"Or else what? Blackmail me? Threaten me? Hit me?"
Ralph suddenly laughed, the sound echoing down the brick walls of the alley. However, the sound wasn't mirthful or happy and instead held a hard edge to it that would make most people feel like the blood had drained from their body. With that said, Ralph got right down in Vanitas' face so that they were eye to eye and less then a foot separated them.
"You don't run the show anymore, Vanny. No one's gonna save your hide this time."

Vanitas did not back down when Ralph got up in his face. He was not scared of Ralph, just like he wasn't scared of Pitch. He knew what he had done. Having the giant digging into things like this only made him realize one thing. He was running out of time. It was only a matter of time before enough evidence was accrued and he would be either arrested for what he did or he would die in a standoff with the police. He was not going to give Ralph any more information than absolutely necessary. Keep his freedom for as long as he could.
"I might not be running things now," Vanitas admitted, because things had escalated faster than he could control them. "But I started this."

"And I'm here to end it."
With that said, Ralph reached into his pocket and pulled out something that gave off a metallic glint in the light that fell from the streetlamp. It was only as he moved the object up his knuckles that the object became clear. It was a set of brass knuckles, large enough to slide over the wide fingers of the Giant's hand and still encompass his knuckles.
However, these weren't standard brass knuckles. Something glinted at the tips, something that had been embedded into the metal but jutted out just enough to be seen. It glinted green in the light.
"Know what these are?"
He brought the knuckles up so that they were directly in front of Vanitas' face, so close there was no way he could possibly mistake the stones that seemed to beautify the brass knuckles but actually made them into a weapon against Demons.

"That isn't going to stop anything you stupid ignoramus." Vanitas hissed.
He had already been poisoned with emerald enough, thank you. He didn't need a second dose. He would also prefer to avoid the pain. He had just gotten over what Pitch had done to him. Not to mention, Moses' complaining when Vanitas had broke into his place to clean himself up. The stones were almost close enough to touch his skin. He could already feel a fire starting to burn, as if he were getting a bad sunburn from the almost contact. He stepped back, finding that he was up against a wall. He was going to have to fight his way out. Again. Wonderful. The shadows twisted upon his will, ready to block so he could make his escape.

"Actually, it is."
With that said, Ralph once more produced another piece of paper from his overalls and let it fall in front of the Demon. Once it hit the ground, the words on it were clear as day. It was an arrest warrant for Vanitas and based on two separate assaults against BPD officers.
The smile on Ralph's face grew wider as he revealed the paper that now allowed him to legally pursue and subdue the Demon, but his eyes were still full of fiery anger. He was going to take in Vanitas either way for his part in Terrance's disappearance and his two assaults, but the Giant wanted the Demon to resist. Then he would have the perfect excuse to beat the living tar out of him.

Warrants. Vanitas closed his eyes and exhaled slowly. He had all but hung himself by attacking those two officers. He felt his hands clench and he opened his eyes again to glower up at Ralph. This was going to get a bit messy. He knew it had been coming. Pitch was never going to let those charges drop even if he had retaliated with equal violence. He couldn't claim police brutality because he had responded in kind, matching violence for violence, instigating a bit more than he ought to have.
"And you came by yourself to arrest me?" he mocked. "I'm a little offended. If Pitch couldn't bring me in, what makes you think you can?"

"Simple. You only attack people weaker then you, and I'm not."
And without another word or any hesitation, Ralph brought up his emerald-encrusted fist and swung at Vanitas, the blow aimed for the side of his head. If he could knock the Demon out, it would be the perfect way to vent his anger while still taking him into custody. Another part of him hoped that Vanitas would give him the excuse to beat the living tar out of him.
His brass knuckles would certainly inflict some painful blows to the Demon, but it wouldn't kill him. No, they weren't designed for that and he wasn't about to let this piece of garbage escape justice by delivering him into Death's cold hands.

