There were a bit of an awkward silence as Elsa and Ralph sat, just looking another, hand on hand. The concerns for an officer slash close friend were being replaced with, well, thoughts of them actually being in the same room not wanting to stab one another with a steak knife. Or to yell at one another. Was it finally being let go? That awful date?
"...Sort of silly to let one bad date ruin a good friendship," she remarked. "Because...I...well, I mean to say is...I do care about you, and...yes, that night ended on a bad note, but...did you ever consider, you know, starting fresh?"

"I guess not. I mean, I never really believed people could just 'start over' and all.."
Ralph couldn't help but look at Elsa as he spoke. As nervous as this kind of talk made him, it also felt as if a weight that had been sitting in his chest for too long was starting to lessen. Maybe that had been the problem all this time, not talking about their issues.
"But now....it doesn't seem all that impossible."

It was like the ice had broken. Ralph was smiling at Elsa, well in his eyes he was. Elsa felt her cheeks redden. It was like talking about the issues without addressing them directly. Before, when he had saved her life, she had tried to resolve them. It had all just been bad timing.
"So...I hear there's this new bartender down at the Bourbon. He's no doubt nicer than that one...what his name? LeFou?"
She remembered the first time she met Ralph. The cops had invited her for happy hour. LeFou had been ignoring Ralph. Annoyed, she had threatened the bartender by pinning him to the wall with ice and didn't let him go until he served Ralph.
"If you aren't busy one night, care to indulge in his company?"

"I think a cockroach would be nicer then that LeFou guy."
He couldn't help but smirk at that distant memory. The bartender had been avoiding serving Ralph the whole night, avoiding any direct discrimination because of the badge he wore but using a passive aggressive approach that had quickly started to wear on the Giant. However, before he or his fellow officers had done anything Elsa had stepped in herself and 'reprimanded' the little man. The rest of that night LeFou had served Ralph fairly while also shooting terrified glances at Elsa.
"Sure....yeah, sure. That would be nice."

A cockroach. Considering how tiny and how ill fitted that jacket was, it was a good comparison.
She had expected Ralph to shrug off her offer. To excuse it with a lie of being "too busy" or something she knew was bullshit. But the Giant was looking directly at her. He wasn't fidgeting. He wasn't doing anything that could result in in her seeing that all he was doing was avoiding any chance of seeing her again. He had given her an answer to the invitation
And the answer was yes. She grinned widely.
"Oh, good! Um...what days are you available?"

"Well, I'm pretty busy with my cases right now but the nice thing about being a private investigator is I'm self-employed. So any day really as long as it's after 5 pm."
Ralph couldn't help but mimick Elsa's smile as they looked at each other. A powerful warmth seemed to be spreading through his chest now, a feeling he hadn't experienced in a long time. In fact, the last time he had felt this way was just before everything had go so wrong on that first date with Elsa. He had though the feeling would never return....until now.

Ah yes, the benefits of being self-employed. Elsa never would work for a law firm, not if it was defiling her practice or to betray the people she was considering friends. Her clients were outcasts like her, in a sense. She nodded in understanding.
"Okay, after 5 it is. I guess we'll just meet there...thank you for...well...for everything."
The couch squeaked as she stood up, dusting her skirt off. As she walked to the door, she cast one last smile in Ralph's direction, This was reflecting that bubbly warmth she was feeling growing inside her. She never showed this girlish side to anyone, except maybe Jenna. It was something...she actually was beginning to enjoy. The door shut as she left, and she pressed a hand over her beating heart. Why was she in a tizzy about this? Again? Well, time would tell later. ((end thread))
