From where he was, he glanced over to the room he had set up for his ‘guests’. Both of his victims were out cold. He had just been trying to take the blonde, someone from the BPD that would get under their skin if she was missing. They would only notice when they needed her. It was supposed to be quick and easy, but things never were. The brunette (someone he later realized was Omar LaRue’s daughter) tried to intervene. That had been a bit of a mess. The blonde had even dropped her sketch pad. It was probably being trodden on by uncaring passerbys, wet and ink stained from partially sitting in a puddle. One image sat atop the ruined pages, one of a demon with striking yellow eyes.
Vanitas sighed. Of course things would never go as he wanted. But having the LaRue girl was icing on the cake, especially since it seemed Omar was fond of both girls. He smirked and picked up Jane’s cell phone. He scrolled through her list of contacts before he found ‘dad’. Well, there was no going back now. He had to finish this. He hit dial and raised the phone to his ear. He could just hear Omar’s voice, happy and warm until he realized that it wasn’t his daughter on the other line. Served him right. That stupid troll… It was his fault. Everything was going smoothly until he and that stupid officer got involved.

Omar sat tuning his guitar. He'd been in a much happier mood since his daughter came back to him. Things were finally looking up and he was absolutely happy with that. His music had been moderately quieter since the return of Jane. Omar hummed a quiet tune as he tuned his guitar. Something old and soft, something he used to sing to his kids. Something he remembered his mother had sung to him. He looked up when his phone rang and put his guitar to go get it. His band members had recently insisted he get an iphone and actually put numbers in it. One of the only numbers in it was Jane's number. And it was her picture that was showing as he picked up the phone. He smiled gently, happily and answered the phone. "Hey Janie baby. It's been a while"

"Not quite." Vanitas responded.
He turned back to face the two unconscious girls. Sooner or later one of them would wake up to make some noise. Probably that Halfling girl. She had a lot of fight in her. The little blonde had nearly fainted upon seeing him. She would be easier to control out of the two. The brunette was going to be a hassle. He was pacing, anxious. This had to work. This was his only chance of staying out of jail. Threatening the police to hand over the records they had on him... Get out of town. Should have done it a long time ago. Sentiment and hatred only kept him in the city that had hurt him so much.
"I have something of yours," he said. "Two somethings, actually. Or should I say someones?"

Omar's smile turned into a frown. The voice sounded familiar but he couldn't quite place it, just that the voice made him uneasy and angry. His insides turned cold and he wrapped an arm around his middle and bent over from sudden fear and mental anguish. Jane, Jane and someone else he cared about. Something bad had happened to them, to her, his Jane. He swallowed, mouth feeling suddenly dry and gripped the phone more tightly. "Where are they? Where is my Jane? Who are you and what have you done?"

"Just your Jane?" Vanitas asked and then about the 'other' added. "Oh she'll be so crushed to hear it. Actually I'm a little crushed myself. After all, you're the moron who got me arrested."
He looked over at the little blonde. The tiny thing was lying on the cold floor, tied up nice and good so she couldn't get away, same as Jane. Though the ropes on Jane might have been a bit tighter because she was inevitably going to wake up and going to cause a racket. Even now, he could see her brow twitching, fighting against the spell he had used to subdue them both. He was finally getting back at Omar for everything he had done, everything he had caused. All of his hard work, all of his careful planning unraveled because some troll got in his way. It pissed him off.
Good news was, he hadn't killed either girl. Yet.

She ,she...who else...something in his brain clicked and he sank to his knees. "Namine?" he asked, in a small and frightened voice. "You have Namine too?" his little girls, his dear girls... Omar sucked in a deep breath and thought hard about who could have kidnapped his girls. He had his fair share of immortal enemies, but this didn't sound like any of them, and he'd only gotten two of his immortal enemies in jail, and that was a few centuries ago, at the very least. So who else? He tried to think...recently there had been one arrest, him and some punk kid demon, but that had been inconsequential. Though now that he thought about it, it would make sense. He grit his teeth. Now he remembered, and he was pissed. "Vanitas, you do anything to harm my girls and I'll throttle you till your neck breaks" he promised through clenched teeth, his hand holding the phone so tightly it was a wonder the thing hadn't broken.

