At Pitch's order both brothers relaxed slightly. Moving quickly they carefully made their way to where Sunshine had found something. They came right when Sunshine opened the box. Dimitri went over to where Sunshine was while Jim watched the door.
"Dang someone's been busy." Dimitri said when he saw what was in the box.

"Your claim has some rather large holes in it."
Pitch was thinking along a similar line with Shadow. Why would Grey Dawn need to kidnap and test the drug on a regular human, for that was clearly what this young woman was. Also, why had the woman's disappearance gone unreported or match any of the other attacks and murders? Pitch stared down at the woman, nod immediately responding to Aqua's request that they at least remove the woman from the scene. His golden stare seemed to frighten the woman and she quickly dropped her face before speaking in a halting tone.
"I....I'm a..."
However, rather then saying she merely lifted the sleeve of her jacket to reveal several needle marks varying in age on the crook of her arm. She didn't need to say anything more. The woman was a drug addict.
"I got a message that I could get...get a free sample from a new drug ring. So I went to the location to meet them and then I was knocked out. I came too later and they were talking about how...something hadn't hurt or killed me, and that was good. I started to struggle and then they knocked me out again."
The woman spoke into her knees, which she had pulled up to her chest and was mumbling into. Pitch continued to gaze at her before finally looking to his fellow detectives and speaking quickly.
"Aqua is right. We can verify the truth of this claim later. For now, Detective Aqua can fly her out to our location and keep an eye on her there. Meanwhile, we can..."
However, Pitch's words suddenly came to a halt as a sound filled the building. It wasn't particularly loud or even that noticeable, but it had a rhythmic, mechanical quality to it that made the demon's senses come alive. Suddenly, the entire warehouse disappeared in a blinding flash as all the lights simultaneously turned on at once, illuminating the darkness with an intense brightness and clearly marking their location.
"Ambush!"
He yelled the words to the Other detectives but by that point it was too late. All around the warehouse and factory, huge metal frames that had been concealed quickly slammed down across all the exits and windows, sealing them inside. In the next moment, masked figures began to appear all along the walkways that adhered to the buildings' interior. There had to be somewhere between 20 to 30 individuals and each carried what appeared to be some kind of modified gun.
Pitch immediately raised his bow with a shadow arrow at the ready while calling out to the shadows that still surrounded them, prepared to use them to lethal force if need be.

Shadow's gun lowered an inch as the woman revealed her arm. Those small pinpricks weren't from an ambush Those had been self-inflicted needle marks. Even one of the veins of her arm was swollen from so much poking. She mentioned getting a drug ring, and the black cop looked at Pitch's direction quizzically. Usually the demon was excellent at tracking drug rings. Could it be possible they had walked into one? Pitch suggested they get the woman out to check on the truth, and he nodded in agreement.
But then Pitch's eyes began glowing.
From working with demons, Shadow knew that was a bad sign. Before he could get into a defense formation, a white light flashed in his eyes. He shielded the intensity with his hand, squinting to try and locate the source. If the lights were laced with beryl or iron, his allies would be useless. The masked figures didn't exactly help. As Shadow was looking for an opening, a painted face was seen in the pocket of the woman's hoodie. He glared hard at her. This had all been a setup.
"Oops," the woman sneered.
________________________________ "Yeah, you can say that again," Sunshine replied dryly. She shut the box and put it back in its place. She tossed Dimitri her frying pan. "You can use Cassie here to try and check the rest. If they're lacing this stuff with poison..."
Her words were cut off by the loud clicking of lights. Big spotlights, from the sound of it. She winced at the fierceness of the light, feeling around the area with her eyes very slowly adjusting to the sudden outburst. As her hand found a box, her wrist was grabbed by a pair of hands that didn't belong to Jim or Dimitri. She struggled against it, feebly kicking at her holder.
"Jim?! Dimtiri?! Shadow?! Somebody! HELP!" She was screaming. With each scream, her voice got louder. The cops would have scolded her for yelling as loud as she was. But this was the first time she was in a hostage situation without anything or anyone to protect her.
