Riku could barely sit still on the ride there. Both from excitement and cars just made him jumpy now. But he wanted to stick by his temporary partner so he let her drive and put up with the car drive. When they got there he walked to the scene of the crime and looked around. There were jewelry scattered everywhere and broken glass. Obviously someone had been desperate. He put his hands on his hips and looked over at Sunshine. "Well, what do you think? It looks like someone was in a hurry to me. Want to get a closer look?"

Sunshine shifted the police car into the farthest spot in the main Magnolia Road parking lot. Adrenaline was pumping through her beins the minute she heard the satisifying beep of the car being locked. She and Riku were hot on the trail of the jewel thief, who had made himself known by being a regular at a certain stand. However, the footage showed he wasn't there to buy. This was evidenced by the littered jewelry pieces all over the ground. Riku asked her opinion, and she pursed her lips in thought. "That or he was too focused on what he was looking for that he didn't care."
She ducked under the police line to the station. The discarded jewelry was thing t=she had seen everywhere. They were braids of silver and brass. She dug into her pokcet and pulled out a pair of purple forensic glove,s tossing a pair to Riku. "Watch your step," she warned. "if he's a hurry, sweeping up glass was his least conc..."
A plaque was at the edge of the broken container. Written in thick bold letters was the name of the artifact; "HARLEQUIN DIAMONDS"

Riku stopped at the plaque and pulled on the forensic gloves, they being a tight fit on his giant furry hands and one finger of the gloves dangling unused seeing as he only had three fingers and a thumb now. careful not to break the gloves on his hands he picked up the plaque. "This is going off of his normal targets" he mused to Sunshine. "But diamonds supposedly harness residual energy of spirits and such for healing. Or so I've heard. I don't use stones for healing. My mother did though" but she wasn't talking to him anymore. It was frustrating. She'd be a great asset to the investigation at this point.

"160 carats...I may not be the expert, but a diamond that big...is going to sap a lot of spiritual energy." It was the only way to change what Sunshine considered an awkward topic to what was relevant. She found the whole scenario in regards to her partner ironic. Her last partner had amnesia, the second partner had a whole history that was the gossip of everyone in Lieu Sanglate. The great Lafeyette heir had gone to the "dark side", assisting Other cops in protecting the city from, well, Other threats. "We might have motive if the healing gems are the size we're talking about. How much did the other thefts weigh?"

Riku gave a low whistle. A diamond that big was nothing to sneeze at. He ran back to the car and grabbed the case file they'd left on the seat and read the notes on the diamonds. He came back to Sunshine with the files in his hands. "Nothing under 100 carats. Either they're that sick or they're selling the jewels to people who are sick. Or both. Not uncommon for people to sell jewels that have had their healing stores depleted. But what are they trying to do? cure cancer?"

Sunshine stifled a laugh as she reviewed the notes. Cancer led to a lot of desparation in this city. Faeries could provide cures, but according to Aqua, they needed permission to enter the archives. She flipped over each theft report, noting the sizes and then something stopped her for a bit. The shape. Each of the stolen jewels was cut into a rhombus. "Hey, just found another connection. They're all carved into rhombuses. The area of the jewel would get faster results because of the pointed end..." Realizing she was going on a different tangent, she blushed. "I...was top of my class in geometry in high school."

Riku looked over Sunshine's shoulder at the jewels and nodded. "I didn't notice that. Good job spotting that. I'm not sure what shape would do with the distribution of healing power, but it's a good spot" he patted her shoulder and nodded before going back to looking around at the crime scene. He knelt down and picked up a piece of glass. "Hey Sun! we got a partial print it looks like. I dunno if it's by the perp or someone else but it's something"

Sunshine looked up. Both from the promise of forensic evidence at the crime scene and at the nickname. No one had ever called her Sun. She kind of liked the sound of it. It wasn't girlie like 'Sunny', but it wasn't too masculine like Thomas' failed nickname 'solar flare' for her. She rushed over with her phone set up onto the Seelie vision mode. The app acted like forensics scanners, making DNA studies on the fly quicker. She took a snap at the glass Riku held in his paw. The results took 3 minutes to scan, until the results came up
"Let's see...the print belongs to...an Abigail Wood. Aged 13. Troll blood..."
She slowed her thought process down. What would a thirteen year old want with jewels meant for healing?

Riku frowned and looked down at the fingerprint. Kid had to be desperate or she wouldn't have done something so stupid. She'd lost her entire future because of this now. "I take it she's been in the system for stuff like this before? Got any information where this little troll girl is living currently? Maybe we can figure out where she is and ask her why she took healing jewels" and where did this kid even get the information on healing stones anyway? He was pretty sure it wasn't taught in ordinary schools. He took a baggie out of one of his pockets and put the glass into it for evidence. "Alrighty, now to find Abigail"

"OR...We could ask her right now."
Sunshine pointed discretely in the direction of one of the exits. Weaving through the crowd was a mop of greasy mousy hair. The picture on the forensics shots looked identical. She held up the DNA results, hoping the app would deem the runaway a match. Sure enough, the screen turned a bright emerald. Tucking her phone into her pocket, she quietly followed the trail. It would be tricky with her blonde hair, now tucked into a segmented ponytail to avoid tripping anyone or knocking any valuables over. She didn't even need to use her gun here. If Shadow taught her anything, accusations was the absolutely wrong way to go; she had learned that the hard way.

Riku turned to look where Sunshine was looking and quickly spotted the little troll girl. He pointed to a side street. "I'll go around and block her off. Any other way and she'll spot us given I kind of stick out" a giant bunny cop? yea, okay. That would be spotted in a nanosecond. So the best he could do is go around and cut the girl off before she got very far. With his longer legs, he was confident he could do it.

Sunshine nodded silently at Riku's suggestion. His speed was going to be useful, especially around a little girl with speed of her own. Plus, having soemone fast reminded her of working with Shadow again. It was the classic ambush, but it was almost always perfect. While she wove through the crowds to look at the mousy girl, she also kept her eye on the blur of gray. It might have just been her imagination, but she swore she saw some of the silver from his human form shining through the bunny fur. Abigail skirted a corner, and Sunshine pressed herself against the wall, no longer in pursuit but close enough to observe what was going to happen next.

Riku raced through the market and took some side streets to end up in front of Abigail, taking a moment to make sure of where he was, where Abigail was and where Sunshine was. He could see her pressed against a wall, watching. He nodded to her and walked over to Abigail. "Hey there" he greeted and tilted his head, ears cocking as she stared at him up and down. "What have you got in the bag sweetie?" Abigail put protective hands over the duffel bag and turned around to run back the way she had come.

As Abigail turned, Sunshine made her step. She stood firm, cupping her hand around her badge. The demon's head on the star, the badge of the Others Unit, was flashed to the young girl.
"Bellerouge Police. We found your prints at the Quinn jewelry store. We know you stole the Harlequin Diamond, no point in lying to us."
Abigail's green eyes watered. Maybe fake tears would earn sympathy. "I...I just..."

Riku also flashed his badge and stood resolutely behind the girl, prepared if she tried to run. "All we want are the stolen jewels and a reason why you took them in the first place. I hope you know just how much trouble you're in, little lady" Abigail sniffed and rubbed her watery nose on her arm. "I had to steal them. I just had to!" she defended. But didn't seem willing to go into why. Riku looked over to Sunshine for her lead.