"She mustn't mean much to you if it took you this long to figure out. Her real father wasn't too fond of her either. W-Why d-do you think she s-stammers so much?" Vanitas asked with a mockery of her stutter.
Vanitas did his digging on little Namine. She had been his true target after all. To piss off the BPD but he had seen the meek girl with Omar after they were arrested and decided she would suffer too. But in his digging on the shy artist he only found a broken little girl with daddy issues since it appeared the man had liked the drink too much. He in turn took his angers out on the girl, turning her into the quivering mess of nerves that lived in the shell of a girl. Vanitas might have felt pity on her if he actually could feel something like that.
"You come near me and you won't see either of them again." He replied coolly. "This really is your fault after all."
Namine was still out cold, but Jane had woken up. The brunette was horrified to find that one, she was not alone and two, that they were tied up. Her hands were bound, as were her feet. She quickly checked the door and spared a glance to the window which was so far overhead that the only way she would be able to get out was if she stood on something. She tried twisting in her spot in absolute fury, trying to loosen her bonds. "Let us out of here!" Jane shouted.

Omar swallowed a lump in his throat. He hadn't known. And now he felt bad. "No, no I just...haven't seen her in forever" He said quickly and winced. He sounded like he was making excuses. "I care about Namine a lot" Omar squeezed his eyes shut and grit his teeth angrily. He slammed his fist into the floor. He felt helpless! and feeling helpless was something he hated feeling. He'd felt enough of that during his first few centuries of life. "How. How is this my fault?!" he roared out in exasperated anger. "We were arrested together for a bar fight! That doesn't matter in the long run! How come you're blaming me for...." he didn't know what Vanitas had gone through, but obviously it hadn't been fun, if he was lashing out like this. "For whatever happened to you?" he settled on. He heard someone shouting in the background and his heart stopped. He couldn't lose his daughter again. Not like this. "Vanitas you let them go" he said desperately. "Let them go and I'll come instead. Do whatever you want to me but leave the girls alone"

"Sure you do." Vanitas replied sarcastically. "You care so much that little Janie was the first one to come to your mind. You couldn't even remember little Namine."
He rolled his eyes as Omar tried to deny any involvement. That he hadn't messed things up for Vanitas. The demon had been so close to making the entire city feel as helpless as he had and now, everything was ruined. All of his plots, all of his schemes, all of his plans, for nothing. He might as well as have just turned himself over to the police right then and there. But no. Namine and Jane were his bartering chips.
"How about no?" Vanitas said. "It's so much more satisfying listening to you beg for their lives."
And it was. Omar was all but near tears for the lives of these pathetic girls. Too bad Vanitas wasn't there to see the anguish on his face, knowing there was nothing he could do to save them. Because at the end of the night, Vanitas knew it was going to be the girls or him. He knew which situation he favored and which one he was going to try to swing towards. Two more lives meant nothing. Just like Terra meant nothing. Just like the two strangers who attacked Moses meant nothing. They were just bodies.
"You freak!" Jane hissed. "You'll never get away with this!"

"Jane's my daughter!" Omar hissed back. "Of course I think of my daughter first, especially when a practical stranger is using her phone!" He felt bad about not thinking of Namine first, he really did, but he'd lost Jane before and there was no way he was losing her now. Omar growled softly and slammed his fist into his floor again. He felt so helpless! "Listen to me you spiky haired child" his voice rumbled with old power, gifts from Unseelie masters. "You will give me back my girls by the end of the night or so help me I'll hunt you down through the centuries and rip away everything you come to care for, do you understand me? Nobody messes with my family. Not ever again" he'd lost his Cindy and his son. He'd lost many more before. He was done losing people.