"Let me go, you creep!" she screamed at the hands holding her. Her answer was a creepy mask just staring her down.

Trapped. Blinded. A thousand things ran through her mind as she shielded her eyes, fighting to regain her stance. To Aqua, the heat of the room picked up as doors were slammed shut. She could feel her very body aching from being around iron. A slow, throbbing physical pain. She would be fine as long as she didn't touch anything but that was not always a given. If something happened to her partners, if they didn't get the doors open...
The first thought that ran through her head was that someone betrayed them, someone told the drug runners they were going to be there. Either that, or the information had been set up. They had been set up. She pointed her gun at the first goon she saw step out of the shadows. Not good. Really not good. She squinted through the bright lights, feeling her heart race in her chest. Half the force was here. If the goons managed to take them out the police force would be operating at half capacity. It would be chaos in the streets.
----
Chat immediately reacted when he saw goons swarming the outside of the building. Either the police had tipped them off to their location, or it had been a set up the whole time. Either way, Chat wasn't about to just sit back and let the officers be taken advantage of. He jumped across the rooftops, hurrying as fast as he could. He stopped when he heard someone shouting for help.
He used his claw to destroy create a hole in the roof. A hole was created, juts large enough for him to slip through and he jumped down. Someone had grabbed Sunshine. One of the drug dealers by the looks of things. She was kicking at him, trying to get him to let her go. He reached for his staff, extending it to a full length. He tapped the man on the shoulder with it and when he turned, Chat swung the staff like a bat across the man's face. Good news was, he let go of Sunshine.
"Paws off," Chat said.

At Sunshine's scream, both Jim and Dimitri turned and pointed their guns at the person holding her. Jim, the more reasonable one, knew that shooting wouldn't be a good idea. Before he could come up with a plan however, someone dressed like a black cat dropped down from the roof. He and Dimitri exchanged a 'What the fuck?' look before they decided that he was someone they could trust for now, and to get the hell out of dodge.
Dimitri took a few quick snapshots of the boxes and put a few of the drugs in an evidence bag before grabbing Sunshine's arm gently. "Let's go Shine, Jimmy." He said. Then he began to run.
Jim was ready for Dimitri to say 'run'. He ran alongside his brother and Sunshine. "Pitch, Shadow, Aqua need any help?" He asked over the coms. "Also we're getting Sunshine to safety." He added.
As they ran, the brothers watched for anyone coming toward them with ill intent, their bodies ready to fight if necessary.

The shadows were already lapping around Pitch's feet like bubbling tar as the Grey Dawn surrounded them, the 'victim' smirking at the success of her ruse and clearly unworried for her own safety. He along with Shadow and Aqua were completely surrounded, but they were far from powerless. Already his Nightmares were beginning to appear along the walls, ready to attack at his command and the bow in his hand was ready to fire. He could produce as many arrows as necessary even with the intense lights taking away most of the shadows.
However, if a confrontation began it would most likely be very bloody and there was no telling who would end up leaving in a body bag. The likelihood of the Grey Dawn forces backing down was slim, but he had to at least make an attempt.
"This is the BPD Others Unit. Put your weapons down now and surrender peacefully or we will be forced to use our full powers. Injury or kill any officers and you will be shown no leniency or mercy."
Several of the masked figures shifted uncomfortably, their heads jerking towards the Nightmares that stood ready and waiting just out of sight or flinching at the cold ice of his voice. However, the 'victim' rose to her feet and began to laugh loudly, the sound echoing around the space as she dusted off her tattered pants like there wasn't a possible shootout about to take place. The masked individuals joined in but their weapons never wavered from where he had the Other officers stood.
A single figure wearing a completely blank mask stepped forward on the catwalk and looked down from their height at the scene on the floor. They were wearing a long trench coat with a hood that hid their body and gender perfectly, but when they spoke it was in the voice of a young man. It was filled with sneering victory and contempt, but beneath that was something stronger. Hatred. Pure and simple hatred.
