Weiss rolled her eyes. It seemed like the local news was talking about the capture of the La Llorona killer quite a bit. There were updates constantly on the news app on her phone. While she was glad that a killer was off the streets, any mention of the police made her think of her brother, and that never failed to make her feel angry and sad. A breeze blew as she sipped her iced coffee. Ever since it had gotten warm, the Nevermore Coffeehouse and Bakery had opened its outdoor patios. For the moment, Weiss happened to be the only person seated outside. Given how she was feeling though, she considered that a good thing. Solitude had never bothered her before. At least, that was what she kept telling herself.

Riku felt quite proud of himself. If it hadn’t been for his voodoo expertise they probably would still be searching for a way for his department to catch the perp. He did feel bad for her, he really did, now that he knew her story, but it was still good that she was off the streets. Great, even. Absolutely fantastic. In fact, he decided to get a congratulatory coffee, and while he would have preferred grabbing it with his partner, Aqua was busy with personal things. He was coming out of the coffeeshop when he spotted his sister. He stopped and felt like someone had punched him in the stomach. He didn’t like admitting it, but he missed his sister. Maybe most of all about his past life. “Weiss....”

Weiss's phone tightened around her phone screen at the sound of that voice. It brought up a whole torrent of confusing emotions that she really didn't want to deal with right now. Still, she looked up to see that her brother was looking at her, almost as if he was surprised to see her. "Riku," she replied, her tone harsh and her eyes cold. "Come to gloat over your victory?" She waved her phone, where the big headline on the La Llorona killer could be seen.

"Gloating's not my thing and you know it" He told her tightly. "Besides, why on earth would I track down my little sister-whom I'm not supposed to talk to-just to gloat on a victory of the police in solving the identity of a serial killer and putting her behind bars?" He snorted and rolled his eyes. "I didn't even do that much. Shadow and Sunshine actually caught her"

Weiss snorted. "Shadow? Sunshine? Jeez, how do people come up with these stupid names?" she muttered. That was like naming herself "White." Granted, that was what her name meant, but "Weiss" sounded much prettier in her mind, and more regal. "I'm surprised you took the back seat in this case," she said. "You were always such a star voodoo pupil. Always in the spotlight." That practically came with the territory of being a LaFayette. You were always the center of attention. Personally, Weiss loved it. She was extraordinary in several areas. Why not show it off so people could see?

"Where do people come up with 'Ice queen' when they talk about you? He shot back. "Hey, I helped identify the substance used to get the kids. That was enough for me. Unlike you I've never liked the spotlight" One of the other reasons he had turned his back on his family without a second thought. "It's enough for me that the woman is where she needs to be. I didn't need to steal the show" He snorted. "Enjoying all the attention now that I'm gone then?" He missed her, a lot, but if she was going to act so snippy he would react in kind.

Weiss rolled her eyes. Typical Riku, always trying to act so pious and perfect. Would it kill him to admit that he was no different from the rest of the family in some ways? He could try to distance himself from them all he wanted, but he was still a LaFayette. He wasn't about to get rid of his last name anytime soon. "I am, actually," she replied with a smile. "I'm practically the golden child after everything you pulled." Of course, she wasn't about to admit that she missed having her big brother around. Things were more lonely, now that he wasn't around to keep her company when their parents were away. But, any mushy thoughts like that were pushed aside. She wasn't about to get sentimental over him.

"Good. I never really wanted the spotlight, anyway" He sighed and looked at his sister. "How are you doing, Weiss? I really am concerned" for her, only. He could care less about his parents but he and Weiss had always been close and he did feel bad about leaving her behind. But he'd had no choice. It was either following his dreams or becoming a puppet for his parents, and that was no choice at all really.

Weiss bit her lip. Riku was using that "concerned tone" again. It was one he used frequently over the years whenever he was worried about her. She didn't see why he cared about her now, though. He had left her behind. Why should it matter to him how he was doing? "I'm fine," she replied coldly. "Things are the same...if a bit quieter." Now that Riku wasn't here to butt heads with her parents, there was less fighting, and less noise.

"You don't sound fine Weiss" Riku shot back sternly. "You sound closed off. Are you getting enough sleep, talking to enough people? Weiss are you socializing with anyone or are you closing yourself off?" She had a little bit of a problem shutting people out and Riku had tried to help her with that when they were still on friendly terms. When he wasn't shut out from the family. "I'm sorry if things are quieter"

"Why do you care?" Weiss snapped. "It's my social life. I'll do what I want with it." She started scrolling through the news feed on her phone again, as if it had the power to take her away from this conversation. "Don't you have your cop friends to fuss over now?" she asked.

"I care because you're my sister" He snapped back. She had always had this trouble, and some trust issues it seemed to him. "You need friends Weiss, nobody can get through life without people to support who support them back. People you can trust" He felt a stab of guilt at his own words. Once upon a time, he had been one of the few people she trusted. He shrugged. "I'm not needed right now. My life doesn't completely revolve around my job, though I'm sure you're surprised to hear it" he added dryly

Weiss narrowed her eyes at her brother. "You sure didn't seem to care when you left," she retorted. "You chose them over me. It's as simple as that." Weiss couldn't see Riku's departure any other way. In her mind, he had chosen these cops over her, some strangers over his sister. And she refused to feel anything other than bitterness towards his decision. "I can function just fine on my own. I don't need you mothering me," she said. Of course, she knew what Riku was saying was true. Her trust issues had slowly been rising as she had gotten older, and it was making it harder for her to make true friends. Sure, there were people that she enjoyed chatting and spending time with. But telling them about things that were on her mind, or stuff that was bothering her? No way. She kept anything like that bottled up inside.

"You do realize I followed my heart and instincts, right? You do the same thing when you move towards what you want. Besides, our parents disinherited me, I can't really just go up to the house to chat, can I?" he stated a tad bitterly. "They just couldn't accept I didn't want to be a Vooodoo King. "Weiss, you always needed me to vent on. Yes, you do need me mothering you sometimes ,you're still a kid you know. My kid sister"

Weiss sighed. All this arguing was getting no where, and it was giving her a headache. She and Riku weren't about to change their minds anytime soon. "Being sixteen is a bit different from being, like, five," she replied. "I'm going to be an adult legally in two years. I might as well start practicing now." Besides, her parents expected her to behave like an adult long before she hit her teenage years. Practically from day one, they wanted her to have proper manners, to speak eloquently, and behave perfectly during social situations or big events. Weiss had been molded and shaped into the perfect little heiress. She didn't know how to be anything else.
