Yang sighed as she threw yet another pebble over the bridge that lay across the riverfront. It skipped twice across the water before falling below the surface. She was trying not to let it get to her, but if she was honest with herself, she would admit that Pitch was still on her mind. She knew that if he hadn't felt like letting her go, she'd be in the slammer. And then, what would happen to her kids? Plus, it still boggled her mind that Pitch had spared her in the first place. For some reason, he had decided to let her go once she told him about the kids he was looking after. Had he just felt sorry for her? Or was there more to it? She didn't know, and she didn't exactly want to find him and ask him. She got a sour taste in her mouth anytime she thought about him. Yang was a sore loser, and Pitch catching her was him beating her at her own game, in her opinion. She gave another sigh, hating that she was getting so worked up over this. She should just let the issue go and focus on providing for her kids, just like she always did. But that was easier said than done.

Moses was enjoying the day ,it was a good day. Not too hot, not too cold, it was great. He was eating some of the extra, slightly stale food that the cafe had no use for. The apple fritters were to absolutely die for. He paused when he saw a familiar blond, but not acting like her familiar self. He jogged over and offered her one of the uneaten fritters. Hey Yang. Why the long face there? You okay?” He asked gently.

Yang was brought out of her thoughts when a familiar voice addressed her. She turned to see that it was an old friend of hers. "Oh, hey Moses," she said. She glanced down to see that he was offering her a fritter. She took one, nibbling on it absentmindedly as Moses asked if she was okay. "Oh, I'm fine. Just...hit a rough patch, I guess," she replied. She didn't even bother trying to pretend that everything was alright. Moses had lived on the streets too, once upon a time. The shared experience had kind of brought them close together. "But, it's nothing I can't handle," she added, not wanting Moses to worry about her too much. He had his own demons to handle, sometimes literally.

He leaned against the railing and looked at her with some concern. She didn't just hit rough patches. It wasn't like Yang at all. "You wanna talk about it? Sometimes it helps having someone to talk to" Maybe he could offer her some advice or something to lift her spirits. It was the least he could do. She had been a good friend for years and he wanted to return some of the favors he felt he owed her. What better way than by giving good advice? Ad who knew? Maybe she'd follow it.

"It's nothing," Yang replied, shaking her head. "It was just something stupid he did...or I did...I don't even know." She gave a sigh. "It's complicated." She wasn't even sure what Moses would think. He was an informant for the BPD after all. Sure, he had once been on the streets too, but she wasn't sure how much he would sympathize with how cocky she had been. She had been lectured about that many times in the past, sometimes by him, sometimes by other friends. And it wasn't one she liked to hear.

"Stupid who did? Look if it's bothering you this much it's got to be something you should talk about" Moses said with a mix of concern and annoyance. Just like Yang to suppress what was bothering her and hide her true feelings but here she was feeling low and he wasn't someone who just abandoned a friend when they weren't feeling very good. "Just talk to me, Yang. Maybe I can offer some advice or something"

Moses wasn't about to let the subject drop. It looked like Yang had to spill the beans. "Okay. So, I was at one of those underground fighting rings, you know? Things were going fine, but then this guy...he just shows up with all these cops, saying he's a member of the BPD and that we're all under arrest, blah, blah, blah. Of course, I'm not going to just sit there and take it. I throw a few punches, but the guy...I think he was a demon or something. I don't know. Anyway, I don't want to mess with him, so I take off, he's coming after me, he gets me cornered and everything. I thought he was gonna haul me off to jail. But when I mention that I have kids to look after, he just...I don't know. He decides to change his mind and he lets me go." She sighed. "I just don't understand why he did it. I'm not some sad little girl that needs to be pitied. I didn't mean to mention my kids, it just...kind of came out." She bit her lip as she glanced at Moses. She had no idea what he was going to think of all this.

"A demon? By any chance was his name Pitch Black?" Moses smiled slightly. "He's been helping me out quite a bit. I'm not surprised he let you go on the account of the kids. He gave me his card to call him if I ever needed help" In Moses' mind it made perfect sense that Pitch would do something like that. He patted her on the shoulder. "I doubt he saw you as weak. Just somebody who needed a break. We all do from time to time, it doesn't make us weak.