"Sorry, but we don't listen to filthy Others, no matter what faces they masquerade in or badges they hide behind. And besides, it took far too long to get the BPD to send out the trash they pass for officers these day. After all, we didn't lure you to this warehouse after months of preparation to just kill you. At least, not yet. Not before we've run our tests."
With that, the man raised his hand and the figures on the catwalk started to fire down into the factory floor. Immediately, Pitch threw up a shadow wall around himself and his companions. Normal bullets could only wound him, not kill, but it was clear as the first projectiles hit his shadows that these weren't bullets. As they fell to the ground, Pitch saw that they were hypodermic needles, each filled with a silvery substance. What was more, the casings around them were imbedded with a sharp green stones. Emeralds. As he realized this, cracks began to appear in his shadow wall.
Pitch turned his attention back to the attackers, releasing his Nightmares from their hold and ordering them to subdue the masked individuals. The horses reared before galloping forward, swarming up the catwalks and heading straight for the Grey Dawn members. Several were overcome before they could turn the weapons on to the Nightmares, but others were soon firing and as each hit a Nightmare, the equine-shadow burst apart like a black cloud.
And still many of the gunners were firing at his wall, causing pieces to start to break off. He braced himself, trying to keep the wall intact while also ordering his Nightmares effectively. Suddenly, Dimitri's voice came over the earpiece, saying they were trying to get Sunshine out and if they needed help.
"Send for backup at once! We need..."
But he didn't finish. Suddenly, Pitch heard a series of pops and felt several deep and sharp pains along his upper shoulder and back. Jerking, Pitch looked over his shoulder to see the woman holding a smaller version of the guns her fellow Grey Dawners were using. His yellow eyes then turned to the tranquilizers embedded in his skin, each depressing the silver liquid into his body. The woman's smile had grown wider, turning into a Cheshire cat grin as she turned to fire the gun at Shadow and Aqua in turn. Whatever she shot into me, it can't harm me. Barely anything can harm me. I'm a demon.
The thought went calmly enough through Pitch's mind as she reached over his shoulder and pulled out the needles. However, something was wrong. He suddenly started to feel lightheaded and his connection with his Nightmares, with the very shadows was fading. Even his protective wall was starting to crumble away rapidly. Wincing, he pulled the needles out of his flesh and immediately the wounds began to bleed.
But the blood wasn't black demon's blood. It was red. A bright and brilliant crimson.... just like a human's blood.

Pitch's nightmares were, for now, the only backup Shadow, Aqua, and the demon had. The black hedgehog removed his hand from his pistol hilt, nodding at every moving placement. The Gray Dawn had been planning for some time now, given the numbers. And with the Others Unit, outnumbered did not necessarily mean unmatched. Pitch's speech put a bit of discomfort in several members.
One member stepped forward, his face hidden by a mask. Masks didn't scare Shadow. If anything, masks were a sign of cowardice. They didn't want to face what they were afraid of full on, so in response, they decided to cover it up by pretending not to be scared. The hatred and discomfort would be a strength. While the leader of the Gray Dawn taunted them, and all he heard was incompentence disguised by buzz words.
But then the men starting firing. Shadow had dashed in front of Aqua to act as a double shield, and Pitch had created a black wall of darkness to shroud them. Several bullets fell through, glinting green. Emerald. Apparently, the Gray Dawn's primary targets had been demons.
But Shadow wasn't a demon.
He took a breath, getting into a running stance. The jets began churning, powered by both adrenaline and his chaos. They hummed before in one push, Shadow was taking off. The shooters could only see a streak of red and black barrelling through. The hypodermic needles were either blown far to one side into a useless heap or were redirected. The silver-green needles were retaliated by quick flicks of pointed, orange energy that came flying through. Several shots knocked a fw of the shooters back, while another blasted a hole in the protective shields. It was still made of iron, which meant getting Aqua through would be risky, but it was worth a shot. Pitch's Nightmares galloped through in assisting with the Gray Dawn members.
