After a recent foot chase gone wrong, Aqua was laid up in her apartment, nursing her foot. She was under doctor’s orders not to do anything too crazy. Hence no more foot chases and had been stuck to desk work for the whole week. The funny part was that Terra clucked over her like a worried mother hen at work. She still brought his coffee in each morning, though he insisted she didn’t have to since she was on crutches. Aqua could only laugh as he fussed over her, making sure her foot was elevated, she had an ice pack to reduce swelling, she took the medicines that the doctor gave her for the pain and when she was given something she would have to get up for, he went and did it for her instead.
She was in stitches from laughing so hard at the end of each day because they were all things Terra did not have to do for her. She had injured her foot, nothing so where she would never be able to walk again. With the way Terra acted, she had been given only a few weeks to live by the doctor. It was funny, but sweet. Aqua was certainly going to have to make it up to him when she was ‘back on her feet’ again. It would be a shame if his hair started turning white for her.
A knock at her door brought Aqua out of her thoughts. She called to the person, telling them to give her a moment and to their credit, they didn’t go banging on the door again. So she hobbled to the front door, forgoing her crutches for the time being. She peered through the peep hole to see Terra, with some flowers in hand. That was odd. He just told her that flowers made his allergies act up. The fey unlocked the door, staring at her partner in confusion. Her address was on record, so that was probably how he found it but the flowers? How strange.
"Doesn't pollen hurt your allergies?" she asked.
Terra did look quiet worse for wear, slightly red rimmed eyes and watery looking up at her. Holding the flowers so close must have been absolute torment for the poor human. She reached out and took the flowers from him. She quickly took them into the kitchen where they would be far away from him. She put them in a vase of water, stopping after words to get some allergy medicine for her romantically declined partner, who had apparently let himself in while she was putting the flowers away. She kept them out of sight, as if that would worsen Terra’s allergic reaction.
"See, next time one of the guys are on my case saying I should just be nice and bring you flowers, I’m mentioning this!" Terra raged half-heartedly.
Aqua smiled, fighting back a full on laugh. He had really gone above and beyond all expected care-taking for her this week. It was her own fault she had gotten hurt. His visit to her apartment was actually a surprise for her. She had intended to spend the weekend alone, babying her foot, but it seemed she had company whether she wanted it or not. He was just lucky she hadn’t been in any state of undress or they would have both been embarrassed. He was already removing his jacket and rubbing at his eyes. Aqua did appreciate the flowers, though absolutely unnecessary. They were actually really sweet, however, Terra had set himself up for his ego to be jabbed. Aqua wasn’t about to let that go un-needling. He would tease her back later at some point anyways.
"Are you kidding? They'd cheer me on," Aqua said.
"You're awful," Terra muttered.
Aqua had to bite back a laugh. She reached into the cabinet, fishing out some allergy tablets for her poor co-worker. She didn’t typically use them herself, but she had human guests who did use them. She kept them on hand for them. Some human medicines made her ill so she had to be careful. She wasn’t biologically made to handle them. But Terra looked quite grateful when she brought them to him along with a glass of water to chase them down with. He quickly popped the pills.
"So, I'm under the impression you're her for more than just a flower delivery..."
"Came to keep you company," he told her.
"But it's your day off." Aqua protested.
“And you’re my partner.”
That’s how the two of them ended up on her couch after they ordered out for Chinese food. The movie was based on some book that Aqua insisted was among her favorite books so they decided to watch it together. So they sat together in comfortable companionship, eating takeout with chopsticks and poking fun at the movie for its shortcomings. After the movie was over Terra looked down in surprise. Aqua was leaning fully against him. Her head was resting against his shoulder.
"Aqua?"
He looked down at her to see she was fast asleep. He was both delighted and upset because of this revelation. Numbly he fumbled for the remote. He switched the TV off and was about to try to get up when she put a hand on his chest and sleepily cuddled closer. Looks like he wasn’t going anywhere, so he leaned back against the couch, grabbing a blanket draped over the back of it and throwing it over the both of them. They were going to end up sore in the morning but nothing they could do about that.
