Anna listened to what Axel was saying but knew that he was at least partially right. She wasn't quite listening to him, not in the way he wanted her to.
Then he was asking her, almost begging her to promise to get herself help if her symptoms got worse. She still firmly believed that she just had a common flu or something but there was no way to deny that the concern in his voice was real enough. Slowly, she forced her head up until her eyes met Axel's face.
"I'll make an appointment to see the doctor..."
This was really the only promise she could make to him in that moment and actually keep. If she was sick with some flu to begin with, she would need to pay a visit to her primary physician anyways and it would be an easy way to placate Axel at the same time.

"Thank you." he said sincerely.
It was laughable. Him begging her to think of her health, being pleased and thanking her, his sincerity. She brought all of those things to the surface. Some demons might have said he had gone soft. He might have agreed with them before he met her. He didn't entirely mind too much. She brought out good things in him, things he hadn't realized were there to be brought out. But her promise to get a doctor's appointment set up, brought a relief through him that was like a shot of water to the veins. She might insist that she was sick with the flu, but he knew better.
"Can you get home?" he asked.

"Yes..."
Anna didn't say anymore. She seemed to have lost her voice completely by that point and her gaze dropped down so that she was no longer looking into Axel's face. It was painful to look at him in that moment because she knew deep down that she had hurt the Fire Demon deeply. She hadn't cared when she was upset, when the fire of anger was burning so fiercely inside of her and it had been so easy to blame him for her own pain.
However, now that the anger was gone all she felt was a deep shame. When had she become such a selfish person? When had her emotions become so unstable and out of control? She didn't know and she didn't have the strength to search for the answers right then and there.
Without another word, she shakily rose to her feet and stepped out from the booth, still keeping her eyes downcast. She felt so weak in that moment and her body cried out for rest.

Axel got to his feet when she did. He had to bite the inside of the cheek. He would have walked her home, would have carried her home if she asked. But for the moment, she had asked for space. He had to respect that, even if he didn't like it. What a complicated mess that was. All because he wanted to get a cup of coffee and happened upon her. Not really that surprising since Nevermore was so popular, but at the same time still coincidence that they were both there at the same time.
"Can I get you a cab?" he asked.

Anna merely shook her head. In that moment, she had nothing left to say to Axel that wouldn't potentially start something again. Without another word, she walked to the entrance of the Nevermore Café and pushed the door open. Just before she left, she glanced up quickly to see Axel standing there watching her.
She looked at him for a single moment before walking out of the store, the door closing quietly behind her with only the slightest tingling of the bell.

Axel sighed when she left. He smoothed a hand through his hair. This wasn't how he wanted his day to go but considering what he had done to her, he was lucky. She could have sworn a vengeance against him. She could have screamed and shouted and kicked and screamed. Well, there had been some screaming and she had done something to herself that could hurt her, but she wasn't dead. That had to count for something. He wasn't going to be getting his coffee either. He went to the front door and flipped the sign to open again.
