He hadn't given her much time to talk before he kissed her. He hadn't wanted to hear anything else. She was still, perhaps shocked, by his actions at first, but she eased into the kiss. She tasted sweet, perhaps it was his imagination since she always took fruity drinks or maybe it was just her. Slowly he let go of her hands since she hadn't tried to stop him. But he had to keep things chaste. Otherwise, a darker part of his nature might try to take advantage of the moment. He pulled away, just enough to look at her. Funny how a little kiss could make him feel like he just ran a marathon. He licked his lips. He could get addicted to doing that if he wasn't careful.
"I love you," he said. "Got it memorized?"
He reached behind her and double checked the sign was flipped to closed. They could open a little later today. His staff weren't in just yet. He had to restrain himself from carding his hand through her hair and kissing her again. He didn't exactly give her space this time. She had claimed to love him, he loved her back, but he wanted to hear her say what she wanted from him. He wasn't going to be yanked around by the nose.
"So where does this leave us, sweetheart?" he asked.

When Axel finally broke the kiss by pulling away slightly, Anna opened her eyes and blinked as if she didn't know where she was or what had been happening around them. Indeed, the moment she had closed her eyes it was as if everything around them had fallen away until it was only just the two of them left in the entire universe.
She didn't say anything immediately and instead put a hand up to her mouth, almost as if she couldn't quite believe what had just happened was real and not some dizzy daydream or farfetched fantasy. Her eyes looked up into Axel's face and something seemed to have come back into their depths. For a long time her blue eyes had looked as if the very soul had been taken from her yet now there could be now doubt as to the life and spirit that flashed within them.
And when he spoke, when he echoed the very words she had only just said to him, she couldn't help but let out a small laugh as tears began to flow down her face. But while for so long they had been tears of hurt and sorrow, those that now fell down her face could only be described as tears of happiness. She didn't try to hide these from him, didn't try to push her feelings inside or wipe away the water as it fell. She merely stood before the Fire Demon that had somehow managed to win her heart and spoke even as she laughed softly.
"I don't really know. But as far as I can tell, we're still in Bellerouge."
It was a silly joke and not all that funny, but it was as if Anna had finally come back to herself, as if the person she truly was had finally been restored. And still laughing quietly, she closed the distance between herself and Axel, bringing her arms around him and resting her head right over where his heartbeat lay.

"Hey, it's okay," he tried to reassure her.
But she was laughing and crying. He had said it once, he would say it a thousand times, humans were weird. If she was happy, he didn't understand why she was crying. It made next to no sense, but humans were like that in a nutshell. But she looked absolutely beside herself in joy. So he was going to assume he had done something right. It was how he did things best. He was about to try to lead her back to her barstool, since she looked a little weak at the knees, but she threw herself at him and held him close. At first, he stood still, not sure what to do except for staring at her in surprise. Not many people hugged him. He wasn't exactly someone who looked like he welcomed hugs. After a moment, his arms came up and wrapped around her just as tightly. He let his hand trace over her braids. It was like when she fell asleep on him on her couch. Except, well, standing.
"Making yourself comfortable?" he teased.
He wasn't going to lie, he liked having her close. Probably as much as he liked kissing her. Anna herself was like an addictive substance for him. And like any addict, he wasn't going to give her up just yet. Nothing could knock him out of his good mood at the moment. He was probably grinning ear to ear, but he didn't care. He had finally managed to convince Anna that he didn't care what had happened and he still had feelings for her regardless.

Still laughing weakly, she nodded her head even as she continued to hold Axel. And soon enough she felt his own strong arms go around her, holding her close to him in turn. For so long it had felt as if Anna was slowly succumbing to a terrible poison that was killing her mind, body and soul, and that she deserved it. Yet Axel had finally helped her do the thing she so desperately needed to do and just forgive herself, as if he were the antidote that had finally fought off that terrible poison inside her.
"Thank you, Axel."
She said the words as she listened to his heartbeat, a good and strong sound that made her feel stronger just by listening to it. When she finally looked up at him again she felt her own heart begin to beat louder and stronger, the feeling like one of finally coming back to life after so long of feeling close to death.
In that instant she wanted to kiss him again, wanted to feel his hands on her and the gentle pressure of his lips on hers. She wasn't even aware that she was leaning upwards towards him until the moment was shattered by the sound of something rapping against the glass front of the bar.
Looking around and feeling like a deer in the headlights, Anna immediately saw that Sarah, one of the girls who worked in the bar, was standing at the entrance and looking in at them. She had been tapping lightly on the glass with her fist and when she saw that the two of them were now looking at her, she shot a wide grin and spoke through the glass.
"While I can see both of you are busy, can you let me it? The rain's getting harder."

