"Why?" Aqua asked.
Why indeed? Weiss was Riku's little sister and Riku was her partner. She'd obviously want her partner to be happy and in extension his family. Weiss had almost been murdered in front of the faery by a demon no less. The girl deserved some sort of compensation to Aqua's delayed reaction at the ball. Then there was also Aqua's Seelie nature might have been in some influence. Her 'sixth' sense that screamed that Weiss needed something magical to alter the scales of karma. The likeness between the three of them was also a fine indicator. Riku being ostracized from his family - Aqua losing hers. Or Weiss feeling alone and Aqua knowing the same pain from her childhood and in extension her adulthood. Also, Aqua herself knew she just hated seeing someone upsets, especially when there was something she could do about it.
"Do I really need a reason?" she asked. "I upset you. I didn't mean to but I did so I should fix it."

Weiss sighed. It looked like Aqua wasn't going to give up on her, no matter how much she yelled and shouted. She wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Getting involved with LaFayette family drama might turn out bad, especially if Aqua was pushing for Weiss and Riku to reconcile with each other. Her parents wouldn't be a fan of that. But, if Aqua wanted to do it, then Weiss wasn't going to stop her. "Okay," she said, brushing a strand of hair out of her face. Totally trusting Aqua was going to take a while, but if Weiss could at least make a few baby steps in that direction, then at least some progress would be made.

It could have gone worse, Aqua told herself. Weiss could have completely lashed out, screaming and creating a ruckus. It was a reluctant sort of truce between the two of them, but Aqua would happily take it. After all, you won more flies with honey rather than vinegar. If she lashed out and had been equally nasty to Weiss, then she was likely to have come to odds between Weiss and Riku. She would avoid that if at all possible.
"So would you laugh if I said Riku almost cried when I gave him his badge?" she asked, trying to take Weiss' mind off things a little.

"Seriously?" That kind of surprised Weiss. Riku had always been kind of a serious guy. Part of that was due to their upbringing, but Weiss felt like it was part of his personality too. The idea of him getting that emotional was almost foreign to her. She couldn't remember the last time she had seen him cry.

"Almost." Aqua said. "Heck he might have cried after I left, but he was at least misty eyed when he got it."
Aqua had thought the whole thing sweet, perhaps it would help Weiss realize that her brother wasn't the perfect entity her family thought he was and actually human. Ironic that a faery - a non-human being - was moralizing humanity. And Riku was a sweet guy. Maybe if she hadn't had all those problems with Terra, she would have been better friends with Riku. But that was focusing on what ifs. She was trying as hard as she could to put more trust in him, but it was hard when her automatic reaction was to shy away from contact from anyone out of the fear that she would end up getting her heart broken again. Faeries could die that way.

"Oh." Weiss wasn't sure what to think about that. It kind of drove the point home, that this was that Riku wanted to do and that it made him happier. But she still couldn't help wondering selfishly why he deserved to be happy and she didn't. Sure, he got the job he wanted, but now she was alone. Was that really fair?

"We went to celebrate at this diner my old partner and I used to go to," Aqua said. "And... Hey, Riku had never had a milkshake before. Does that mean you haven't either?"
Riku hadn't said it but it seemed his life was sheltered. His parents had 'given' him everything and when he refused to comply with what they wanted, they cut him off. He chose the hard route, deciding to make his own way, rather than grovel at their feet for forgiveness. He stuck to his guns. It might have actually have been a little funny to see the prim and proper Weiss in that little greasy spoon of a diner. She would certainly stick out at the mom and pop restaurant like a sore thumb. But the food and her reaction might just be worth it.
"Maybe next time all three of us could go," she suggested. "Get you to see a bit of the other side of the city."

Weiss shook her head. "Not really. We tended to go for...fancier stuff." If the kids wanted a special drink, sparkling cider was what they could hope for the most. If their parents were in a good mood, they sometimes let Weiss have a little bit of champagne at special events. Milkshakes sounded kind of unhealthy, what-with all the ice cream and all. "Maybe," was all Weiss could say in reply. She wasn't sure what Riku would think if she suddenly showed up to go to a diner with him and Aqua. They hadn't really taken any steps towards a reconciliation yet. And there was still a part of Weiss that was really angry with him.