Pitch mentioned something about getting backup, only to stop. Shadow slowed his speed carefully, noticing the "victim's" smirk, the gun smoking, and the red, not black, blood dripping onto the floor.
He had been shot with Sapien.
"Aqua, get Pitch out of here!" Shadow yelled over his shoulder as he ran for the grate he had opened. He began pulling at it aggressively, removing any traces of iron so she could fly out okay. More importantly, he started thinking about Sunshine. Jim and Dimitri were more than capable of protecting her. But he just could see the expression of fear and confusion; the same one she had when they first met. The final iron panel was ripped clean off, and he crouched down, taking one more breath.
One hand came over his inhibitor rings. They held back his power, and the Gray Dawn had only seen just half of what he could do. If Pitch and Aqua were to escape, they'd need to use his full potential. The ring glowed bright yellow before clicking and falling into the ground with a clatter. The second one fell, too. His mind channeled to almost nothing. The only thoughts he had were of Sunshine with her wide eyes, her even bigger smile, and her voice singing her trademark song. But the postive thoughts were balanced by other thoughts. He thought of Maria being shot, of Pitch holding his memories...
The thoughts were swelling inside as he stalked to the center. The Gray Daw was firing at him, but the needles were either bouncing off of him or he didn't feel scraping. The emerald wouldn't effect him. If anything, it just got him all the more irritated. They were going to learn the hard way, that if you messed with Shadow Griffiths, you were going to get more hurt than expected. His fur went from black to red, the power that was so strong becoming a small ball in his veins. With an irate yell, he thrust his arms forward, sending out a forceful surge of red energy. Those within its radius were sent flying. He charged his jets and took off forward.
But a painful clip in his shoulder sent him spiraling off track. His fur began changing back to black. The jets were shutting down. He tried to veer away, but the result sent him crashing into a pile of Sapien crates that tumbled and spilled their contents. He wasn't crushed by any boxes, but fatigue was washing over him. His power exertion had cost him energy, but hopefully enough of a chance to escape. He put a hand over his wound, panting. "Go..." he whispered before collasping. __________________________________________ "What the FUCK, Chat?" was the only thing Sunshine could yell as he burst in with a bo staff and knocking the thug out. This kid was a freaking idiot. This Sapien mission was waaay over his head. It was one thing to be investigating uncertainties based around the drug or who was abusing its power, but to tag along in a full scale operation? That was absolutely stupid.
But before she could scold him even more, Jim and Dimtri came to her rescue. The brothers had gotten hold of some of the Sapien they had discovered. She nodded in agreement with Jim, cantering nearby. The less she thought about the motive, the beter. They had to get out of this place. It had been a trap the whole time.
Over the com, Pitch called for backup. But in the midst of the cry, he was cut off by a cry of pain. The very unmistakable pop of a gunshot could be heard. That noise ground Sunshine to a near halt. The car was right there, a sign of salvation. Jim and Dimitri could take care of her, and they could get a head start on the evidence while backup was on the way. Chat qualified as backup, too, in a way. As she was looking back, she saw an explosion go off, blowing one of the windows. Her eyes widened in fear. Pitch, Aqua, and Shadow...They all had been in there.
"No..." she half-whispered. Her eyes began tearing. She shut them, willing them to go back into her eyes. She had been freaked when the vampires got her. She had been freaked when she blew up a vampire due to a tramua trigger. Not today. These weren't vampires. These were idiots that wanted Others out of the picture. She was a gifted human, she was a member of the Others Unit of the BPD. Sure, they were overlooked and not respected by the main police, but they were still officers.
As she got a more determined expression, she took off...in the other direction. A panel was being ripped apart, and a new hope filled her. That had to be Shadow ripping it open. He was okay! They were going to get ou
"Sunshine!"
