The guy didn't seem interested which was fine. Omar wasn't about to push. "If it's just a hobby that's cool too" he said easily. "Nicely met, Manolo" he nodded to Shadow. "You got medical experience, Manolo? You seemed pretty ready to help Shadow. Not everyone is always ready to do that to someone they don't know" Omar was pretty admiring of that trait when it was in other people. Omar sipped his drink and watched the two closely.

Manolo nodded and shook Shadow's hand but the slightly concerned look didn't leave his eyes. Shadow might act like it was nothing but the young guitarist could see the sweat on his forehead and felt the slightest tremor in his hand as they shook.
However, his focus was diverted when Omar asked if he had any medical experience and he slightly jerked his head by reflex. It had been a long time since he had thought of himself as a healer and yet it was clear from the way he had reacted to Shadow's episode that the curandero he had been training to become wasn't completely gone. Omar's words had reminded him of his past and brought back a pain he tried to keep buried but he didn't want the Troll or the hedgehog Other to know that. So he put on a smile like he always did and tried to speak lightly.
"Some, but it's been a long time since I've used it. Mostly I focus on my guitar skills now and some other.... hobbies. Heck, gotta keep myself entertained."

Was Shadow still shaking? And at unease? He hadn't felt this on edge in a long time. The wedding of Sunshine had started it, maybe. He kept the focus off of that. No, no, instead he had to stay in a social interaction. It would keep Disparion at bay. Hopefully. The conversation was adjusting to what he assumed, was talk of healing.
"My friend Sunshine is a healer, too," he told Manolo, "but I don't think you can pull off the...Seddon gold locks."
A look was on the young musician's face that Shadow recognized. Pain. The reflexing head jolt wasn't just a weird twitch. Something had been going on inside his head and didn't come out. The more interesting part was the pause among hobbies. But he didn't want to make it a big deal. At least, not if Manolo was honest.

Omar noticed the look of pain. Manolo was obviously upset and covering it up. That was annoying. Trolls were always honest about who they were and what was going on. Omar didn't like the human trait of covering up what one was feeling and why. What was the use? it was just unhealthy. He felt like confronting Manolo about it, but perhaps now wasn't the time. He let it go. "Heh, Sunshine can heal just by wrapping someone in hair and singing. There's not many who can pull that off" he said to Shadow with a chuckle. Omar turned to Manolo. "So if you don't heal or I presume you don't work as one, and certainly not in the hospital, what do you do to support yourself?" Omar didn't really need to do any job; he'd amassed enough money over the centuries to survive in relative comfort for a good long time. He just liked keeping himself busy.

For a time Omar and Shadow talked about another healer they both knew by the name of Sunshine. And when Omar explained that the friend they spoke of could heal with her hair, Manolo couldn't help but raise an eyebrow but didn't say anything. As strange as it sounded, it wasn't the weirdest thing by far that the Mexican youth had heard of or seen. However, soon enough Omar was asking him questions about his life that weren't easy to answer.
"Odds and ends sort of things. Play a music gig here and there, help out at the family shop other times. Whatever strikes my fancy."
He gave a shrug before picking up his guitar from where he had leaned it against the wall and slinging it over his back, careful to make sure he didn't hit any of the other people in the bar as they passed.
"What about you guys? I mean, you've made it pretty clear you're a musician but I don't think you said what it is you do."
Manolo pointed to Omar and then Shadow, glad to have steered the conversation onto the two of them. While he was fairly good at avoiding difficult questions, these two seemed to pick up on the fact that he was hiding something. And while he doubted they had a clue as to what he really did 'to support himself' he didn't want any cause any kind of suspicion.

Shadow was too mentally exhausted to carry on this conversation. Let the musicians bond over love of music and making ends meet. He was here to numb pain, not compare bank salaries on how and when people got by. It was their business alone and he had no warrant to search for answers about it. He didn't have any family like them. He had no one.
And it was just going to be that way.
He slumped back into the chair, glaring at the ice in his drink.
"You could say I'm a monster hunter. Vampires, werewolves, demons...Universal's made more than enough movies."

Omar grimaced. "Servant is putting my technical job nicely" he said darkly. "But I've been many things over the centuries. Blacksmith, pirate, sheriff, currently a musician. I've made so much during my life doing other things I don't need to work, really. But I give to charity, and live simply. I'm not interested in being excessive with how I live" he gave an easy going smile and a light shrug. "I have a little plot of land just past the bayou. It's an orchard. I sell enough to last through most of the year, so I guess I'm a farmer? Possibly? I don't know. But your family has a shop? what's it called, maybe I've been" Omar looked over at Shadow, concerned. "If you're so worked up about Sunshine and Riku, maybe go to them and tell them why you think it's a bad idea?" he said quietly. "You need to be honest and let it out, whatever it is. Be a little troll-like, okay?"