"That's no fun." Aqua mused.
Some of her best memories had been when she was a little girl, sharing milkshakes, ice cream and hot chocolates with her parents. The three of them together... It had just been better times. Terra had made things okay for a while until what happened. Recovery was a slow road. It was hard enough to partner up with Riku but she was putting herself out there - literally ripping the bandages off instantly in order to speed up the process. Just being near Weiss hurt. Being near Riku hurt more because he was literally 'Terra's Replacement' as the office put it. It was obvious to see that Weiss and Riku were both upset too, Weiss more so, and Aqua was just helpless at this point.
"What was Riku like before he left home?" she asked.

"Fun wasn't that important at my place," Weiss said. Sure, her parents gave her anything she wanted, but when it came down to it, becoming a proper young lady was what they wanted most. And for the LaFayettes, that also included learning voodoo. Becoming the next voodoo queen was still on Weiss's mind, but it had been put on the back burner ever since Thrax showed up. Finding out more info about him was her priority now, even if it was foolish to think that a teenage girl could stand a chance against a demon like him. But Weiss never backed down from a challenge, and this was one she was determined to succeed in. "He was...nice," she said. "He was always there for me. We knew we could trust each other, no matter what. Being in the upper class, it's...hard to know who wants to be your friend and who just wants your status." It was part of the reason why Weiss had a hard time trusting people. There had been more than a few instances of people just using her for her money, and she was determined not to trust people like that again. Sure, she might be acquaintances with them and could be polite to them. But trusting them entirely? No way.

"Of course fun is important." The Faery lectured. "Humans always fail to see that until they're old and full of regrets."
As a Faery she had an extended life, near immortal-like if she played her cards right. A long lifespan aside too many people these days rushed through things. Too eager to be done with it than take the time to smell the roses as they said. But the more Weiss spoke the more Aqua realized how hard the heiress really had it. Their lifestyle sounded so lonely. Aqua could relate but it was something else entirely to be alone in a crowded room. It wasn't a healthy environment for anyone.
"Okay. So you and Riku need more fun. Got it."
Trust would come later.

Aqua seemed a little steamed that fun hadn't been a big thing in Weiss and Riku's childhoods. Weiss just felt like that was how things were always going to be, so why try to change it? Any playtime when she was younger had been spent on her own, or with her brother. Her parents had never really played with her, or did fun stuff with her that other parents seemed to do with their kids, like go to a playground or a swimming pool. She gave a little laugh at Aqua's affirmation that she and Riku need more fun. "Have fun with that. He can be...serious sometimes." Riku was like that often, around people he didn't really know.

"I guess... he and I have that in common," she mused quietly.
It was more an observation to herself than to Weiss. Aqua was slowly coming to terms with the fact she had basically shut down her life because of Terra. She was starting to reach out, try to make up for the things she had missed when she had been in her own little world for the last eight or so months. It would do them both some good to get out and see the world. Aqua's life had all but stopped for Terra. Riku hadn't been allowed to experience the simple things of life because of how his parents were. Same could be said for Weiss. Aqua wasn't sure which situation was worse. Her choosing to stop her life or Riku and Weiss never being allowed to.
"You laugh now," she said. "But I think we can get you really laughing!"

Weiss found that a little hard to believe. Aqua wasn't gut-wrenching funny, but she was pretty nice. She didn't seem the serious type too much. Although, now that she mentioned it, she did seem to look it when she was thinking about something. Riku could get like that too, just lost in his own thoughts. Weiss remembered him acting like that a lot before he had announced his plans to join the police. She had realized then just what had been on his mind. Aqua seemed happy that she had gotten Weiss to laugh, but she was also determined to do it more often. "If you say so," was all Weiss said in reply. She wasn't sure what Aqua could do to get her to laugh, but she wasn't about to stop her from trying.

"You just challenged a faery to make you happy," she informed Weiss.
That was something Aqua was good at. The only thing she was good at apparently. Little good luck spell, one happy act of kindness and a person's whole day would be turned around. It wouldn't be so simple with Weiss and Riku. Nothing ever was when it came to people she actually knew. They were far more complicated than some homeless man she gave a good luck spell to or some young mom she had found a babysitter for so the woman could go out and enjoy a night alone. This would take some deep thinking and she would have to see about what she could do to help Riku without him thinking she was nosing into his personal life.