A weezing cough from the rasp called her. She looked over and gasped. Shadow was laying on the ground, clutching his side. His glove was stained crimson. Gasping she ran to his side as he fell. "Oh, no. Just stay with me," she breathed, gripping her hair. She closed her eyes to will it to lengthen, making it glow.
"You know.." Shadow whispered, "I've always liked that about you."
"No, you are not dying today!" Sunshine hysterically shouted. A reassuring smile crossed her face as she reached her hand out. She had never touched his face, but the warmth of it was comforting. He was breathing in labored huffs. One of his hands went to brush her cheek, and he smiled up at her. She opened her mouth to sing...until she felt the very bacl of her hair be gripped tightly and severed.
"Shadow?!" Sunshine cried out.
The black hedgehog's face was turning into an evil grin. The red and black face dissolved into a white mask. Laying perfectly unharmed was a member of the Gray Dawn, who was laughing. A shapeshifter. "You picked the wrong side, but welcome back to the fold of humanity," he grinned triumphantly. Sunshime glowered at him. Her hand hand clenched tightly, and she punched the shifter right in the mask.
"Hypocrite," she growled as the shifter who tricked her slumped. After maiing sure she was unconscious, she turned on her com. "Detective Seddon of the Others Unit following up on backup. Three officers are trapped in there and need medical support. Also, if there is anyone with a cat motif nearby, do not, I repeat do NOT, turn him in. He's on our side. For now."
Sunshine just stared at the length of blonde hair he had cut off. Rapidly, the blonde was fading away into brown. No doubt she was rcking a brown, short hairdo herself. She gathered the lengths of hair and ran back to Jim and Dimitri. Her hair could be used to study the side effects of Sapiens on gifted humans, too.

Pitch gave fair warning. Aqua took a deep breath. She readjusted her grip on her gun, ready to fire if things got bad. Magic? Perhaps, if things got bad and things were. She could just feel it. Everyone in the room knew it was going to happen. It was just a matter of who pulled the trigger first. She knew it wouldn’t be the officers. Shadow and Pitch were too levelheaded for that sort of thing and she wasn’t about to start a killing spree. While Pitch’s threat made the men nervous, the 'victim' that had seemed a little too well place laughed cruelly. Masked men and guns were never one of Aqua’s favorite things.
"Coward!" she challenged. "You lure people here!"
A raised hand and a hail of projectiles came their way. Aqua was airborne but Pitch’s shadows were just as efficient to provide her with cover from the barrage. Shadow stepped in front of her as well. Both were people that Aqua would never want to be on the wrong side of. Aqua glowered at the men. They were just trying to do their job. What had the BPD done that was worth being attacked? Lured and attacked? Was it just because they were different? Because they were Others? Then that must have made these men Human Purists. Humanists. Rebels who hated Others because they were not human.
Aqua flew up, grabbing the cable that attached one of the catwalks to the ceiling. She hesitated before she placed a hand on it, freezing the wire. When she let go, the chord snapped and men were sent toppling onto wooden boxes below. They weren’t dead, but there were plenty of more goons to take their place. They could, hopefully, be apprehended and taken in for the crimes. Attacking a police officer was a serious offense. But Aqua considered what they were doing with the drugs even worse. Jim asked if they needed back up. Pitch was asking for backup, something that surprised Aqua since while Pitch seemed to be able to offer his help she would have thought him too proud to ask for it.
"It was a trap. Get out of here!" Aqua told the others over the line.
If anything happened to Pitch, Aqua or Shadow, then they needed Dimitri, Jim and Sunshine to get out with the evidence. Then it happened. Pitch was shot with liquid Sapien. Aqua hurried to his side as soon as Shadow told her to. They didn’t have time. This was bad. Really bad.
"Pitch!" she cried.
Shadow had given them an opening, one to get out. But to leave Shadow or save Pitch? Aqua had always known that saving one person meant that she could not save the other, but to have that decision thrust upon her like this? She looked between the two worriedly. She could probably carry Pitch out if she had to, but if he was just going to be dead weight from the shock, it might make things harder. But then Shadow, Sunshine would never forgive her if anything happened to him.
