"It's hard to ignore sound advice." Aqua replied faux sagely.
But she was being honest. Shadow offered good advice. It was solid, sound and normally yielded good results. Plus, Shadow wouldn't be the type to go "I told you so" when you proved that he was right in the first place. He was a kinder soul than that. He understood people better than most people. Shadow was... good people. Aqua only felt bad she was really acknowledging the fact now.

Shadow rubbed the back of his neck nervously. The voice she used whenever she was teasing was a strange parody of whenever Seelie were mocking humans for being dumb. Her time amongst them was probably starting to wear on her, and he was only now beginning to take notice of it. Now a part of him felt bad for not talking with her outside of their first meeting punching in the training yard. There had also been the charity food drive, which was something he hadn't done since the apocalypse.

"Relax, it was a joke. I can do that." she said. "Believe it or not."
Shadow looked completely out of place with her statement. She hadn't meant it seriously. Just that Shadow was a very sound person to listen to. But she must have come off as too uppity when she had teased him. She would have to work on that later. To make sure that she wasn't offending anyone on accident.

"No, you, making jokes?" he said sarcastically.
Apparently the end of the world had been bringing out the best of people in a lot of ways. Aqua was now making witty remarks that showed in her intelligence. Not that he found her dumb to begin with, she was wise and it wasn't because of the Seelie heritage, but she was not afraid to show the sassier side.

"I blame dating Omar." she said.
Omar had been both a mostly positive experience. If anything he helped her figure herself out. And she had to develop some of her backbone back when dealing with him and Jane. They were quite... fearsome when they were determined about something. Namely it had been Aqua's social life, or lack thereof. They pushed her, sometimes hard, to make better choices, to do better for herself.
"But at least I'm not starting bar fights."

Shadow managed a laugh. Oh, the irony. He had met Omar for bailing him out of a fight, and now here and Aqua were, sitting in a bar and discussing, lovingly, how they were somehow getting in and out of his life in different ways. Aqua in a bar fight? She was nimble and would have more of an evasion tactic. He had seen hpw she handled cop chases. Avoid, evade, but then go in when they weren't paying attention. Something he knew too well.

"I wouldn't even know what to do in a bar fight," Aqua admitted.
She would probably try to quell a crowd or find a peaceful route to stop the fight from happening in the first place. If anyone would be a fierce sight in a bar fight it would be Shadow. He was so fast that whoever tried to fight him wouldn't even know what hit them. The very thought seemed laughable. Almost like imagining Namine going through a goth phase.
"Nor do I care to learn."

"It's one of those experiences where we're forced to learn, unfortunately. Just like crowd control."
He knew there were different temperaments when it came to, how some people put it, dipped the sauce. Some would slouch over in tears, some would let their emotions do the talking. Usually, the ones that involved getting physical. Shadow had been dragged into many a bar fight that way. A tiny part of him thought the best one was fighting two of Cruella D'enfer's "girls" in Mina. All because he had accidentally scooted his chair onto her heel.

"I hope not! I have no need to learn how to fight in a bar." Aqua assured him.
She didn't normally frequent the establishments. She only had because it was Omar's preferred place to be. No, sign her up for a library and a quiet area any day. Somewhere comfortable, cozy and without much noise. In fact, after she finished her drink, she doubted she would be coming back to a bar much after this. She had no need to anymore. She certainly didn't want anyone to think that she was still pining for Omar, though her heart still stung.

"You're a smart woman. No one would dare mess with you. You'd just outsmart them, like you always do," Shadow reassured her.
In all joking aside, Aqua was some of the smartest cops in the field. Perhaps the reason she was oblivious, as people often accused her of being, was because she chose to think with her head versus her heart. He was impressed that her street smarts were growing. They would never be as strong as her book smarts, though.

"Now you're being dramatic. Plenty of people try to mess with me simply because I'm a cop," she said. "I wouldn't have a job otherwise."
Like Vanitas. She was still no closer to catching Terra's killer. She had him cornered and squared away before he broke out. It was absolutely infuriating. Omar had told her to let it go, but she just couldn't. She didn't have his centuries of experience with such a matter. She was a fighter. Yes, she had broken slightly after the loss, but now she knew she couldn't just lay down and let life pass her by.

“And that you’re an other. Which is stupid. You could trap them in a water bubble if you wanted.”
He had seen the strong side to Aqua. Most saw her as just a pretty face and simply the word “faerie” painted her as demure and sweet. No, there was a side to her they ignored entirely. The side that had her trust tested and her heart broken. She was like a figurine made of porcelain that was repainted. The cracks would be there, but in a strange way it showed her endurance. Part of him wanted to ask about catching Vanitas, but the fear of ripping the bandaids was great. He had accidentally done it once.
