"I shouldn't have said that. It's not a widely known thing" He said, feeling especially sorry for the troll now, and himself because he had to explain this. "Just a few of his more dedicated fans know ,and obviously his band. Just forget I said anything, there's not much we can do about his case" He ate some of the fries and sighed happily. They were hot and so good. He had never really had fast food that often, but if it was all like this, he would totally eat more in the future. He was really looking forward too the omelette now.

"That's not necessarily true," Aqua admitted. "We could always reopen it."
She did wonder how Riku knew that. Was he close to Omar? A fan? A friend? It could prove to be interesting if they had to arrest the singer again. Aqua hoped they wouldn't have to. She just wished they had nailed Vanitas for starting the fight, but with that lawyer of his. Aqua started eating a bit more as well. Her usual turned out to be a bacon cheeseburger topped with chili, garlic fries and a banana milkshake.
"You probably don't want to talk about work at the table though," she said.

"Do you think that's a good idea though? It's been ten years and we don't have a fresh crime scene. We only have evidence collected. And getting Omar's hopes up only to dash them would be cruel" Riku loved the crusty old troll's music and admired the guy as a person. He doubted they would ever get along what with their differing views on justice, but Riku still respected the guy, all the same. He took a bite of his omelette and closed his eyes at how good it was. Because it was hella good.

"It's not like he has to know right away," Aqua said. "We'd just tell him if we did find something. Think about it, technology, criminal investigation, magic? It's all gotten better in the last decade alone! Didn't you say you wanted to do well?"
She didn't want a killer walking the streets. One already got away because they booted all Others off the case. The La Llorona killer was still out there. What if this person killed someone else? Aqua couldn't stand by and just let it happen. She and Riku could very well pick up on something the other team working the case didn't. Back then the force had been so overwhelmed because Others were popping up and out of the wood work left and right. They had their hands full, so naturally, a few cases got left in the dust.
"And if any of the higher ups ask, it's a learning exercise for you."

Riku shifted uncomfortably. "Let's wait on it. As far as we know there isn't any evidence that whoever killed his family has continued killing. I mean, it was during the war. Someone might have deemed the family a threat and killed them in a panic before running away or something. Or it could have been an accident. The problem is we don't know and I wouldn't want to hurt Omar more, you know?" Riku didn't feel comfortable working on a double homicide just yet. Sure, it would be awesome, but he doubted he was ready. "I...would rather wait till I had more experience" He said honestly.

Aqua blinked and then blushed. She had completely forgotten about Riku's inexperience in the matter. He shouldn't be pushed too far too fast. It wasn't fair to him. She supposed it would have to wait until they were asked onto the case by either the commissioner or Omar himself. The later seemed unlikely. They could reopen it if something came up to show the case in new light.
"Ah, you're probably right." She said. "Sorry for pushing it, Riku."

Riku shrugged. "No, it's fine. I 'd love to do a homicide but I think it's too fast. What if I botch it? Then I fail everyone involved. I would rather have more experience under my belt before I dare tackle a homicide, even a cold case" He smiled at her and tried some of the garlic fries. They were absolutely delicious.

Aqua's expression softened. She didn't want to burst his bubble but each 'job' was a crap shoot. It might have been called in as one thing, but it could have ended up as another. Their arrest of the drunken man could have ended in drunken disorderly and assault of an officer. A domestic situation could have become much worse by the time responding officers got there. Bank robberies could become high speed car chases. It was different every time. That's why they had to be on their toes. She smiled wearily before sipping on her own milkshake.
"Just be ready for anything in the field, okay?" she asked, not wanting to go into too much more detail, less she scare the rookie.

"Oh I know. Anything can happen. But I just want to avoid murder if I can for a little bit, is that alright?" He asked hopefully. "I want to know how I handle different stresses before I try to tackle a murder. I don't want to just jump in, you know?" He ate more fries and more of his omelette and sighed. "Thanks for taking me here, by the way. It's quaint"

"I promise not to throw you head first into anything," Aqua said. "We'll go at your pace."
She felt bad for suggesting opening the cold case. It was hard to remember her partner was a rookie. Seems she had a few other things to improve upon. But the mood was lightened and far more relaxed than earlier. She felt as if she could actually breathe. She smiled as she tried to let the tension leave her.
"I'm glad you like it." She said, absentmindedly nibbling on what was left of the fries on her plate. "It would have been a shame if you didn't like coming here! But we should probably finish up so we can get you back home. We have work tomorrow."
