Sunshine shifted her eyes around the room, playing along with Anna. Shadow could teleport wherever and whenever he wanted, which meant he could appear any moment, but when Anna mentioned his demise, she shot the forensics scientist a quizzical look. Shadow had come from a rough beginning, almost literally starving to death on the streets. It was his strong will that kept him alive and to get on the task course he was in today.
"I'll...let him know you wanted him to try your...chicken tagine. It's better than the time we got food poisoning from John's attempt to make butter chicken." Sunshine loved her stepfather, but wasn't ashamed to admit he was a bad chef; a good baker, but bad at savories.

Anna was completely oblivious to the fact that her words about Shadow starving had a double meaning for Sunshine. Then again, she wasn't aware of the hard past he had come from, only the time she had spent with him at the BPD. And no one was as close to or knew as much about him as Sunshine.
"You know more of his cooking than I do! But seriously, if you and your family really have your hearts set on my chocolate surprise cupcake recipe, you know the drill. I give you a recipe, you give me one."
Anna smiled warmly at Sunshine as she pushed the table Krystal was laid out on towards another door set in the wall through which the morgue lay.

The loud clang of metal was the last noise associated between the two girls and Krystal. Who knew what kind of conservations they would have had if she were alive? Would they had succumbed to the typical girlie cliches of talking about boys or makeup or whatever? Sunshine was happy that she didn't stick with that type of crowd growing up, preferring to stick to her arts. Yet, ironically, here she was talking with a young woman about food.
"Deal," she gave Anna the thumbs up, "just tell me what it is you're wanting. Bread, pies...our top secret chocolate beer beignets?"

For a moment the only sounds that could be heard were from inside the morgue as Krystal was loaded onto one of the sliding tables and pushed into the refrigerated cubicles of the wall. Once the body was secure, Anna reappeared in the autopsy room as if nothing had interrupted her and Sunshine's conversation from before.
"Hmmm. Gonna have to go with the beignets, although I gotta say your family has perfected that recipe. Not sure if I can make ones as good as you can get at the Nevermore."
While she was speaking Anna had begun to prepare Ashlynn's body for the morgue just as she had done for Krystal.

"Like I said," Sunshine made an over the top wiggling motion with her hands, imitating a ghost wail, "tooopppp seeeecccreeetttt...." She was kneeling down at this point, still waving her hands like crazy. This was good, because the sight of Ashlynn's deep-fried skin still grossed her out. It was ridiculous that someone would use highly flammable oil, baby oil, to something so high quality as a tanning bed. So much for that baby soft skin and baby powder smell.

Anna was preparing to move Ashlynn's body when she snorted at Sunshine's antics and leaned against the table right where the girl's charbroiled head lay. To look at her you would think Anna was leaning over a plate of cookies and not the badly burned remains of a young woman.
"Seems to me top secret must have a different meaning between you and me. For most folks that means never ever ever let someone else know it. For us, it seems to mean "what top secret thing do you have to trade me for today?"
Anna let out another snort before taking Ashlynn's body to join Krystal's.

Ashlynn's body was shoved back into the wall, much like her close friend Krystal. To have their dead bodies laying just caddy corner close to one another was bittersweet. Sunshine wondered if the families collecting the bodies would notice that, even in death, the closeness was there. After the friends were sealed away, Sunshine tapped her lip, going through the recipes she'd willingly give to Anna.
"How about baguettes? It saves going to the store to buy ones that get hard after three days."

"Deal!"
Anna's voice called back from behind the morgue doors before she pushed through them once more. Now that her 'charges' were safely stowed, she walked over to a sink that lay right next to the counter where her tools an rubber ducks all stood ready and waiting. She pulled off her gloves and tossed them into a trashcan before expertly cleaning her hands.
One thing she had learned early on was that her love of autopsy and cooking should never mix, and that meant hands as clean as possible.
"So we'll trade the recipes tonight at my house. Remember, the tagine will be on the table at 6 sharp!"

Well, Anna was off to wash her hands. It was as good of a cue as any for Sunshine to leave. "I'll relay the info to Shadow. Thanks gaian, Anna." Collecting the files and her notes, she left the morgue, waving at the happy collection of ducks. ((end thread))