"I don't know, he didn't give a name," Yang replied. "Can this Pitch guy make horses out of dark sand?" A few of those had been sent after her, and they had not been fun to deal with. Odds were though, the demon guy who had let her go was Pitch. And, it seemed that Moses was on friendly terms with him. He didn't seem so surprised that Pitch had acted this way. "I wasn't even doing anything that bad," she muttered. "It was underground fighting. It's not like I was robbing a bank or slitting someone's throat."

"Underground fighting is still illegal" He reminded her gently. She seemed to forget that. "I keep saying you should go to an actual, legitimate fighting ring and enter. You'd get more money for it too ,most likely" he really didn't know but he wanted to keep his friend safe, somehow. "I don't really know what he can and cannot due, but I wouldn't be surprised if summoning lesser creatures was part of his shtick. Some demons can do that" The really powerful ones, usually.

"And what are the odds of said fighting rings letting a seventeen year old girl in?" Yang asked. "Everything's so closed off when you're not legally an adult." It frustrated Yang to no end. She did more than most adults around here. So what if she was still technically a teenager? She gave a sigh. She knew Moses was just looking out for her, like all of her friends did. They all tended to get worried about her when they heard some of the crazy shenanigans she got into. For Yang though, that was just part of life. She rolled with the punches, sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively. "How do you know him so well anyway?" she asked. "Is it cause of whatever he's helping you with?" Did it have to do with Moses's demon problems? Pitch probably was the perfect person to help with that, seeing as how he was a demon himself.

"If you can prove you can fight, I've heard of the demon run ones letting in exceptions" Moses said, and sighed. "But I would rather you take care of yourself more. You're not a full phoenix, you can't regenerate from ashes if you die. What if something happens to you and you leave behind your kids? you should get a legitimate job. You know I can vouch for you at any number of places where you could get a steady pay and stuff" Moses smiled slightly and shrugged. "You could say it's something like that" He stated vaguely. He didn't feel like going into full detail, he didn't want Yang to worry.

"Oh come on, it's not like I'm a fragile little doll," Yang said. "Besides, I gotta live a little, you know?" She gave a grin, trying to lighten the mood. Serious talk was good and all, but she could only handle it for so long. Then again, Moses was a pretty serious guy. He worried about her, like most of her friends did. Yang just felt like it was difficult to get some kind of job legally when you didn't have an address. Or a bank account. But maybe doing some legal work would be good, even if it was just to please her friends. Besides, after her run-in with Pitch, she wasn't in a hurry to try underground fighting again. Moses's answer was vague, but Yang didn't press him for details. His demon problems were murky business. She didn't know a whole lot about it, only that it made life suck for him sometimes. "Well, you know me and my love of helping others," she said. "I've always got a free shoulder to cry on." Even if she was reluctant to accept help from people, Yang did try to help her friends. She wanted to be there for Moses if he needed help in some way.

“You might not be a fragile doll, but even the hardiest dolls can be broken” Moses pointed out, remembering when he was small and his mother was alive there was a girl he knew that had had a plastic doll. She had thrown it against walls, dragged it through mud, among other things, and the doll had come out alright. But then a car ran it over and the head had come off and the plastic became irreparably cracked and shattered. He knew in Yang’s current lifestyle there was going to be a car, and she wasn’t going to bounce back from the impact like she usually did. “I just worry about you, Yang” he sighed and leaned against the railing of the bridge and looked up at the sky, his long black hair brushing his shoulderblades. “Thanks Yang. I’ll remember to come to you if there’s any normal, non-demon related thing I can’t handle on my own” He said honestly.

"I know." Yang really did understand what Moses was getting at. She just wasn't ready to settle down yet. The idea of getting a house, a job, getting married, it was everything she didn't want right now. She had what she needed. She had her kids, good friends, a roof over her head, enough money most of the time. She was free. She could do anything she wanted. Who wouldn't want a life like that? That was what she kept telling herself. She gave a little laugh. "So, what normal, non-demon related things have you been up to lately?" she asked. "I assume they're not quite as hair-raising as the shenanigans I've gotten into."
