"I don't think I've ever seen you in action before," Adeline commented. "Real action, I mean," she added. The closest she'd come was when Axel had been teaching her some basic self defense, like how to throw a decent punch. She'd come a long way from then, and knew how to better use all the power she had. Of course, she was sure Axel was still way better than her. She wondered what seeing him fight was like. She knew Yang also had literal fire power to use. Was Axel's sort of the same thing?

"Just a bunch of sparks." Axel shrugged.
More like 'if you couldn't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen'. Some fire demons like him could make flames so hot they could handle touching lava. Axel himself probably needed to restore his own fires by going somewhere hot but he couldn't abandon the city. Not when they were still on their way to recovery. Too many people like Adeline counted on him to be there.

Axel talked casually, but Adeline felt like there was more to his fire than just a few sparks. She wondered how powerful he could get if he really pushed himself. Adeline already knew what she herself was capable of. With her demon side in charge and power from Pitch's necklace flowing through her, she'd ripped Ariel's heart out and crushed it with her bare hands. And while the memory had made her stomach turn in the past, it didn't bother her as much as it used to. She'd killed Ariel in a horrible way, but in the end, she'd done what she'd needed to do to protect herself, and her loved ones as well. Seeing so many people working together and trying to protect each other during the apocalypse had made her see things a bit differently. "Guess I know I can count on you if I need help in a pinch," she said. "And you can count on me too. Okay?" Shouldering stuff all on your own was never easy. Adeline knew that much. Offering to help was the best thing a friend like her could do right now.

Axel debated declining. But Adeline seemed insistent that he know. So he grinned and nodded. He would much rather not get her involved with more demons, but if she had to, then he supposed he wasn't entirely the worst demon she could befriend. He kept his nose clean. He stayed out of trouble for the most part. Really it was humans that tended to get themselves into more trouble than he did. Like Anna and that 'medicine' she tried to create that nearly took her life and her job.
"Of course kid." he agreed. "I'll call on you right away if I need you."

Adeline smiled, glad to know that Axel would count on her if he could. That was all she wanted to be really: someone her friends could come to if they had a problem or if they were hurt. Adeline knew she wasn't the greatest fighter in the world, and she wasn't the wisest person either. But she wanted to do what she could to help. "Did everyone else you know make it out okay?" she asked. She knew Axel had a girlfriend in the city, although she'd never met her. Hopefully, she hadn't gotten hurt or anything.

"I haven't managed to check on Anna," Axel said before quickly adding. "Or Shadow, but he's kind of going to have a stream of visitors for a while."
Anna far more than that and he had asked her out on a few dates. He even broke his 'no fire' rule for her when some drunks tried to take advantage of her behind his bar. He chased her down half the city when her own serum threatened to kill her. But he wasn't about to go around blabbing that to just anyone. Not until he was certain Anna wanted people to know. Not everyone took kindly to a demon dating outside of their own species. He doubted Adeline would care. If anything, the kid was one of his better friends. He just didn't want anyone lingering in the cemetery to blab to the wrong people.

"I'm sure they're okay," Adeline said reassuringly. If Anna was hardy enough to win Axel's heart, Adeline was sure she survived this. As for Shadow, Adeline had never met the guy personally. She'd heard quite a lot of talk about him though. Some people saw him as scary and serious. But she'd heard Yang talk about him too, and she thought the world of him. It was hard to tell which side of him was the real one. Pitch had only mentioned him once or twice, and there hadn't been any fondness in his voice. Adeline wondered if there was beef between them or something.

"I'm sure they're fine. But what about you? How'd you and your folks manage?"
Adeline appeared to be unharmed but there were other injuries that weren't always visible. Like if she had to kill. It was never ever easy. No matter how many times you did it. Even Axel had a long fight against his own kin. If they hadn't hated him for being a 'human loving lava pit' then they would really hate him now. He had defended humans from his own kind. Perhaps that made him stupid. Humans were weak fragile creatures with limited lifespans. But he supposed that's why he liked them so much. They lived life to the fullest despite having such a short period of time to live it.

"We did okay," Adeline replied. "Really, the worst we got were some bruises and scratches. Nothing major." Adeline knew she should consider herself lucky that she and her parents hadn't gotten anything worse. Lucky for the three of them, they were more than adapt at using magic to defend themselves. And sometimes, fighting wasn't even necessary. If they put a few defensive spells on someone's home, that was sometimes enough to keep any demons away. The only tricky part had been putting up spells to defend their own home that wouldn't affect Adeline as well. Adeline's parents hadn't wanted any anti-demon spells hurting their daughter as well.

Axel laughed deeply. "That's a relief."
He had been worried for her. But because it had only been him protecting the bar, he couldn't have ventured far. It was, after all, his territory. His presence alone kept lesser demons away. Other demons, however, took it as a challenge. They tried to assert dominance only to be burned to ash. Axel had to be careful because he had wanted to avoid property damage and loss of innocent lives.

Adeline smiled back. "I think we'll be okay," she said. "All of us, I mean. Everyone in this city. I mean, we've bounced back from other stuff before. This was a little bit worse, but I think if we have some time, we can get this city going again like we used to." Some things would probably never be the same, but Adeline knew it was foolish to wish that everything could go back to exactly the way it was before. People had lost homes and loved ones, and it was hard to move on from that sort of thing. But Adeline had seen Bellerouge pull itself together before after a crisis. She felt like the same could happen again with enough time and effort.

"It's why I like you humans so much." Axel said. "We knock you down and you get right back up."
He wasn't proud of his kind or their part in what they did to the city he called home. But among Demons, he was a black sheep anyways. He preferred the humans. He stood up for them and fought for them. He never truly fit in among his kind. He didn't regret it either. Humans were fascinating creatures. Even if they were very short lived.

((Wanna start wrapping this thread up?))
"We certainly are a tenacious bunch of people," Adeline said with a laugh. At least that human part of her never went away. Despite everything, she'd still managed to keep a grip on her old self and some of the things that made her a person. Sure, her demon side tended to amplify her anger and fear. But she could still love and care for those around her. And whenever something big hit her, she managed to come back from it. Even Ariel's death at her own hands, which had made her hate herself for some time, had been put behind her. She'd seen how hard people had fought to protect themselves and those they loved during the apocalypse, and she didn't want to shame herself for doing the same.

((Sure thing.))
"You sure are... But let's not test the theory by angering your parents," he said. "I've kept you long enough and now is not the time to test curfews."
Besides, she was off with a dark and strange man. What would they possibly think? Nothing good, that's for sure. He did not want her parents showing up at the bar, accusing him of leading their daughter astray. Or being the unsavory sort. Though it would be amusing for him to say the least. He would get to see if Adeline's fire came from her parents or if she had developed the determination on her own

Adeline glanced up. She hadn't even realized that it was getting late. And Axel did have a point. Normally, her parents wouldn't mind her being out after dark. But there were still some monsters left over from the apocalypse that were running around, and being out at night was practically an invitation to get attacked by them. "Guess I better be heading home then," she said. "Take care, okay?" She gave a wave and a smile before heading off. Even though Pitch was still no where to be found, at least Axel was okay. Adeline had to take some comfort in that.
((End thread?))