"Pitch, we have to go!" she told Pitch.
----
"Language, my lady," Chat scolded. "I thought you’d need help in case things got a little hairy."
Yes, he shouldn’t have been there. But if anything happened to the BPD officers, the city would lose its mind. A lot of innocent people would get hurt and there would be no one there to stop it. Adrien had seen that as a kid, during the war. He lost his mother during that. He wasn’t about to let it happen again. Not as long as he could stop it. Sure, Sunshine could chew him out as much as she liked, but only after they were safe.
"You can thank me later, but first, we have to get out of here."
Chat followed the three officers out of the building. He may or may not have been trying to hurry them along and instead of picking locked doors, he might have just destroyed one or two, but if he could make sure a few officers got out of this, then he did something good that night. That much, he was certain. They were almost clear, the squad car was just in sight when Sunshine stopped dead in her tracks, a haunted expression on her face.
Chat quickly stepped in front of her, shielding her from debris from an explosion that rocked the building. Some glass blew out and he could smell fire. He wasn’t a mind reader, but he didn’t have to be to know what she was thinking. Her normally brooding partner had to have been in there. Her loyalty to him was admirable. Chat put both clawed gloves on her shoulder, trying to get her to look at him, but it seemed like she was looking past him. He sighed and let her go. She was so withdrawn nothing he said would get through to her. So he looked to the other two officers.
"Sunshine, I’ll go back," he told her. "You two, get her out of here!"
Chat shook his head. The things he did for the damsels in distress. He took off running, not looking back to see if they actually listened to him. He was heading back towards the dangerous building. He got to a set of wide double doors that were starting to get hot. Swearing to himself, he tore through them with a swipe of his hand. The burning wood disintegrated into ashes and he let himself into the building.

Pitch's vision was starting to blur and it felt as if the whole room was shaking around him as he tried to stay on his feet. However, he couldn't and ended up in a kneeling position as he clenched a hand over the shoulder where he had been shot. There was pain, but worse was the feeling of something draining out of him, some vital part of him that was disappearing.
As he tried to keep his eyes focused on the scene before him, he saw Shadow and Aqua using their powers to fight back against the Grey Dawn. Shadow had unleashed his inhibitor rings and was using his speed and power to knock out any opponent that came near him and Aqua send several gunmen falling into the crates of Sapien below when she froze the catwalk wires to shattering point.
However, he knew they were outnumbered and that sooner or later, the guns would hit their targets. Already those masked individuals that remained were starting to switch from the drug over to ammunition and somewhere in the warehouse an explosion had started a fire when one of the Grey Dawn hit a piece of machinery that still contained oil, causing it to spark.
He tried once more to rise to his feet, to call his shadows to aid him and teleport them out of the warehouse and back to safety. Backup would be on its way but they could all be dead and Grey Dawn gone before they arrived. However, he could barely sense his connection to the shadows and stumbled once more.
We have to get out of here, but we have to destroy as much Sapien as possible.
The thought was the only concrete thing left in his mind. And things went from bad to worse when Shadow was hit by a lucky shot from one of the gunners. Aqua had already landed next to him and was trying to get him to his feet, to move and get out of the warehouse. There were only twelve men left shooting, but they weren't letting up. He had taken cover behind a series of crates but there was no way they could get out without being shot to ribbons. Unless....
Pitch looked down at his feet, where many of the crates had spilled their liquid cargo of the drug. He then looked blurrily across the room where the fire was steadily moving towards them. As he watched, the flames engulfed another crate. For a moment it nearly burned before suddenly exploding violently, spewing its liquid contents across the floor while the flames fed on it.
Sapien was flammable. And under the catwalk where the remainder of Grey Dawn stood firing was the largest collection of crates. Their leader had fled at the onset and it was clear they weren't going to leave until the Others detectives were dead.
