Pitch didn't say anything as Moses attempted to explain his actions in regard to Vanitas, but the cold expression never left his face. Even after the young half-demon had finished speaking, he didn't offer anything in return for several tense moments. And when he finally did speak, the words were far from warm.
"You are free to make your own choices in this life. I will not dictate or coerce you into taking a path you would not choose yourself. However, know that Demons never change their nature readily."
With that said, Pitch turned away from Moses and walked over to where Esmeralda still sat in the sandbox with the young boy.

Mose stared at Pitch, feeling crushed and not exactly knowing why. Pure anger would have been far better than the detached coldness he had been given. The feeling that he had done something very wrong, had disappointed Pitch somehow, caused a lump in his throat that he pushed down. He turned and, with his hands in his pockets, trudged off. Feeling very alone suddenly.

Esmeralda was smiling as she helped her young godson not even looking up with Pitch approached. "Edmund say hello to my partner Pitch." she says before the small boy waved at the man. the young boy would show signs of something being very wrong with him whether it just being sick or something else. "He is my god son... his mother recently passed away... so I have custody of him..." she says softly most to Pitch.

Pitch looked down at the boy but wasn't really seeing him. He was too busy thinking over this latest development with Moses and what it would mean for the future. Clearly the young half-Demon had been fooled into believing that Vanitas was not all bad, that he could and wanted to be redeemed in the eyes of humanity.
Well, Moses might have swallowed that lie, but Pitch knew better. After all, Demons often disguised themselves as something good to lure the unwary in before revealing their true natures.
All this silently played across his mind as he looked down at the sickly child and half-heard what Esmeralda was saying. At least it explained why she had brought the toddler with her.
"And what does that have to do with our meeting?"

"Pitch I am.. conflicted..." she says the tone in her voice marked something very serious was happening either to her or the child. "Yes I believe that Sapien is a horrific drug that strips us of what makes us... well us... but it could save him..." she says looking at the toddler running around the sandbox. "His mother's abilities... were destructive not to others but herself they ate her from the inside out the fact that she could have Edmund was nothing short of... a miracle."
Her breath hitched a bit as she spoke a slight waver to her voice as she tried her best to not let the emotions over take her. "Her abilities didn't come until later in life around twenty or so... but Edmund.. Pitch he is showing the signs at the age of three he can barely keep food down, he is always sick its... a nightmare..." she says her hands curling into tight fists before continuing "Sapien could at least... dampen his powers long enough for me to figure out what he and his mother had... I may have lost Lottie but I don't want to lose him too."

Pitch's expression didn't change at all as Esmeralda spoke and all he did in response to the whole sad situation was glance down at the pale little boy again. However, his features didn't soften.
"What exactly do you want me to do about it?"
He turned his gaze onto the turquoise eyes of his partner, but it was clear enough from his tone that he didn't care much about the situation.
"You already have the answer to your problem and certainly don't need my help. So what is it that you want?"