Manolo couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as each of them spoke of their jobs. From the way Shadow spoke, he sounded like maybe he was a bounty hunter who specialized in Others. And Omar seemed to have had any number of careers over his long lifetime. He might have asked to hear more about what they each did in their current lines of work, but he was cut off when Omar asked about his family's shop.
The young man rubbed at the back of his neck, feeling both equal parts fondness, resentment and guilt. While he loved his family dearly and helped them where he could, his relationship with them was rocky at best. No surprise given that they knew at least some part of his abandoning his training as a curandero and his moonlighting as a thief. However, he wasn't the type to be open about his life with anyone, let alone strangers he had just met and Omar's words made him feel more uptight and annoyed than reassured.
"The shop's called Corazón de Oro. And its nothing you need to concern yourself about."
There was a certain sharpness to Manolo's words and a stiffening of his shoulders that made it clear that whatever was on his mind wasn't open to discussion.

A cloud passed over Shadow’s face. Why was it that everyone assumed he was ticked about the wedding? He wasn’t mad. Not about that. He wasn’t going to ruin Sunshine's happiness. “For the last time,” he muttered, “I’m not angry about the wedding. On the contrary. I’m happy for them. Sunshine and Riku equally make each other happy. What I’m mad about is...” Anger have way to shame. He was happy the amount of rage hadn’t become a calling card to Hell itself. He had kept it at bay. For now. “...I’m mad because for once, I’m not sure what the next part is.”

Omar gave a look of pity and gently touched a non spiky part of Shadow's shoulder and nodded. "I'm sorry. That has to be...awful" he admitted softly. "Maybe you need to talk to her about this anyway? So you can at least plan what to do next and where you both stand" Omar looked quizzically at Manolo for snapping at him. "Easy buddy" he said mildly. "I've seen it, but I can't remember if I ever went in" that was a lie. He had for a healer once upon a time, but she'd been ill so he left some well wishes, extra money he'd had on him, and had been on his way. That must have been someone close to Manolo and with how he was acting, Omar felt it better not to mention that. Omar took a long drink and sighed. "Namine is getting her adoption to me finalized tonight" he said quietly. "I'm really happy but a little sad. She's only human, it's the sadness of knowing I'm going to lose her to time"

Clearly Manolo wasn't the only one in a piss poor mood at the moment. Shadow himself responded rather angrily to Omar's words, his posture both tense yet at the same time dejected. And even though he didn't know anything about the guy, Manolo gathered from what was said that a close friend of his was getting married and he wasn't sure what course his own life was going to take. To a degree the young curendero could relate. Heck, part of the reason he and his family butted heads so much was because of the path he was taking in his life.
As his father often said, he was just wandering aimlessly without purpose. Carlos Sanchez was a hard man but not unfair and despite their disagreements Manolo could tell his father just wanted him to find a path in life that would make him happy. He wanted him to move beyond the hurts of his past and start living for the future. However, the young guitarist simply couldn't do it, not when he still carried so much sadness in his heart.... and anger.
"Yeah, not surprised. We mostly sell things imported from Mexico. Not really the type of stuff a Troll would care about generally."
Despite his lingering bad feelings, Manolo forced his tone into something less hostile. After all, it wasn't Omar's fault. He was just trying to start a conversation.

“Mexico, huh? Not too many people from there in this part of town.”
Despite the passive aggressive way Manolo mentioned his Home country, Shadow tried to be the peacekeeper. It was a position Sunshine had fallen in, but now he had to be level headed. He swigged his Black Russian, letting the coffee flavor remind him of his real job. Kahlua was different than a Nevermore coffee, but the taste gave him the pleasantry of the one thing going right in his life; his job.
“And good Namine ended up with a reliable parent,” he nodded to Omar. “Better than the scum she was living with.”

Omar bit back several comments with difficulty. This kid was going to end up with a much less pretty face in a few minutes if he didn't stop trying to make jabs at Omar. "Mexico is lovely this time of year" was all he said in a mild tone. "I especially love Todos Santos, the ocean is so very blue, and the buildings, ah, picturesque" He turned his attention back to Shadow and nodded. "Namine didn't deserve an absentee mother and a drunkard father" he said a bit bitterly. "But she's safe now and she's loved. It's a blessing Jane loves her too. they will make great sisters"

"I wouldn't know. My parents didn't have me until after they moved to Bellerouge and I've never been to Mexico."
Manolo didn't bother going into much detail with either Shadow or Omar. In fact despite the fact that both of them seemed like pretty ok guys, he was done with talking for the night. One look at the clock that hung over the bar was enough to confirm it for the musician.
"Looks like I gotta dash but maybe I'll see you two chichos around."
As he spoke, Manolo adjusted the shoulder straps of his guitar and finished off the last of his beer.

Well the musician was dashing. Shadow took a swig of his drink. “Apologies for the meet up being so awkward, Manolo. Take care.” The guitarist adjusted the strings, and the cop could relax. Omar was here, someone he genuinely trusted. He settled back with a visible sigh. “So, Good to hear Jane has a sibling figure...” ((End thread?))
