"Yeah."
There was something mildly comforting about just sitting and chatting about his boss to someone who wasn't a co-worker. Probably because he also understood Jane's prejudice. Yet, something about how she went to him despite her annoyance was comforting. But there was another thing about Jane that he was beginning to realize. Even in his spiky homunculus shape, he was never judged as being something inhuman. She had always seen him as a person. That was never changing, even now as he was as something entirely new.

"So now that you have your super secret disguise what's your first mission Double-O Seven?" she teased.
With this new guise of his he could pull of just about anything. She wasn't sure what to say now. He was still Shadow. And yet, with looks like his, he could have landed himself a cushy job with Namine's brother. Except, he didn't. He still stayed a police officer. She wasn't sure if this was giving her reasons to doubt her dislike of the career he chose or not. He could be anything by starting over as his human self. Yet he stayed. He was still trying to stop the demon that attacked her.

Shadow blushed openly. Without fur to hide the flush, he must have looked ridiculous. A stubbled face completely pink from a light tease. He put a finger to his lips, playing along. “Not so loud, the demons I’m investigating will hear you!” . Well that was a clue. He had leads from the shapeshifting incidents. The question was where would this woman strike next? A few people had said she had gone after some kid. The targets were just waiting to be struck.

Jane couldn't help but laugh again. She couldn't help it. He looked so out of place and lost with this new shape of his. She wasn't going to deny she liked seeing that she had him flustered. It was always so hard to tell when he was his homunculus shape. He always seemed in control of his emotions at all times. It was times like these, she could forget what he did for a living and just focus on him as a person. That alone made her feel a little weird. But she quickly stifled any uncertainties.
"Next thing we know you'll want your drinks shaken not stirred," she remarked.

"And spend an extra ten? Nah, think I'll pass," he answered with a wave of his hand.
He took one swig from his cup before setting it down. Black liquid splashed around in the cup before settling. As he looked at it, he wondered if that was how Disparion's blood had looked. It was a gruesome thought, but he wouldn't let Jane see his discomfort. He was just glad to be in her company. Though if he said it out loud around his colleagues, Jane wouldn't be the only one laughing.

"Where's your sense of adventure?" she asked.
Though at $10 a drink, she didn't blame him. Though, even she had to admit, it was ironic that a teacher was encouraging the cop to live a little more dangerously. The most danger someone like her should see is a paper cut grading student essays or a migraine after field trip days. Yet here she was, being targeted by demons and hanging out with police officers. She took a sip of her drink as she tried not to question what had become of her life.

"It manifests itself in other ways. You've seen it before," he answered.
She had seen his adventurous side. He had gone out on the bayou to glide on the water - well, when hunting for a criminal, but that was different for leisure when he would just skate out there - which was something he would do just to get an adrenaline kick. For him, the thrill of a sport or doing something different gave him an adventurous side. He wondered if this new form would change his action regimes. Besides, he had no powers as a human. No gator hopping like that.

"Then you need to take a break from work." she said. "I don't know. Go sky diving or something."
Sure, hunting for her was relaxing but she didn't make a habit of assisting the police and catching crocodile men. Her lifestyle was calm for the most part. She didn't go out and do anything crazy on a night to night basis. She also wasn't an adrenaline junkie like Shadow appeared to be. She didn't know anyone who could live that life in a healthy sort of manner. Yet Shadow seemed to make it work.

“Is that why you’re here? Getting a break from work?” He asked it without accusation.
It would make sense. Running after third graders could be exhausting and a cup of coffee would be worth getting out. He was running out of time for things to do with what Disparion wanted with him. He wanted to take her advice and take a vacation. It wouldn’t erase the awful act he was going to do

"Ha! You'd need a coffee too after the day I've had." Jane said. "At recess one of the girls took a pair of scissors to her hair, because her parents grounded her for bad grades and wouldn't let her go to a birthday party this weekend."
It hadn't been one of her students, but Jane had been the one to delicately break the news to the parents as that student's teacher was trying to clean up the mess and contact someone they knew who could hopefully salvage the kid's head. Otherwise, they would be sporting a rather shaggy look. That didn't mean that the parents were no less furious with their child for lobbing off such long hair. All for a birthday party. They had tried to 'punish' their parents when really, they were doubly punishing themselves. The other students were trying not to laugh at her, but it was hard not to when her hair looked horrendous.

“Yikes,” he cringed. “I can’t decide what’s worse, the motive or the haircut in front of her peers.”
Scissors were one of the most polarizing school supply. People saw them as a chance for students with confused mindsets to start harm early. Others saw it as a chance for them to be independent. Shadow had seen everything and more with a pair of scissors. Haircuts were the most harmless, but it did leave a scar on a person’s mind, not to mention a wave of paranoia.

"I think we managed to save her hair. One of the secretaries has a friend who was a hair dresser." Jane explained. "She's just sporting a shorter look."
And perhaps a more extended grounding. Jane herself felt it was for the best. The girl's parents had been rightfully upset and apologetic to the teachers who had all pulled together to try to salvage the situation. The teachers were now being more cautious around the scissors and their students, making sure to collect every single one back at the end of class periods and now making sure none of their students had their own sets.
"But that's been my day. Dealing with that."

“How did the field trip go? The one you were telling me about?” Shadow asked.
Most cops found something like that an extra security pain. But Shadow wanted to hear how Jane handked the kids. She was a good teacher, ensuring kids were safe and well educated. And well cared for. He was also wanting to see that natural enthusiasm light up her face. Was it...bad to think he found it attractive?

"They had so much fun," she said. "I think one of our smoothest trips yet."
There hadn't even been a hiccup at all. The students were well behaved. Their lunch went over well. The parents were helpful. The buses were on time. The tour guide was kind and patient with the entire group. It wasn't always like that. So she decided to chalk it up as a win. She just wanted to make sure the kids had fun. Her spare lunches even went over well. The kids enjoyed what she had made, sharing it among themselves.

“Perfect,” he grinned.
There it was, the glimmer of delight in her eyes. Perfect field trip meant everything was fine. No misbehaving guests, tour guide who were respectful to the kids...and the teacher too no doubt. It was enough for him to keep staring. She was beaming. Absolutely beaming. He was pretty sure he was blushing looking at her.
