Guilt built up in Sunshine watching Aqua cry. She had known her and Terra were partners, but she never knew Aqua cared for him that much. She could see every raw bit of pain in those tears. She handed over her napkin, her heart grinding to a slow sad beat for her fellow officer. If Shadow taught her well, it was that a team had to be there for everyone.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you upset."
Maybe much like how Shadow didn't mean to blow up the offices. Deep down. So Sunshine hoped.

"I-"
She touched her face. Her cheeks were dry. Not crying, but definitely misty eyed. She swallowed thickly and dabbed her eyes with the napkin that Sunshine gave her. She had told herself not to cry anymore. That it wasn't worth the tears and yet there she was getting teary eyed over a guy who had left her. Typical. She took a deep breath, willing the anger and the sadness back. She wasn't helping Sunshine by being a blubbering mess over some guy. Not when Sunshine's problems were real and right there. Terra made his choice. Aqua just had to choose to let him go. Easier said than don, but she couldn't let this consume her life.
"I'm being ridiculous." she muttered. "It's just been a hell of a week too."

Sunshine swallowed a lump filling up in her throat. It was strange, talking about boys this way. The only boy Sunshine had any real feelings for at this point was Riku, who was now a giant rabbit. But because she was the one who activated the curse, she felt terrified. The good news was Aqua wasn't berating her or nagging her about turning her partner into a fluffball.
"Tell me about it," Sunshine sighed. "I just remember all of us eating, I kid you not I counted, five bags of chips just to plan the perfect trap."

Aqua tried to smile but it felt like a grimace. She wasn't like Sunshine and the others. She didn't stress eat. Aqua ate like a bird during this whole ordeal and she wasn't entirely hungry now. But work. Aqua could talk about work just fine. It was when people brought up Terra that thing normally went downhill for the fae. Her resolve on the matter had long since broken and she was still trying to learn how to live without the partner she had literally trusted with her life.
"The trap for Vanitas? Or Grey Dawn?" Aqua guessed. "It was... a weird situation. I'm almost expecting something to happen. That was too easy."

"Both," Sunshine answered. She dusted her palms, which were beginning to sweat from just thinking about the planning that had been going on. It had all been done behind closed doors, and people would constantly go in and out. Aqua's grotestque grin said more about it, which left Sunshine wondering if sitting down and talking about this was too much. "I don't want to to think about something happening. The more I think about it, the more stressed I become. I just got my hair to grow back, I don't need it to fall out," she stroked a strand of her blonde locks protectively.

"I doubt that would happen," Aqua laughed. "I think your magic would protect you from it. It's why faeries live so long. The queen of the Seelie Court is reaching her thousandth birthday this year. She barely looks a day over forty."
Titania was a fair and just queen. Long lived. She had kept her people away from humans up until the black war when things just got out of hand. For a long time, humans thought faeries were just myths, fables, unless they encountered a 'stray' faery, but people seldom ever believed in the stories those humans told after they did. Magic had seemed so unlikely for so long. But magic in humans, had diverse effects. Sunshine's healing abilities were something foreign for Aqua. She had never gifted someone with powers before. She didn't know the 'terms' and 'stipulations' the powers had. It would be fascinating to ask, but also very personal for Sunshine. Every time Aqua would have asked, it was just not the right time.
"You do have magic hair after all." she said. "It can withstand stress."

"Whatever anti aging cream age has, I should buy some for Mom," Sunshine joked. Her hand left the strand she held tightly, and she still smelled the rosemary mint shampoo on her hands. Ever since she was a kid, Wendy had told her to maintaijbits magic. That meant hair care was meant not out of vanity, but as a necessity. Wendy said she'd tell her more when the time was right.
When Aqua mentioned the magic hair, Sunshine laughed audibly. "Yeah, just a hair wrap over an injury, think of the sun when it isn't dawn or dusk, sing a song, boom, you're healed. Alapecia is the least of my concerns. I just...wish it healed more than physical injuries."

"If it even works for humans," Aqua laughed. "Besides, you really wouldn't want to live that long..."
For all Aqua knew, humans would turn green with pointy ears and start running off into the forests. As amusing as that would be, it would be a bad idea. Humans with any sort of magical influence that wasn't there own was a disaster waiting to happen. Humans were horrible when it came to first learning how to use their powers. For some it was unnatural, for others, they possessed such raw talent they were simply incapable of containing such a burst of magic that it caused problems. Longevity was hard to cope with, especially in situations like Aqua's. All of her friends were human. One day, they would pass and she would live on, unless she was killed in duty.
"Do... you know the name of the faery who gave your family those powers?" Aqua asked. "You said it was a Seelie... Maybe there's something in the hall of records. We could see if your gift offered... more?"
Out of all of the humans Aqua knew, Sunshine was just a step away from being Seelie herself. She only lacked the longevity of life and wings. Both easily fixed if the queen deemed it, but Aqua doubted Sunshine was in any mood to change her species. She was perfectly happy as a gifted human, aside from partner stress.

Sunshine's laughter with Aqua wasn't a tinny, fake one. For the longest time, she was hearing herself feel, in lack of a better words, sunny about the faery jokes she and the Seelie were cracking. She had never taken Aqua for that kind of person.
"Yeah, I was never one for the immortality train," she admitted out loud. Why were humans so obsessed with the whole eternal life bullshit anyways? A lot of the crimes the department had studied usually consisted of humans trying to find some ways to giving back or life or extending life. Diet and exercise were the big two things that kept people alive. Gifted humans may have had the side of magic with them, but even they had to eat right and work out. Speaking of working out, Sunshine was wondering her chaffing thighs were coming from eating too much at the holidays.
Aqua then asked who the faery was that saved the Seddons. Her face became thoughful. These were really all questions for Wendy, but one name that stuck out from Sunshine's bedtime stories kept returning to her.
"I think her name was Iridessa," she mused. 'At least, that's what Mom told me."