"Aqua, get ready to move and grab Shadow on my word."
Pitch didn't wait for a confirmation from the Faery and instead acted. The idea was desperate and dangerous, but it was all they had. With this in mind, Pitch grabbed a flaming piece of wood from a nearby fire before focusing all his remaining strength into forming one last shadow wall. Suddenly, he rose over the crate and, before he could collapse, used the shadow wall to protect him as he threw the flame across the room and directly on to the crates below the catwalk.
"MOVE!"
Throwing an arm over Aqua's shoulder, Pitch stumbled towards the exit where the hole Shadow had made gaped and the prone figure of Shadow lay. They were an open target and immediately the Grey Dawn turned their guns to follow their path, ready to shoot them down without an hesitation.
CRACK!
Suddenly the crates below the catwalk exploded with the force of a bomb, sending flames, pieces of metal and smoking debris in every direction! The screams of those caught in the blast were muted by the thunderous roar of the explosion.
Pitch staggered slightly to the floor where Shadow lay and grabbed him under the armpit as the explosion hit them, peppering them all with debris. The demon ground his teeth as his shoulder was hit by a flying piece of wood and a fragment of metal cut across his chest as it flew past them and created another hole next to the one Shadow had made.
Suddenly, over the crackle of the flames and the smaller explosions that went off as the last crates were destroyed, there came the sound of metal squealing in protest and the whole roof of the factory shifted down towards them.
"It's collapsing! Get out now!"

"Pitch, what are you thinking?" Aqua demanded.
He didn’t listen to her. Instead, he picked up a piece of burning wood and chucked it as hard as he could at the crates across the way. She could only follow it for a second before Pitch was urging her to go. He had put an arm around her shoulder. She grabbed ahold of it and moved, wings fluttering slightly to push them a little faster than Pitch was probably able to go in his weakened state. She could probably fly the two of them out of there but they had to get Shadow too. But for now they were more or less doing a sprint out of the warehouse until Pitch let go of her.
A twisted crack and a soft boom created a fiery inferno around them. Aqua turned as a piece of shrapnel cut her across the cheek. She held out her hand and a shield appeared between them and the rest of the fire. Icy hexagonal prisms created a rounded wall but it wouldn’t last against the heat of the blaze. It was getting harder and harder to breathe. Aqua felt like the very air was being sucked from her lungs but for another reason entirely. She and Terra had been caught in a fire once. It was the same fire that hurt him, that hurt her, that ruined everything between them. She shook her head. She couldn’t think about that. Not now.
Pitch had grabbed Shadow, hauling their unconscious officer into an upright position. Hate her for it later, Aqua was getting them out of there. She flew forward and wrapped her arms around Pitch and Shadow the best she could. It took a bit more effort than she was used to, since she was lifting two people, not one, but she got them semi-airborne or enough so that they were off the ground. This only meant that if they lived through this, she was going to have to learn to carry more weight in training.
Without waiting for a response, she was flying as fast as she could with things falling down around them. Her back roared in agony, protesting the unusual amount of weight but she pushed on, gritting her teeth as the exit drew nearer and nearer. Her wings ached and throbbed from both the heat of the fire and the iron around them. She had a white knuckled grip on them and there were a few moments where she felt like she was going to drop them but the exit was so close. Just a little further and they would be home free. She just had to get a little closer to light, clean area, and the cold breeze.
"Hold on!"
Was she telling them that or was she trying to reassure herself? The flight wasn’t one of her cleanest. There were a few times where they dropped in altitude and she trembled a little. But the gaping hole in the wall was so close. So when she barreled through it, she flew to the squad cars and almost collapsed. She made sure to set Pitch and Shadow down as carefully as she could. Her vision was blacking out around the edges. She could feel herself breathing heavily. She could feel something wet on her face. Was she crying? There was a sharp stinging sensation on her cheek but there was something else as well.
