Out of all things, Yang thought maybe some beignets would make her feel better. But, as soon as she trotted out of the bakery with the sweet treats in tow, she knew that they weren't going to distract her from what was going on inside her head. Ever since her encounter with Thrax, she had been jumpy, nervous. She hadn't talked about exactly what she had seen, but her friends all figured it was something terrible. Apparently, she had screamed nearly at the top of her lungs. It made her ashamed, that she had acted so vulnerable, and had been duped so easily. She had barely been a challenge for Thrax. If she wasn't a good fighter, then what was she? She sighed as she leaned against the railing that looked over the Antoinette River. However, the sight of the water made her heartbeat quicken and she quickly turned around.

A large figure clad in overalls suddenly loomed right in front of Yang as she turned around into the walkway.
"Hey, watch it!"
Ralph only just stopped himself from slamming his massive bulk into the woman who had stepped in front of him, managing to keep his grip somehow on the cup of coffee in one hand and a large beignet in another. He had just come from the Café du Monde after a long night of following leads in Aqua's case on Terrance and wasn't in the best mood from lack of sleep.
He took a step back and steadied his cup of still steaming coffee before shooting a somewhat annoyed look at the woman. However, the look turned from one of annoyance to thoughtfulness as he took in the blonde-haired figure before him. He didn't know the woman, but nonetheless he felt like he had seen her somewhere before.

Yang hadn't even realized that she had nearly run into someone until a loud voice addressed her. She looked up to see a rather huge man in front of her. He was definitely a giant of sorts. No human could possibly be that big. "S-sorry," she managed to spit out. She was still trying to get her mind away from the ball and Thrax and the river that was nearby. The giant seemed annoyed with her at first, but the look he was giving her softened after a moment, and she wasn't sure why. Did he know her?

Ralph was trying to answer that question for himself. Even though he could tell he didn't know this woman, part of him was completely certain that he had at the very least seen her before. And recently too.
He stared down at her for a few more moments but still couldn't place her face and finally decided to just be up front and ask.
"Do I know you from somewhere?"

"I...don't think so," Yang replied. "I haven't talked with any giants recently." There was the possibility that maybe he had seen her in an underground fight, but she wasn't about to bring that up. There was also the ball, where according to Sunshine, she had dropped in from the ceiling with Thrax and Adeline, out cold. She didn't exactly want to bring that up either. Not only had the whole thing nearly made her panic, she felt ashamed that she had practically become a damsel in distress. She was Yang Xiao Long. She wasn't supposed to need saving.

"Really?"
Ralph was starting to think he had merely made a mistake and he might as well leave before this became more awkward then it already was. However, a sudden flash of memory from not so long ago came to him in a moment of realization and he recognized where he had seen this woman before.
"Wait, you were at the Lafayette Ball, right?"

"Well, yeah, but who wasn't?" Yang said. "Nearly everyone in the city was stuffed into that place." She tried to sound casual about it, but whoever this guy was seemed to remember her. She didn't necessarily remember him, although that might have been because she was so out of it for a while. Things were a little fuzzy after she had woken up, and most her attention had been on the fight between Thrax and whoever had been able and willing to fight him. The guy had managed to escape though, which made Yang nervous. Who knew what a crazy demon like that would do next?

"Well SORRY for trying to start a friendly conversation."
Ralph shot another annoyed look at the woman, misinterpreting her attempt but failure at a casual tone as sarcasm. He took a large bite out of the beignet in his hand and started to walk away from the blonde. He was already tired and short on temper and the last thing he needed was some stranger with attitude talking back at him when he was just trying to talk to them.

"What? What did I say?" Yang completely missed the fact that her earlier statement might have come off as a bit sarcastic. She sighed as the giant started to walk away. What was his problem? "Okay, okay, I was there," she said, decided to just give him a straight answer. "You might remember me as one of the people who fell from the ceiling in the middle of the party." She had a feeling that was what the giant recognized her from. Falling from a ceiling did tend to get you noticed. True, Thrax had gotten the most attention since he had started attacking people immediately afterwards, but still. Yang figured that quite a lot of people had noticed her and Adeline falling down with him.

Ralph suddenly came to a stop midstride when he heard the woman suddenly speak to him, answering his question from before. He was in such a bad mood that normally he would have kept walking even when she began to speak, but then she mentioned how she was one of the people who had fallen through the ceiling.
That wasn't something you forgot quickly.
He turned around to face her once more and nodded slowly. Yes, he remembered now.
"So, you were up there with the demon....weren't you?"
Ralph's tone was deadly serious as his brown eyes fixed on the purple gaze of the blonde.

That seemed to stop the giant in his tracks. But the look he gave her...Yang wasn't sure how she felt about it. Was it sympathy? Concern? Sure, a lot of her friends had been worried about what had happened, but she had tried to assure them that it wasn't that bad. In retrospect, she felt like it wasn't. She hadn't gotten tossed around a whole lot. She had just gotten a couple of bruises. But the things Thrax had made her see...that was what had hurt her the most. "Yeah," she replied, hugging her arms around her chest. "He was hurting someone. I tried to stop him. It didn't really work."

"I'm not surprised. Not when it comes to creatures like those."
The expression on Ralph's face flickered for a moment and was filled with a truly startling emotion. Hatred, pure and unfiltered hatred. The look lasted for only a brief moment and yet it transformed his face into something truly frightening.
"Demons, even the weakest of their kind, will do whatever it takes to get what they want, pull whatever dirty and underhanded trick they can to save themselves. Trust me, I've had experience dealing with demons too."
Even though the woman hadn't said what had happened, the Giant knew enough about demons to know that whatever this one had done to her was vile and horrid.

Yang was surprised to hear that this guy had experience with demons too. Not many people encountered them on a regular basis, unless they were on the police force. But it didn't look like this guy was a cop. "Are you a demon hunter or something?" she asked. True, the occupation was more popular in the old days, but you could still spot a few of them running around this city. Their main job was to kill any demon that posed a threat to other people's lives.

"You could call me that, I guess."
The blonde's question mildly surprised him but he came to the conclusion quickly that he might as well be considered a 'demon hunter.' After all, he'd had to track down and arrest many of the creatures before and bring them to justice for crimes they had committed. And while he didn't get too many cases that involved demons anymore, he knew exactly how to handle them and wasn't afraid to take one down if the opportunity arose.
"I've dealt with enough of them to know that they aren't like humans or Others."

"You got that right," Yang agreed. Demons were something that she couldn't understand, or have any hope of defeating. Vanitas had been able to easily take advantage of her when she was younger, Pitch had caught her with ease, and Thrax had tossed her around like a rag doll. It seemed like any encounter with a demon was bound to spell out bad luck for her. "So, what's your name Mr. Demon Hunter?" she asked. "Mine's Yang."
