Anna managed to give a small smile at Sunshine's words before she unwrapped the candy and popped it into her mouth. The truffle filled her mouth with the sweet taste of chocolate and a hint of cherry, managing to chase away the bitter taste of tears that had seemed to be all she had known for a long time. As the treat slowly began to melt away on her tongue, the medical examiner gave a small nod to Sunshine's words. However, her eyes were suddenly drawn to a flicker of light and when she looked at Sunshine's hand she saw it was a beautiful yet simple ring with a purple stone set into the band.
She looked at the ring for a moment, trying to remember if she had ever seen the long-haired blonde wear it before. It was only as she stared at the purple gem that she realized Sunshine was wearing it on the third finger of her left hand. And if Anna remembered correctly, traditionally this was the finger on which people were supposed to wear the ring they are given when they become engaged.

For a while, they just stood by her desk, slurping on chocolate. Sunshine felt her eyes wandering to her desk. In a hand painted frame was a picture of her family, smiling and for once being coated in flour or chocolate or whatever. Next to it was a shot of her and Shadow; the blonde was making an over the top smile while giving her partner bunny ears. He was smirking, the closest he got to a smile. Her eyes fell in her ring, and she noticed Anna staring at it, too.
“Yeah...um...I was going to tell you.”

"You're....tying the knot?"
Anna spoke around the last traces of chocolate lingering in her mouth but it was clear from her expression she was completely surprised by the news. She couldn't stop looking from the ring to Sunshine's face as she tried to process this news. Normally she would have been one of the first to hear about it but given her isolative behavior and her depression, she hadn't heard a single word.
And now here she stood in the office, completely taken aback by the fact that Sunshine was getting married!
"Is it Riku?"

“Yes!”
Sunshine’s answer was squealed out in delight. She hadn’t told anyone about the engagement except her family. That and the media was eating the story of her tying the knot to the voodoo heir. But telling her side of the story, the right one, was better. Eventually she’d tell her friends. Anna was a good place to start.

Even though she felt so emotionally exhausted by everything that had happened up to that point, Anna couldn't help but feel happy for Sunshine. And she couldn't stop the smile that pulled at her lips as she watched Sunshine positively beam with joy. It was just the kind of positive news that she needed to help her in her own recovery.
"Wow, I mean just.... wow. I knew you and Riku had been dating for awhile but I didn't have a clue that he proposed to you! Mind giving me the details?"
Anna wasn't trying to be noisy or gossipy, she was simply relieved and happy to know that Sunshine had forgiven her and wanted to learn what had been going on in her life since..... the serum incident.

Sunshine turned bright pink. Just thinking about the whole day made her bean. It just seemed like yesterday she was lining to him from afar, having no idea if he thought she existed. She turned the ring a quarter on her hand, the sun motif glistening.
“Well, he took me to Placid Lagoon. We both had days off. He drove, packed a lunch, the whole innocent she-bang. As we set up, he asked me to find the bottle opener. As I grabbed it, something went flying. He looked worried as it did, and then he looked at me. He said that he loved me, got down on his knee...and he asked if I wanted to be part of, the light of the Lafayette family.”

Anna could feel the smile on her face growing in size and strength as Sunshine spoke about the proposal, her own lingering sadness not able to withstand the pure joy radiating out from her friend. In her mind she could picture Riku and Sunshine standing on the edge of the beach at the lagoon, her reaction upon discovering the ring, the moment when he got down on his knee and asked her the big question. Heck, to say she was happy for Sunshine was a huge understatement. She was simply overjoyed!
"Oh, it sounds so perfect, Sunshine! I just can't believe it took me this long to hear about this!"
And completely caught up in the moment, Anna reached forward and took Sunshine's hands lightly into her own, giving them a soft squeeze as she smiled a smile that hadn't appeared for a long time.
