Aqua was tired. She usually was these days. Late nights searching for what happened to her ex-partner, early shifts at work, not to mention the rookie she just got. She realized she had gotten behind in her hand-to-hand training. She had gotten into her work out clothes and was working on punching out her anger on a punching bag. She and her old partner used to spar together but Aqua wasn't ready to give all of her traditions and rituals with her old partner to the new guy. The whole thing made her head spin, not to mention all of the other cases she had been working before the new guy got there. Like the La Llorona killer, who had been so silent it left Aqua anxious.

Speed was the only thing going through Shadow's mind. The racetrack was ideally used for testing vehicles for accurate chases, but the black hedgehog used it for a running ground. The cars and bikes were locked up, which meant good reflex testing. His jetted shoes were gliding along the asphalt, the wind rushing over his head and adding some much needed pressure to his mind. He completed one lap. Two. Three. Ten. After about fifty laps, he coasted to a halt to cool the jets. It was at the halt he realized he wasn't alone. Aqua, the blue haired Seelie cop, was doing her own workout

Aqua was breathing heavily by the time she stopped hitting the punching bag. The only thing this work out did for her was make her tired, or more so than she had been. She closed her eyes tightly, trying to will back any form of emotion. Any hint of discomfort or anger was easily picked up by her partner. She didn't hate the guy but was it really time for her to move past what happened with her old partner? She didn't feel ready. She felt like there was something she had to do about it but there was no way she could get a rookie cop in on investigating something the department already declared an open shut case. Her ex-partner was her case and her case alone. Sighing she left the punching bag. Her knuckles were raw and red from how much she had beaten the object. She would have to ice them later. She paused when she noticed someone looking at her.

The red knuckles were what caught Shadow's attention. He was used to the frustration that was being shown by the other cops. Aqua had caught him, and he slightly stiffened. Yes, she was on his unit, but he didn't know her well enough to drop his guard. "Um...I'm turning on the spectre in a bit," he gestured to the console board that would start a round of simulations based on supernatural creatures. The only one Shadow refused to touch was vampire. "Would that be interrupting anything?"

"No," Aqua said. "You can do what you want. I'll leave soon."
She walked over to the bench she had her things on. She sat down, picking up her water bottle to take a drink. She would have to go on a jog to cool down from her 'fight'. She pressed a hand over her eyes. She wasn't sure how much longer she could go on like this. She hadn't even realized she wasn't alone until she practically saw Shadow.

Shadow's reply was a curt nod. He went to the panel and began skimming through the options. Demons he set for the warm up, Unseelies would be a challenge as would Demons, so he grouped them into one working category, and dark magic users...cool down session. "Just so you know," he called out to Aqua as the computer read his registrations, "the blue punching bag has iron pellets in it. Don't want your allergy to upset your workout."

Aqua jolted up. She quickly looked back down at her knuckles. Looking at her hands, she could already see the damage it had done to her skin. Swearing under her breath she quickly uncapped her water bottle and doused some of the water on her towel. She then held it to her knuckles. Already the inflammation started to cool off. Great. Now she was going to have to soak her hands instead of just ice them. She looked over at the punching bag, it was new, yes, but she had thought nothing of it. Most punching bags were filled with sand or wood shavings. But iron pellets explained the pain in her hands.
"When did they change it?" Aqua asked.

"A day ago," Shadow answered. "I was just as surprised as you were. I used it the other day for punching, but something about the weight didn't seem right." He could punch through lose metal, but that didn't mean the weight wasn't unnoticeable. Punching bags filled with iron was meant to increase strength, according to the trainers who had brought it in. The computer dinged, confirming that the program was complete.
Taking a breath, Shadow focused on the simulations being processed. Sentienents made from magic swarmed to create different variants of demons. He narrowed his red eyes, using a skill to teleport between them through blue flashes, appearing to deliver kicks, punches, and even tosses over the shoulder. People often underestimated his strength

"I'll have to talk with the department." she said. "They didn't tell me."
It would have been bad if the leather hadn't separated her knuckles from the pure iron. She probably would have had a trip to the emergency room for sure, even with her healing ability. She sighed and doused her hands with a little more water. The skin had now been colored pink, still obviously irritated. Great. Now she had to baby her hands. This ruined the whole point of a work out.
"Thanks." Aqua said quietly. "For telling me."

