"Does that mean you're...volunteering to be bait?" Sunshine asked. Fear glittered in her eyes. No, no, the bait couldn't be one person. Everyone was trying to jump the gun and play the sacrificial lamb She couldn't let that happen. No. Not when she just got Shadow back after his absence. Not after the struggles Aqua went through to get her the family history. She was putting her foot down. The fear was replaced with determination. "We all should go. Strength in numbers and all. That and that way if Croc targets one of us, we can all be on backup."
Shadow nodded impressedly. Sunshine brought up a good point. One officer getting lost or killed would mean the blood was on all their hands. That, and even though Croc was strong enough to hold all them down with one hand and magle them with another, he wasn't the brightest bulb in the box. Distract one, get four others shooting.
"Use the lightweight powder on Sunshine and yourself," he told Riku. "Red, use your spirit as a beacon back here in case we get turned around. Aqua and I can navigate with our...arsenal," he nodded to Aqua's wings and his jet skates. "Remember. Move slowly."

Riku shrugged. "Well, kind of? I fully intend to fight but I'm going to be rather drained after the lightweight spell. I'm literally holding up weight with my mind. It's going to be mentally taxing" He shrugged again and nodded. "I guess I'll be a little behind you guys. I've got the powders to throw and my sword if anyone gets in a jam but I'll be busy keeping the spell going at the same time"
Red nodded at Shadow's directions and got ready to take her own route. "Okie dokie suga. Follow th frog spirit an don't make a lotta noise. We got surprise on our side right now"

If Riku was behind them, it was a risky move. Not even seasoned cops wanted to be behind during Croc hunts. Shadow hated to admit it out loud, but he was impressed. He nodded to the frog, watching as it slid into the water.
Shadow slowly glided onto the surface, his skates rippling the water. Each time a ripple shot out, he cringed. They'd give away their position, but thankfully they were small enough to avoid giving big sounds.
Sunshine clicked on her flashlight. With the darkness of the bayou looming, swamp gas would be ineffective light. The spirit guiding them would helps bit in showing potential sinkholes. Sinkholes that would be avoided once a Riku cast his powders. Speaking of which, she looked back at him with a reassuring smile. That they'd be okay.

Aqua shook her head before flying up. Group operations were complicated. She held up her hand and a small ball of light appeared, lighting her way. Her eyes scanned the brush. It was going to be hard to tell Killer Croc from a real crocodile. She glared at the water, as if that would make their criminal show up any faster. Still, she felt awful. She didn't know the first thing about hunting wild game. They should have had a park representative there or a local huntsman. They would know the signs of disturbed wildlife.

"So...Shadow..you've been on the police longer than most..." Sunshine tucked a hair behind her ears. She knew her on-edge partner's woundeness could make situations awkward. If she chipped the heaviness by talking about the criminal, maybe he'd loosen up, "what got Croc caught in the first place?"
Shadow glanced back then overhead. Aqua had shone a light above, looking remarkably like another moon. Sunshine was playing the "glass full" card, and it always worked on him when she did it.
"He had been hanging out near the sewer networks of Bellerouge. Unlucky people went in and never came out. Mobs used it as a means of dumping people. We were called to investigate an MIA human cop. Instead, we found Croc.."
"And the cop?" Sunshine asked.
"Let's just say it took our lizard friend six hours to hide the evidence."

The frog slid away into the water and Red cut to the side of it and away, keeping a close eye on the spirit as she did so, just to make sure she was keeping in the right direction. Riku put his hands together in a gesture and began murmuring words. His, Red's and Sunshine's feet all glowed for a moment. He leaned over and panted as though he'd run a race. He swallowed, nodded to Sunshine, and stepped onto the water. It sank slightly but he stayed on top of it. He motioned for Sunshine to do the same as Riku got his sword out and from his satchel a little doll. It could be bait ,or a handy little distraction. The doll waved at Sunshine and held on to Riku's hand as he moved forward.

Aqua flit overhead. Things were tense. They were always tense when hunting down criminals. Especially when the criminals were dangerous. Shadow's story about the poor officer that he stumbled across this man-beast was only forewarning of what could happen to any of them if they weren't careful. She can't help but feel that she would have been better off with a 'be careful' than a 'oh he had six hours to hide the body' or eat it. She shivered. Still, her eyes were trained to the water. Any sign of motion and she might have started hurling spells.

As the summon went up, Sunshine took one cautious step. Well, whatever Riku's charm was, it worked. Her feet were resting on the surface of the water, no sinking or any of that craziness. Her feet still sent sound waves, but at least she could walk along the water's surface without fear of hitting a sinkhole. In Riku's hands, he held a small doll. If it weren't moving, it actually would have been...well...moderately cute At least it wasn't a terrifying china doll.
The walk was kept in tense silence. Who knew if he was close by? It was all that mattered. A hissing sound came from nearby, and it made Shadow hold out a hand. Something scaly did emerge but it wasn't their target. No, it was just a small alligator that had been startled by their lights.
Relief was short lived, though. The small reptile was suddenly gripped by a huge hand. Far too big to be human despite it having five fingers. The skin was moist and green, and even bigger than Ralph's. The smaller reptile tried to wriggle out, but to no avail. Sunshine's reaction was to cock her gun with a mildly frightened squeak. But just before she could shoot, Shadow skated to her side to gently press her hand down.
"Shooting him will piss him off even more." he warned as the hand pulled the alligator into the depths, where only tiny bubbles remained.

