Watching Anna from the corner of his eyes, Jim took a few seconds to made a few adjustments to her posture. "Keep your fingers outside the trigger guard, extended straight and flat on the side of the guard." He said. He showed her what he meant.
While Jim was doing that, Dimitri put the headgear and the goggles on Anna. "Might be a good idea to have these on first." He said.

"Careful! I'm ticklish."
Anna waited patiently as Jim looked at her before offering a few changes to her current posture and position. She nodded before following Jim's advice as Dimitri put her protective glasses and headgear on.
"Alright. How's this?"
She took in a breath before pressing down on the gun's trigger and shooting once into the silence of the gun range. She felt the gun buck in her hands and couldn't help wincing slightly at the sound. The target in front of her suddenly developed a hole just on the left-side part of its chest as the bullet passed through it.
She looked at Jim and Dimitri, wondering what they would make of this less than perfect aim.

"Not to shabby." Jim said honestly. "Try again. This time try keeping both eyes open." He said with a friendly smile.

Anna nodded before taking in another calming breath through her nose and letting it out through her mouth.
She refocused her aim on the target, this time keeping both of her eyes open as Jim had instructed and widening her stance a bit more. She paused for a moment before once again pulling at the trigger. This time, her aim was true and the bullet passed directly through the center of the target's outline.
Anna started at this for a moment of silence, amazed that she had managed to hit the target dead on with just her second shot. She thought it would take multiple tries before she had gotten anywhere close to a direct hit.
"Woo Hooo!"
Anna suddenly threw her hands up in the air and jumped off of the ground, her feet leaving the floor for a moment as her excitement over this achievement propelled her into the air.
"I did it!"

At Anna's joyful out burst Jim and Dimitri's smiles faded as they watched the gun in her hands. The chances of the gun accidentally firing were fifty-fifty, but the brothers would rather not risk it. Jim who was closer to Anna, grabbed the wrist of the hand that held the gun. "Easy there Anna." He said gently taking the gun from her. "I know you're excited, and so are we, that you hit the target on your second shot. But let's put the gun down before we get too excited, alight?"
"Yeah we don't want it to go off, have it ricochet, and possibly hit one of us." Dimitri said which earned him a dirty look from his younger brother. "What? It's true."

Anna's joy came to a screeching halt when Jim suddenly grabbed her arm and removed the gun from her grasp. In her happiness, she hadn't realized she had still been holding the weapon as she jumped up and down in excitement. She could feel the color coming up into her cheeks at this dangerous and frankly childish mistake and looked at the Colt brothers with embarrassment.
"Oops. I'm sorry."
When Dimitri then commented on how she could have possibly hit one of them, she dropped her gaze to the floor and knew that her face must be as bright red as a sunset. They must of thought she was nothing but a child and a foolish one at that for acting so carelessly with the gun, even if it was for just a moment.

Jim went over to his brother and punched him. Hard. "Be nice. She just got excited." Having said that he returned to Anna. "Ignore him. The gun didn't go off, and no one got hurt. No harm no foul." He said with a friendly smile. "Do you want to try again? See if you can hit the target again?" He asked hoping to get Anna to bounce back from the mistake.

"Uh, sure. Ok."
Anna still felt the heat in her face but wasn't the kind of person to feel sorry for herself very long. Instead, she took the gun into her hands again and returned to her shooting space. She looked down the length of the space at the new target that had taken the old ones place before returning to the stance she had just been taught by the Colt brothers.
She adjusted herself slightly before poking out her tongue in concentration as she looked down the barrel. She paused for a few more seconds before pulling the trigger. The gun went off several times and holes appeared in the target's body once more. None of them hit dead center as the first had, but they all fell well within passing range for the examine.
"Huh, well at least I know I'll pass now."
She lowered the gun and looked at the target, reminding herself not to jump up and down with the gun in hand again. If she did THAT during the exam, she would be taking gun safety classes until she was old enough to retire from the BPD. And as embarrassing as it had been to do it in front of Jim and Dimitri, at least they weren't testing her.

"Yeah." Jim said. "You know if you wanted I could give you lessons. So you can get better and maybe not be so nervous around them. I'll even make sure Dimitri isn't around."
"Hey!" Dimitri protested.

Anna gave a little snort at Jim's joke and Dimitri's outrage. However, she took a moment as she thought over the offer that Jim had just made her. She had learned the basics already just from today and that would be enough to see her through the exam. However, the exam was also not until next week and this gave her an opportunity to finally gain some comfort working with a gun.
Not that she would ever feel completely comfortable handling such a weapon, but she honestly believed that when it came to firearms it was far better to be cautious then overly careless. Her one moment of forgetfulness only a few minutes ago proved that to her.
"Well, the exam isn't until next week and I could always use a good teacher.....so yeah."
She nodded her head and smiled at the Colt brothers.

"Great." Jim said with a huge smile. He knew that Anna had a lot to learn, but she also had potential. He knew that DImitri saw it too, despite his jokes.