The last demon simulation was forced down by a spinning back kick. As it landed, Shadow had the time to address Aqua's gratitude for telling her about the bad bag. "That's what sucks about our department. We're always the last to know these things." He stretched his arm, waiting for the barrage of Unseelies and Demons to attack. "I've been here for ten years, fought every inch of the Black Wars, and I learned that you have to look out for everyone in your squad."

"Yeah well not everyone shares your sentiment." Aqua murmured softly.
She wished they did. A lot could have been prevented for her if someone had just cautioned her about her ex partner or how to treat her new one for that matter. She had royally screwed up on both accounts. Trust no longer came easy for the Seelie Faery and it scared her since distrust was more of an Unseelie trait. Now here she was doubting the integrity of her new partner based on the actions of her old partner. She could feel it again, the disappointment of her old partner. She looked down at her her battered hands, feeling quite miserable. She was Seelie! But here she was making everyone feeling awful and upsetting them.

The simulation turned into the combination of Unseelies and Demons. Shadow held up a finger. "Hold that thought." One demon crept up behind and would have gotte a fair swipe...if not for Shadow ducking out of the way and rolling to one side. He held out a hand and made a throwing motion. When he did, sparks of yellow went flying throughout the field, exploding upon impact and throwing the army off track. The Unseelies were sheidling themselves, but they were stopped by another barrage sent from Shadow throwing more chaos from above. The Unseelie were thrown aside, but the demons were another story.
It would require a lot of Chaos to knock them all down. Shadow clenched his fists, feeling the energy rushing through him alongside adrenaline. As he focused, his entire body went from black to a vibrant red. That bright aura became white, almost blending with the patch of fur on his chest. With a raise of his arms, the red flash coursed forward in a ring, reacting very explosively, but not enough to damage the gym - but what it did do was wipe out the waves of Demons. That simulation was complete, and Shadow could return to talking to Aqua while he waited for the cooldown to load.
"You were Terra's partner, right? We...weren't exactly friends."

Aqua fell silent. Shadow seemed to know what he was doing. She recognized him, simply because of the La Llorona case. It's not like she or Shadow went out of their way to talk to one another otherwise. She had withdrawn from the others on the force after what happened with Terra, trying to give herself some time to recover, but it seemed she needed more time but there wasn't any to be had. She had already mucked things up with her new partner. Her workout session was supposed to help her feel better. Instead, she was just left more bitter and angry than she had been when she started.
"Was." she replied. "I'm... I have Riku, but I'm not sure he's going to want to stay partners with someone like me."

The cool down had n't given a beep of warning, which was good because Shadow was reading Aqua's body language. She sound frustrated. A new partner just after her old one disappeared... It wasn't easy. He remembered the sting to his pride it was when Rouge and Molly partnered and went to establish themselves in New Mexico.
"If you ask me, they put you with a partner too early. But, also keep in mind that Riku's starting out. I remember when Sunshine started out; she was so reluctant to hold a gun, she brought a mini cast iron to suffice," he chucked, which for him was rare. But any thought of Sunshine made him happy

"I didn't have a choice. It was either that or not go out into the field for a couple months." Aqua said. "Maybe I should have just taken the desk work. Riku would have been better off with a different partner."
She looked down at her pink tinted hands. Now it looked like she had just gotten over a sunburn. Having a new partner and her old one leaving, it left Aqua in a state of constant confusion. She didn't know what she was supposed to feel, or what she was supposed to do. She was afraid to act, to mess up again and miss something that told her that her partner wasn't to be trusted but at the same time she didn't want to be so cautious and so afraid of her new partner. He hadn't done anything wrong.