The alligator that had been grabbed had to at least be a yearling. He wasn't as large as some of them got but he was big enough to be a nuisance gator that people sometimes called in about that had gotten into their pools and the type that could eat small dogs. Except he was grabbed by something much larger. Aqua suddenly felt incredibly grateful for her wings and some distance from the water. She also felt worried for her coworkers. Could she fly faster than a Croc could swim and save someone if he went for them? She had to carry Shadow and Pitch once, that had severely injured her wings for a long time until Sunshine healed her, but could she get four out if it came down to it? She didn't want to find out the answer to that.
"How did we catch him last time?" she asked warily.
If she tried any electrical magic, she would risk shocking her co-workers. If she tried to freeze something, she could freeze them too. Were they supposed to just beat him into submission? Trick him? String him along with a large array of meats to a BPD truck? She didn't even think a sleep spell could work on someone that large. He would burn through the magic quickly. Would tranquilizer darts even work on someone with scales for protection? Did it work on half human-half crocodile beings of undefined origin?

Riku smiled at Sunshine and walked behind them. He gripped his sword in response to the sound and movement but it was just a little gator. And then something entirely massive went and grabbed the gator. Riku's eyes widened and he got ready to fight, even poising to throw the little doll as a distraction so he could go for the neck. But Killer Croc sank beneath the surface once more and Shadow cautioned Sunshine, Riku also heeding his words and relaxing his hand on his sword and moving the hand holding the doll down a little to a more relaxed position.
Red watched the whole thing from the trees and got out more paper to summon more spirits.

How did they catch Croc the last time? Shadow shuddered at that memory. The words Croc threatened them with were generic, but watching the underwater assault...creepy. "Let's just say the word 'sacrificial chicken' never caught on," he answered.
Sunshine blinked. "Like..,an actual...feathery...
"No. A whole chicken from the store," Shadow contradicted. "We got the jump by feeding him then zapping the shock collar with a charge."
Sunshine's eyes darted to the water's surface. Who knew how long Riku's spell would last. And they didn't have dry land to give an advantage. Also, hat was there to stop him from getting back into the water? Hitting the shock collar was one thing, keeping him contained and delivered to custody was another. On the water, they were sitting cops.
"Did you guys have some kind of, you know, containment?"
"Kind of. Nature was on our side. Got stuck in the mud. We wrestled him out while he was recovering from shocks."

"Here we are without chicken." she muttered dryly.
Aqua twitched. She didn't exactly think she wanted to 'feed the gator'. That seemed like a quick way to lose a hand. Granted, they could just throw it out to him and try to reel him in with a line, but she couldn't touch any wire that was strong enough to withstand Killer Croc's sheer strength. She flit back and forth over the water, feeling anxious and uncomfortable.
"Shadow, plan? This one is your collar..."

"I have dolls and Red has spirits that can offer as a distraction" Riku said thoughtfully. "Or we trek back to the closest deli and buy a chicken. It's your call really" He looked over at Sunshine and smiled at her. "Do you have ideas Sun?" he asked. "Maybe I can find an animal that could serve as something useful" but then he might have the spirit mad at him...
Red waited behind the trees, watching the goings on closely. She was waiting for a signal of some sort to indicate she should act.

Shadow and Sunshine looked at one another. Spirits as a waiver to get a hungry crocodile man could backfire. Red may have had them under her belt, but tick off a big name, and there could be trouble. The dolls seemed like the most ideal plan Riku could no doubt make more, and losing a few wouldn't get anyone hurt. But he wouldn't be interested in the dolls alone. That, and the nickname he gave her, Sun, was putting both of them out of focus, one out of flattery for a nickname and the other out of annoyance he didn't of that nickname in the first place.
"Something tells me that alligator will give him more meat than a chicken would," Shadow said, "It may have worked the first time, but let's not underestimate him because he's mostly animal. There's still some, albeit a small amount, of human reasoning in there."
"The dolls is the safest option," Sunshine chimed in. "The question is do we..."
Musings were cut short by something lunging out of the water. Croc was back, and apparently the small alligator had only been an appetizer. The large, green muscles arms were outward, and he managed to knock both cops t the ground. At standing height, he would have been over nine feet. The muscley ripped body was adorned with heavy scales, finding a weak spot would be difficult to get a tranquilizer in. His yellow eyes were narrowed into hungry slits, and the sharp teeth were open wide. The only greeting was the loud hungry hiss before he had found his prey.
But before he could get a nice bite of hedgehog-human sandwich, both cops had pressed their hands onto his massive head, holding him back and smelling the blood and guts in his breath. Sunshine tasted bile in her mouth, and had to swallow to avoid vomiting. Shadow was pushing as hard as he could to keep Croc from adjusting his head. The teeth her only inches from the neck before he just punched Croc directly in the teeth, sending the predator sprawling.
"Aqua!" Sunshine called out.
