How did Anna keep up so much energy? Was there a battery pack in her at all times? Her enthusiasm and excitement for things on a good day was contagious. With a girlish laugh, Elsa followed Anna with a laugh. The vendors and games were in a sea of tents. Some of the prizes being won were exactly the same while others tended to mix it up. Anna was on the hunt, so Elsa had to canter to catch up with her.
The prize was highlighted by a squeal, and Elsa was behind her, panting. Thank God she wore sandals as opposed to kitten heels or her usual work wear. That would have been a cause for a blister if there ever was one. It was a simple knock-em-down. Elsa couldn't stop the smile spreading to her face. If Ralph were playing, he would have knocked them down in a flash and bagged her one of the larger prizes. Probably knocked over the tent too, if he had used his full strength. But how would Anna do? The vendor slid over with a toothy grin so wide, she thought he was a cartoon character.
"Well, leave the throwing to her," she gestured to Anna, "she's got quite the arm."

"Just the one? Well, that's just fine! I take it you already know the rules then, sweetie?"
The man continued to grin, looking for the world as if he were trying to show off all of his teeth as he turned his attention from Elsa to Anna. Anna gave an enthusiastic nod of her head before digging in her pocket and pulling out a small wad of bills and handing them over to the toothy vendor.
"Three balls please!"
With is smile still in place, the man put the money in a cash box before handing Anna three rubber balls somewhat smaller then baseballs. He then made a large motion towards the shelves and the carnival prizes that stood there.
"Go right ahead, sweetheart! Whatever you knock off the shelf, you keep!"
Anna nodded before smiling over her shoulder at Elsa. The expression on her face was one of complete confidence.
"Watch this!"
And with that, the carefree, happy expression disappeared and was replaced by a hard, calculating and focused look. She began to roll the first ball between her hands, her eyes darting around the shelves until they fixed on a single point. Her eyes narrowed slightly as drew her arm back and, sticking her tongue slightly out of her mouth, threw the ball. However, instead of hitting any prizes the ball veered hard to the side and hit the lowest shelf on the corner with a loud thud.
"Oh, no go on that one, sweetie! You still have two more balls though. Give it another shot!"
The booth man tried to fake a look of disappointment yet the toothy smile never changed on his face. However, the medical examiner didn't look frustrated or upset or even mildly disappointed. No, if anything the expression on her face had only intensified as she picked up the second ball and prepared to throw again.
Anna knew this kind of game was rigged, that the prizes had weights either concealed behind them or inside them to ensure nothing fell and that the balls were hollow inside, making them have little impact or force even with a direct hit. However, she also had noticed something about the shelves the prizes sat on and had an idea in mind....

“You got this, Anna!” Elsa cheered.
Observing was usually what she did in events like these. It gave her a chance to look for possible lawsuits should any arise. Games like these were prone to rigging so people would get away with money. Anna was smart, though, smiling widely and arcing the ball on purpose to miss the first shot. It would take a good time strike for the toothy man to show a sign of weakness in this structure. Elsa was just enjoying the show.

With Elsa cheering her on, Anna drew her arm back before throwing the second ball hard. Once again, it missed any of the prizes and hit the same lower shelf corner.
"Oh, so close! You know what they say, third time's the charm."
The grinning vendor stood to the side and continued to watch as Anna picked up her last ball. Clearly he thought she couldn't throw worth a damn, she could read it in his eyes even if his grin never faltered. However, she only smiled back at him as she twirled the ball in her hand and prepared for her final throw. He thought she was just like any other person who was cheated by his game, that he could cheat her out of her money without having to give even a cheap carnival toy or worry about getting into trouble. The thing was, he didn't know the kind of person she was.
"Hey Elsa! Once I win my prizes, you can pick one out and give it to Ralph. My treat!"
And with a look of utter confidence on her face, Anna drew back her arm holding the final ball and let it fly with all the strength she had. The ball flew threw the air.... and hit the same shelf corner before falling to the ground and rolling away.
"OH, so sorry but looks like you didn't knock anything down, sweetie!"
The vendor shook his head and picked up the ball. And in his eyes Anna could tell he thought she was an even bigger fool than his usual customers. However, she merely smiled widely back at him before holding up a single finger in pause.
"Just a mo. I'm about to win my prizes."
The vendor just shook his head again and opened his mouth to speak. However, a groaning sound from behind him cut him off. A small frown appeared on his face as he turned to look behind him. He hadn't been paying attention to where Anna's balls had been striking before now but she had. Sticking out of the lowest shelf was a single somewhat rusted nail from which the groaning was coming from. As they all watched, the groaning abruptly grew louder before the old, splintered wood around the nail gave out. Suddenly, the shelf broke and fell, dumping its lower contents onto the ground. However, it didn't stop there. The nail had also held in place the wooden supports to the upper shelves and without it the other shelves all began to lean forward, showering the prizes from every single tier onto the ground around the vendor's feet.
The vendor's smile had disappeared now and been replaced with a dropped jaw, his eyes popping out slightly from his head as he looked at his now empty shelves where a moment ago an assortment of prizes had stood. Anna, on the other hand, merely clapped her hands together once before speaking to the man over the sounds of the carnival around them, a beam on her face.
"Well, looks like I get them all! After all, whatever I knock off the shelf I keep, right?"

Elsa couldn’t decide what was worth the biggest smile. Was it Anna’s incredible analyzing of the game? Was it the look on the vendor’s face seeing his “full-proof” plan get tossed asunder? Or was it the delight of Anna getting all the plushies off the shelf and into a clutter on the ground. Anna said she could take her pick, so the lawyer ran over to see the winnings.
A scruffy brown teddy bear caught her eye. That was an animal she always associated with Ralph. He could be so clumsy and big, but also loving and protective. It was perfect.
“I’ll take that one,” Elsa pointed to her prize, batting her eyes playfully.