----
Chat had to hand it to them; the officers of the BPD knew how to throw a riot. He barely stepped inside when someone shouted for everyone to bail. The roof was coming down. Chat peered through the smoke of the blaze. He could see the three officers, struggling to get their way to the exit. A woman struggling to get her partners out. One looked sickened or at least hurt while the other was completely out of it. Chat rushed forward. A beam nearly fell in their way but one swipe of his claws and it turned to ash faster than the fire would have made it turn.
The faery woman flew straight past him. She probably wasn’t even aware he was there. His black suit did blend in with the smoke. But he raced after them, making sure to destroy what obstacles seemed to crop up. But no sooner did they get outside and near one of the squad cars did the building tumble down. Chat went a little pale at the thought. They could have been in there for that. Any longer and they would have been flat cats.
He let out a deep breath. So it hadn’t been his best rescue of the night. But he walked over to the three police officers to check and make sure they were okay. Hopefully no one else was in the building, or rather, no one was in the building who was actually good. The blue haired faery looked close to a breakdown. Chat didn’t blame her. They were almost burned alive and in a factory filled with iron and fire, she was probably at wits end.
Chat sighed. He gently put a hand on her shoulder. She jumped and looked up at him in alarm. He hoped the smile he gave her was reassuring. She didn’t look too reassured. But the whole lot of them looked worse for wear. The darker officer looked faint on his feet. It seemed the third officer was still out cold. Then there was the faery. Her wings looked like they had been burnt slightly and the edges were looking particularly raw. Leading up to her back, the skin there was tender and red. She would definitely want to keep from flying for a while.
"It’s okay. You’re safe now." Chat told them.
It was somewhat ironic that the thief was reassuring the cops that they were safe. Normally, that was the officers’ job. They would tell the people that he stole from that they were lucky he wasn’t a violent man or that no one had gotten hurt. Chat wasn’t like that. And these circumstances were anything but normal. Someone had set up the cops to fall and possibly die. Chat was going to get to the bottom of it. Sunshine was one of those officers and to an extension, Shadow was too. He might not have gotten along with Shadow, but he didn’t want the man dead either.

Not since the kidnapping at Thorn Manor had Sunshine felt so useless. Without any sun flowing through her hair, she couldn't do anything until help arrived. Chat had said he'd go on ahead, and she obliged reluctantly. She wove the now brown length of hair in her hand like a rosary, each stroke for the officers. Suddenly, she heard a sound she had never wanted to hear. An explosion.
"NO!" She screamed tearfully, bursting out of the car. The warehouse was in smoke. She sank to her knees with her eyes now fully watered. "No...please, no..." She was fully sobbing now. Her closest friend was no doubt dead. Innocent life was lost, too, but to lose one's partner. This must have been how Aqua felt.
Aqua. Was that her flying through the smoke
It had to be. She was flying weakly, but all that mattered was she had been okay. Chat would be helping them. Sunshine made out two figures under her arms. Pitch...and Shadow. The demon looked weak, but Shadow was unconscious.
Her eyes filled once more. Sirens wailed as the extra cops pulled in. An ambulance was nearby, looking for several people. Normally, 'medicine was a sign of hope. But Sunshine just saw it as a sign of negative changes. As she saw her partner placed on a gurney and wheeled in, she sat in the car, stroking her hair and sobbing once more. Sapien would be weaving through the streets, and there was nothing she could do to stop it. ((End thread?))

Jim and Dimitri both ran straight for their car with Sunshine in tow. They both rolled their eyes at Chat. Dimitri looked like he was about to punch the kid when he told them how to do their job. Since neither had received orders to come and help, they both decided it would be best to get to safety. Jim was in the middle of calling for back up when Sunshine darted away from them and headed back to where they had just left.
"SON OF A BITCH!" Dimitri swore when he saw Sunshine run off. "SUNSHINE GET BACK HERE!!"
When she came back both brothers jaws dropped when they saw that her hair was short and brown and not the normal long gold. When she started to cry Jim sat beside her and wrapped her in a hug.
