Pitch heard Adeline's words but didn't heed them and instead continued to speak slowly around his deep gasps for breath.
"Thrax tricked.... me. Emerald dust......coward's move."
His words were broken up by a series of wet sounding coughs that made his body tense in pain, the blood-slicked fingers of his hands digging into his punctured side. Despite the seriousness of the stab wound, the worst of the pain came from were the emerald dust had touched him.
"Adeline....I can't......I can't see."
He was starting to burn up with heat as the emerald worked its way through his system, but suddenly he felt the touch of a cool hand, gently pressing over where his lay on his injured side.

Adeline's head was swimming. The woman and Pitch were talking at the same time and she was finding it difficult to pay attention to both. She wasn't sure if the emerald dust was affecting her or not. She was human enough where only wearing jewels like that bothered her, and even then, it was only a headache, never anything like this where there was blood everywhere. She choked back a sob when Pitch said he couldn't see. Was it just a temporary thing? Had Thrax ruined his vision forever? Part of her wished she hadn't let him go. He deserved every bad thing in the world for what he had done. But she also knew that if she had gotten his hands on him, she wouldn't have stopped until he was dead. And even though Thrax was an evil person, Adeline hated the idea of killing. She knew others did it for a living, and even saved people's lives by doing it, but she could never do it herself. Her head shot up when a sound caught her ear. It was the sound of sirens. Even through her tears, she could see the flashing lights of ambulances and police cars. "It's okay, you're going to be fine. The paramedics and the cops are here. You're going to be okay," she said, her words conflicting with the shaking of her voice and tears falling down her face. Part of her was still afraid. Would the paramedics know what to do? Could they save Pitch? Could they save his eye sight? Scratch that. She didn't care about the eyesight. She just wanted Pitch alive, whether he could see or not. She couldn't lose him.

Pitch couldn't see and moving hurt horrendously, so all he could do was simply lay there and listen. He listened to Adeline's words, could hear the shake in them and sense the fear that was flowing from her. However, this fear was a bitter thing because it wasn't fear for herself but rather for him.
He hated that he was so weak in that moment, he hated the pain eating away at him and the fact that he had failed in his promise, but the thing he hated the most was that he was hurting Adeline.
"I'm sorry.....Adeline. I let....let him hurt you...again."
Distantly he could hear the mournful warble of an ambulance as it grew closer, but he was finding it harder and harder to stay focused. He was so tired and all he wanted to do in that moment was lay down and let the darkness take him, but he couldn't. He couldn't because it would hurt Adeline even more.

"It's not your fault. You couldn't have...I didn't..." Adeline wiped her eyes, trying to get a grip. But she couldn't help but feel like Pitch was saying sorry in case he didn't make it, and she didn't even want to entertain the possibility of that happening. As soon as the ambulances and cop cars pulled up, people came streaming out. Almost like clockwork, they moved about, assessing the situation, deciding what needed to be done. Adeline was pulled away as paramedics surrounded Pitch, but she couldn't understand why they were talking with her. What more details did they need? Pitch needed to get to a hospital, now.
"She might go into shock. We should probably take her to hospital too," she heard one of them say.
She shook her head. "Why are you worrying about me? Focus on him. He needs it more," she said, pointing at Pitch.
"Miss, he'll be okay. He's got a team looking after him," said the same voice, which Adeline finally registered as a male one. "But you need to get looked at too. You've got some nasty bruising around your neck."
"I don't care!" Adeline yelled, any thoughts of being calm and level-headed falling by the wayside. She needed them to understand this. Pitch was the one who got emerald dust thrown at his face and stabbed. He couldn't see, could hardly talk, was barely conscious. He needed all the medical attention they could offer, and they couldn't do that if they were focusing on her. "He needs help! Just save him, please!" That was all she could say before she started crying, her whole body shaking like a leaf. She couldn't talk even if she wanted to. All her emotions crowded out her voice. The only sounds she could make were great heaving sobs that nobody could console. She was barely even aware of what was happening around her. Just certain moments flickered in every now and then. The paramedics trying to settle her down enough that they could get her into the ambulance. Someone said something about getting into contact with her parents. She could still see lots of other ones around Pitch, trying to get him stable enough to get him to the hospital as well. All she could do was hope and pray that he came out of this, because she didn't even want to imagine what would happen if he didn't.
((Want to wrap this up and get a thread started for them at the hospital?))

Pitch wanted to say more to Adeline in that moment, to hold her in his arms and say how truly sorry he was that he hadn't been able to keep his promise to her. However, when he tried to speak again another fit of coughing took hold of him and this time it didn't stop until he could taste blood in his mouth.
Things seemed to be growing distant then and he couldn't hold onto anything. The voices that suddenly surrounded him, the feeling of being lifted onto some kind of board. They all grew as insubstantial as fog or mist and all that was left was the looming darkness that even he couldn't control.
The last thing he managed to hold onto before unconsciousness took him as he was loaded into the back of an ambulance was the sound of Adeline's voice, begging them to save him. And then he fell into the black void.
(End Thread. And sure. Me start it or you?)