Talk about a distraction. But, if he had known kissing her would have brought back that spark to her, he would have volunteered to do it ages ago. The benefits of doing so were better than he expected. He smiled at her, even as she peered up at him. The things she did to him without even knowing it. She brought out a side of himself he thought wasn't possible.
It seemed like she was about to kiss him again when they were interrupted by a knock. Axel almost growled. Almost. He could see Sarah peering in through the window, drenched to the bone because of the rain. She didn't have to be so smug about interrupting them. Sure his staff insisted he get a life more and see someone, but they were all going to be giggling and gossipy tonight with their knowing smiles and hushed whispers. He had half a mind to leave her out there. Instead he sighed and reached around Anna to unlock the door for Sarah.
"Yeah, yeah," he groused at Sarah, "Get to the back and dry off."

"Alright Axel, whatever you say."
Sarah's voice was filled with amusement as she opened the door and stepped inside the bar. She lingered only long enough to remove her coat and sling it over her shoulder before heading towards the back of the bar where the servers stored their possessions, but as she passed Anna the spikey-haired brunette shot her a quick wink with her mischevious hazel eyes.
Anna felt her own face heat up and she dropped her head to the floor but the smile on her lips didn't falter in the slightest. Once Sarah was out of sight she looked up and Axel, pulling at one of her braids in a familiar gesture.
"Your staff is gonna be here soon and I'd hate to give them more to gossip about then they already have so.... maybe we could put this on hold for the moment. I mean, at least until later. Then maybe we could meet up somewhere else like..."
She paused, trying to think of a good place they could get together later to continue their.... talk. However, she seemed to have trouble forming a coherent thought in that moment. It was as if she had been on a wild rollercoaster ride that had suddenly come to a stop, leaving her feeling confused and dizzy in a good way. And all she could seem to think of in that moment was the feel of Axel holding her.

"Oh, so you're going to leave me to deal with their giggling?" he teased. "I see how it is."
He would have to deal with his staff. There was no way Sarah was not going to tell all the other waitresses, who would tell the cooks, who would tell the busboys. The domino effect would spread throughout the bar before everyone knew that Axel 'had the hots' for the medical examiner of the BPD. He would be angry if this wasn't how his staff showed they cared. It was going to be an interesting night for him. He stepped back, allowing her away from the wall he had trapped her against. Sarah was going to spin a really good story for her coworkers. Especially considering what she had walked in on. Or what it looked like she had walked in on.
"But you're right. They're going to be insufferable all night." he said. "Make your escape while you still can."
He peered out the window. The rain was letting up. Not fully gone yet, but lighter than it had been when she walked in. He picked up her umbrella from the floor. He took her hand in his and placed her umbrella in her hand, curling her fingers around the handle. The least he could do was give her an out so that the entire bar didn't laugh and gossip over the new couple.
"I'll take you out for coffee tomorrow. We can talk more then." he said.

Anna couldn't help but give a small smile at Axel's teasing but knew that it would be better to leave now for both of them. Embracing their feelings for each other had left both of them in a state where they couldn't seem to focus on anything else but she knew that the bar staff would certainly have a lot to say on the subject without her lingering around.
She could hear Sarah in the back still and glanced towards the entrance. Others would be arriving soon. However, even as Axel gently wrapped her hand around her umbrella part of her didn't want to leave. She wanted to be with Axel in that moment and nothing else. However, she knew she couldn't just steal him away from everything just as she couldn't just forget all the things she had to do. And they were already making plans to meet again, just the two of them.
Still, she lingered for a moment longer by the doorway as she looked up into Axel's face. His role in her life had changed so much and yet his face was still the same as when she had first met him. Remembering the moment when Axel had entered her life, she suddenly stood on the balls of her feet and kissed him lightly. As she pulled away, she spoke softly in his ear.
"Nevermore, tomorrow at 2. Don't be late, Flamehead."
With that, she shot him a half smile before turning and stepping back outside. She opened her umbrella and looked at the sky overhead, taking in a breath that felt truly free for the first time in a long time. The rain was already beginning to slacken and despite the day starting out so dark, it looked like the sun was breaking through and it would turn out to be a beautiful one after all.

"Wouldn't miss it for the world, sweetheart." Axel said.
He couldn't stop smiling. He probably looked like some love sick fool smiling after her the way he was, but everyone he met in love were fools. He watched her as she headed back out into the weather before he shook himself of his love high. He had work to do. He couldn't let this mess with his head otherwise tonight's bar service was going to be terrible. No one wanted that.
And then there was Anna, happy-go-lucky perky Anna. Finally back to herself. He wondered what made her realize that she liked him back. Questions for tomorrow he supposed. He wouldn't want to play Spanish Inquisition with her. He certainly couldn't chase after her this time when he was about to open the bar. There wasn't another available bartender for that night's service. He wondered if the little minx planned that. A confession so she could lay it on him and run. He would have to get her back for that later.