"Good." Aqua said. "Humans don't realize what a blessing they have. Their lives have so much more meaning because they're so much shorter."
Brief and beautiful. Sunrises and sunsets were a perfect example. Glowing boldly and brightly in the beginning until it tapered off. What was left behind in the wake of them - daylight or the stars was breathtaking. Just when she started to doubt the species, Sunshine came in and was helping to ease her worries, just by being herself. It was good for Aqua to see that there were still good humans out there.
"Iridessa..." Aqua said, trying the name on her tongue. "It's a start. I can see if she left anything behind in the courts. See if there are limitations to what you could do or if... If you can heal more than just injuries."

"You'd do that for us?" A hint of hope was in Sunshine's voice as she looked at her fellow cop.
It was the first time she had heard of a Seelie volunteering to look at the faery claims. Heck, she didn't even know faeries kept tabs on who was with Oberon and Titania or Mab or whoever Shakespeare wrote about; for all she knew now, those could have been completely made up for comedy. She was so out of the loop that she had questions on whether or not faeries were allowed to come and go if they pleased. Aqua had seemed to adapt to the human lifesyle, so did that mean she was in a good in between?
The 'us' she said wasn't just for her family. If Aqua found stuff and their cards were right, it meant a clue to seeing what Sunshine could do besides heal. Maybe, just maybe, it could lead to finding out was going on with Shadow.

"Of course." Aqua said. "I um... I'm taking some time off anyways to go to the courts. I can look while I'm there."
She was actually terrified of going to the courts. She had never been before. All she knew was that the moment she got there, she would be escorted to the Queen of the Seelie court to judge her intent. She wasn't sure what all that entailed, but there had to have been a reason her parents left the court, right? She didn't know. She didn't know what to expect or how she was supposed to act when she was in the court. She hadn't even had faery foods before in her life. What if it had the same effect on her as it did on humas, enchanting her so that she never went back to the human world? Would it be so bad if she stayed?
But if Sunshine was depending on her, it was Aqua's way of giving herself a reason to go back. Riku would be too. If the Queen was able to determine a cure for Riku's sudden fuzzy situation. She liked her partner, but she liked him better when he was himself and not the large rabbit Vanitas turned him into. And why a rabbit? Why not a toad or something? Perhaps because if he were a toad the cure would be obvious. The Frog Prince...

Well, that was...a mixed blessing. After Shadow had destroyed the offices duirng his and Pitch's argument, it meant much more time could be spent for the officers to do what they could. Sunshine could finally get back to her crafts she had been holding off on for so long. When did she start that painting to cover up the vent in her apartment's bathroom? Heck, she needed to find a housewarming gift for Yang. Now, she was sitting with a Seelie over crepe and coffee talking faery politics.
"Well, at least we have time while they...fix up the offices...um, send me a postcard?"
The awkward forced smile was meant to help, but really, Sunshine was just grasping at straws to make herself feel better. Yes, talking with Aqua was helping, but she knew her faery accomplice was still blue....bluer than her hair.
"I really am sorry about what I did....to Riku, I mean. Every time I see you, I keep meaning to apologize. But..." she looked away. "...you're probably tired of people saying that to you."

"I don't think I can do that," Aqua said. "But I can try to bring you back something, if I can."
She was fairly certain the Courts cut themselves off from the human world for a reason. Very few faeries actually ever left. When they did it was either for law breaking or boredom. Some - like her parents - left because they disagreed with how things went. Aqua was a little afraid of where that would place her. If her parents disagreed then what about her? What sort of laws did her parents disagree with to leave the faery society entirely? She doubted the realm was very touristy or human friendly either way.
"Wait, Sunshine, what happened to Riku wasn't your fault. I would have made him see a healer before he started work back up. It would have happened either way!" Aqua protested.
Yes, Riku's fuzzy nature was part of the reason she was going to the Seelie Court for help, but she also felt that she needed to learn more about her own culture. She needed time off after everything that had happened because she was still hurting. Getting help was an added bonus. Supposedly. If the Courts weren't as bad as her parents painted them. She wasn't sure. But she needed to do something to stop this constant pain in her chest whenever someone even mentioned Terra.

Well, apparently her light hearted joke didn't get through. Aqua had taken her joke literally. Why was all of this seeming to blow up in her face? She was supposed to be the 'light' in the office. But ever since the blowup, that light was seeming to fade. The only things that made her happy was working at the bakery like she had before or doing her crafts.
Her head was still cast down, but her ears were open. Aqua was consoling her about the, er, fuzzy incident before the drug ring rendezvous. She sniffed lightly,
"I keep telling myself that, it..." she sighed. "I just feel like I ruined my chances of actually telling him I liked him, you know?"
It was one thing to have a red and black hedgehog as her partner and crime fighting slash best friend, it was another to have a crush on a large rabbit. Anymore large animals and people would think she was a furry. Or maybe not. The Grey Dawn Sapien had been cleaned off the streets...at least, the larger ones. That meant in a month's time, clean Sapien would be on the shelves. Weres could finally use it so no full moons would effect them when it came to having a family. Maybe, just maybe, the clean injection could help Riku. But she couldn't give that idea to Aqua, not with the sadness in her eyes clearly connected to Terra
