"Everyone's got some way of doing that."
To hear her say thank you, thank you to him, a cop, the very occupation she despised, for an understandable reason, it was...a small part of him was proud she could swallow her own pride to say it. That probably wasn't easy for her to say that out loud. Better yet, he heard his name alongside that thank you. The only people who did that were his co-workers in the department. Yang had also been saying it to him, but something about hearing from Jane. He couldn 't put a finger on why hers was making him feel...wanted.
"I'm helping Yang get back into the groove of her life." Wow, really Shadow? He thought to himself.

"At least someone is!" Jane said. "I didn't really do much for her but bring her cupcakes..."
She felt bad for not being able to do more. She did. But at the same time she could readily admit, she hadn't known how to best help Yang. The loss of her arm was something serious. Far more serious than Jane was used to coping with. She hadn't wanted to make things worse by saying the wrong thing. She was a bit of a hot head. So wrong day, wrong time, bad moment, she could probably see herself making things worse. So she let Yang know that if she needed her, get ahold of her at any moment.

"You at least did something as opposed to say you were her friend and do absolutely nothing. Speaking of which, your cupcakes were a close second to Nevermore."
It wasn't easy to try and be there for someone going through hell and back. He had gone to see her after enough time had passed for her to get over the shock of it all. Time on the force and time with a softer girl had taught him rushing in too early would result in things getting worse. Maybe Jane knew that, too.

"I borrowed one of dad's cook books." Jane admitted.
She should have had memories learning the recipes with Omar himself, but better late than never, she supposed. She also had her long life to live with her father now that they were reunited - all thanks to Yang. It would have taken her ages to find Omar on her own. Jane was glad that Yang had such a support system around her, even with that thing where she ended up in the news papers with that rich guy. It was... strange. Because Jane thought she had liked that thief guy who had broken into her house a few times.
"I'm glad she's got good friends."

"Well, what about you? Don't you have friends in this town looking out for you?"
There hopefully were teachers around her age for her to catch up with or get advice from. Or people that she could talk to besides her father. Yang may have been the only person Jane had, and well, it didn;t quite seem right. Were she and Namine bonding? Granted, being held by a demon was not an ideal...well, wait, he was one to talk; he and his best friend met while imprisoned by vampires.

"Just Yang and my dad." Jane admitted. "I look out for Namine. Apparently, my dad's going to adopt her. Her real father is a shitty bastard."
Namine had accidentally told her before Omar had, but Jane wasn't too upset. He could see why her father agreed to adopt Namine. The girl really needed a good positive parental figure in her life. With her mother no where to be found and her father in jail for hurting her, Omar was a natural choice. Even a blind person could see that Omar was a better selection than any other person that this young woman was forced to be around. Her dad also had a fondness for children. Namine's position gave her a child-like feel to her, granted everyone was younger than Omar so they were literally all children in his eyes.

"Good. She can't live a life in fear without anyone watching her."
Shadow's hand clenched ever slightly at hearing her father was a shifty bastard. He had known absolutely nothing of Naminr's home life. Really, outside of her "witchcraft", he knew nothing about her. The small spark of wrath inside him sputtered. There was nothing to exert the rage out onto without people getting hurt. So he fought back the anger with the positive, as Sunshine kept suggesting he do to ensure his chaos was under manageable control.
"If anyone can take of her, it's Omar. He has adopted half the population."

"Well, he is one of the oldest Others in the city. We're all little kids to him." Jane replied. "She's the only one he's looked into legally adopting."
Jane still thought it amusing how her dad was always in 'dad-mode' and constantly looking after the younger beings in the city. Shadow wasn't kidding when he said Omar had all but adopted half of the city. Jane was his daughter by blood. Namine would soon be his daughter legally. Yang was all but considered family (along with the kids she had taken to raising). Not to mentioned Jane's older siblings that she had never met. Her father was a big softy when it came to kids despite his rough and tough attitude.

Oldest in the city, huh? There may or may not need to be a consensus test placed on that. Well, not like the people in this city cared about the stats concerning Others. Unless they were numbers on how many were in the city without homes or jobs or whatever. He didn't mull over too hard on it or say anything that could start stirring his chaos.

"Don't tell me he's trying to adopt you too," Jane joked. "I think I'm set on surprise siblings."
Sure, Namine had come as a bit of a surprise, but Jane wasn't angry about it. If anything, she was proud of her father for looking after the little blonde. She adored her father for each thing he did, particularly his feats of kindness. It almost made her childhood worth it. To meet someone so amazing that she wanted to be just like him. She supposed it was some childhood idolization of him, but she didn't mind. He was a wonderful role model.

"Oh, he tried to adopt me. I was so flattered," Shadow answered sarcastically.
Omar had been sweeping the city for a lot of ways to take care of the kids, which meant they had crossed paths on more than one occasion. He knew the troll meant well, but the idea he was sweeping everyone who was younger than he was was getting old. Shadow had made it clear that while he appreciated Omar's support, being considered a 'kid' was out of the question. Shadow was taking the mantle of 'uncle' if Omar had the mantle of 'father' to most of the kids.

"What? Old troll cramp your style?" she laughed.
Shadow was too independent for Omar to adopt. He was probably as rough and tough as Omar himself. Not exactly a 'child in distress' as her father often liked taking to. Namine was a young woman, terrified and defenseless. A natural candidate for her father to look to protect. Yang had gone through horrible traumas. Another good candidate. Shadow had been through awful things too, but he was looking to sort these things out on his own. He wasn't as defenseless or as easily rattled as Yang or Namine were.
"Dad means well. He's been through a lot and just wants everyone else to live happy lives." she defended.

"Nah, living under a bridge just didn't sound comfortable. You sure he isn't renting from the old woman in a shoe?" he retorted with a dry laugh.
Omar really did mean well in regards to getting everyone safe. Harsh reality was no safe place for kids. Kids who were judged or bullied because of Other blood or, well, life threatening illnesses as Maria had been. NIDS was common among individuals about her age...and all Shadow could hope was that Omar had ways of getting medicine to any child who was sick

"Oh I'm sure he's not," she said.
Her father was a troll all trolls should aspire to be. Sincere. Kind. Honest. He had been through a lot. Jane wasn't lying about that. Humans and faeries alike were unkind creatures that had hurt him in the past. Yet he still found it in him to be just as sweet and selfless as ever whenever he dealt with these beings. She adored her father. She knew it wasn't just some childhood hero worship. He really was someone she admired.
"His band is actually doing quite well."