"Yeah, yeah, heard that once, I’ve heard it a thousand times." Vanitas replied. "It's not that scary."
Namine’s brow furrowed in confusion. Her head ached something fierce. She felt stiff. Carefully she cracked open an eye. Horror struck her like a ton of bricks. Immediately, she wished she hadn’t opened her eyes at all. Played dead or something. A terrified little yelp left her lips, which she hastily tried to muffle with her bound hands. Her frantic eyes darted between Jane and Vanitas. Her back was already to the wall so there was nowhere for her to go to escape from either of them. However, her mind was purely in flight mode. It always was.
"Oh, one moment. I have to take care of something," Vanitas told Omar.
He put the phone down and stalked closer to the cowering blonde. Namine looked faint at the mere sight of Vanitas. Quivering and quaking where she sat, curling in on herself. He knelt down. His hand reached out and grabbed Namine’s face. She whimpered, struggling to get away from him. Jane was on the other side of the room. Her eyes widened. She tried to scoot over to Namine’s side, get the smaller girl away from the demon but there was only so far she could go when she was bound.
"What are you doing?" Jane demanded. "Leave her alone!"
Namine was struck soundly across the face with the back of Vanitas’ hand. She was knocked to the floor by the sheer impact. The demon sneered before dusting off his hand and picked up the phone again. Namine lay on the floor, trying to move and make as little noise as possible, falling back into the same role of when she was in her father’s home. It had been all too easy to subdue the blonde.
"Sorry about that." He said with false sincerity. "I'm back now. What were you saying?"

Omar ground his teeth and smiled. "Oh, you've never heard it from a troll. When we say we'll take away everything you love, we bloody well mean it. I might just indulge in eating their flesh, like my ancestors before me" somewhat of an empty threat. He'd never been interested in eating humans or humanoids after living so long with the species and being raised by humans. Omar heard the slap and thud and his eyes widened in horror. Was it Namine? there was no shouting like Jane would have done so it must have been Namine. He began shaking. "Vanitas just let them go" he said hoarsely. "Why torture two innocent girls when you're really mad at me?"

"Except I don't have anything you could take away." Vanitas said.
He didn't have loved ones. He didn't have riches. He didn't have fame. He had nothing to his name except for the shirt off his back. The police were already closing in on his freedom, which Vanitas was going to buy back by threatening them. Or rather threatening his hostages. He had only called Omar to rub salt in the wound. Make him realize just how worthless he was. Make him realize just how pathetic he was. He smirked over at the two women. Jane had managed to scoot her way over to Namine and had helped the little blonde into a sitting position. Jane was glaring at him with such intensity that it almost made Vanitas laugh. She was cradling the smaller girl close.
"Don't you realize, this is torturing you," Vanitas pointed out. "I can hurt them as much as I want and all you can do is listen."

"Not now, maybe. But I'm sure if I started looking sooner or later I'd find something or someone you'd kill for" Omar said quietly. "And then I'd take the object of your intensity away and leave you with nothing. Do not underestimate an Unseelie aligned troll" he'd learned several tricks from his master Black Jack Davie. He was willing to use them all to get to Vanitas. Omar grit his teeth again. Yes, Vanitas had a point. This was torturing the troll. There was nothing he could do and nobody he could talk to. Well...nobody he was willing to talk to, anyway. If he had to he'd bite the bullet and once more ask the police for help in finding his daughter. Hopefully this time they'd do their jobs and find her and Namine instead of give him half answers in an attempt to placate him.

"Blah. Blah. Blah. Do you even hear yourself talk?" Vanitas groaned. "It's all the same."
Vanitas had no reason to be scared. He was fairly certain he couldn't feel that emotion at all. But Namine and Jane could. He could always hang up on Omar. Leave him in horrible agony. Wondering what happened to his precious daughter and the little mouse he had taken to protecting. Even now he could hear Namine's soft whimpers and Jane trying to console the near crying girl. The crying was getting on his nerves. Maybe he should separate the two women. It would make things harder to control, but they wouldn't be able to comfort each other.