Vanitas only narrowly dodged the attack meant for his head. The giant was obviously not going to hold blows just because of his sheer size it seemed. Even as the fist sailed past his head, Vanitas could feel the heat of the emerald affixed brass knuckles. He had to get some room between him and the lummox. Get away from the wall that was pinning him down. Ralph was just cruising for a bruising - for Vanitas. No wonder he lost his badge. As for 'attacking the weak' the people he had encountered had been able to hold their own just fine, even Pitch, as a human. Which peeved Vanitas more than it should have.
"Depends on how you look at it." Vanitas muttered.
Yes, Vanitas knew that Ralph was undoubtedly physically stronger than him. The giant might even have developed a basic immunity to dark magic (which was not unheard of). But Vanitas was smarter. That was the one thing he could almost always count on in every encounter. He was smarter and he had a strong desire to live. So he called the shadows to him, quickly making his sword appear in his hand so he could block if necessary.

The Demon barely managed to dodge Ralph's fist as it passed him by a mere inch before slamming into the brick wall and creating a sizeable crater. The Giant immediately pulled back into a fighting pose, his fists raised and his legs positioned to give him the balance that would be needed when he struck.
Vanitas wasn't without his own tricks and quickly produced a wicked looking sword from the surrounding darkness. Ralph wasn't perturbed at all by the weapon and instead turned his head and spat on the ground, his mouth pulled into a grim smile.
"Let's see what you've got then, demon."
Ralph edged closer to Vanitas, jumping lightly on the spot as his brass and emerald knuckles gleamed in what little light there was. He didn't attack immediately and instead waited, wanting to see just what this creature was capable of.

Back to the wall, there was nowhere for Vanitas to go, except through Ralph. He could just use a corridor of darkness to escape, but there was no guarantee that the stupid detective wouldn't just try to follow him through it. So around the giant it was. He raised the blade. If he had been any other type of civilian, he could have protested that even though there was a warrant, Ralph was no bounty hunter. He tilted the blade, just so that the point was visible. The giant was going to regret this. Vanitas was gong to make sure of it.
"I gave you an out." he uttered.
He took a running start at Ralph, swinging the blade as he went, ready to duck and weave his way around the man, a bid for prolonged freedom. He didn't know why he was still fighting this. Fighting anything anymore. His plans to get back at the city were coming undone at the seams. He spent many long years plotting and planning and acting. It was all ruined. A furious cry left his lips as he charged.

Ralph didn't have to wait long before Vanitas charged at him, his blade held aloft and angled to catch him in the side. The Giant didn't even try to dodge the attack and instead balled his hand into a fist and used the back of his hand, completely covered by the brass and emeralds, to knock the blade aside.
Sparks flew as the two opposites met, flashing light briefly into the alley as he brought up his other hand and punched outwards, the blow aimed to catch the Demon in the chest.

His sword was knocked away with the utmost of ease. Vanitas turned but his reaction time was slowed by his shock. His chest was on fire the moment the emerald knuckles touched him. He hit the ground shortly after his sword did. His clothes had been the only thing protecting him from a full on burn. As Vanitas lay on the ground, fighting for his breath he realized this was a little more serious than he first gave thought to. His hand went to touch his chest but stopped short in case Ralph used emerald dust as well.
He scrambled back, trying to get to his feet before Ralph would attack again. He raised a hand. Shadows lashed out, grabbing one of Ralph's wrists to keep him back. A couple more hits like that and Ralph would take him into custody. Vanitas had finally reached the end of the rope.

When Ralph felt his fist firmly connect with Vanitas, when he saw the Demon hit the ground with a look of pain, when he saw the smallest flicker of fear pass into his yellow eyes, the Giant experienced of flush of grim pleasure.
He continued to smirk down at the Demon as he cracked his knuckles in their coverings of brass and emerald. He didn't even feel the pain of the bruises forming on his hands after each hit. He was relishing the moment too much, the simple fact that he was finally delivering to Vanitas the punishment for his crimes that he had avoided for so long.
He was just preparing to place another blow when the shadows suddenly lashed out and grabbed his wrist, wrapping around it securely so that he was just out of reach of the Demon.
"Shit!"
Ralph spat out the word in surprise and anger as his punch was brought to a grinding halt. He immediately reached over with his other hand and began to tear at the shadows, the muscles in his ensnared arm bulging mightily as he tried to free himself from the supernatural hold.

A portal appeared behind Vanitas. He knew when he was beaten. He lived to fight another day. Ralph had made his list of annoyances to deal with. Along with Pitch Black, that stupid faery and that troll... The list of people he could trust was growing smaller and smaller. The very ground beneath his feet was all but littered in traps for him. Still, because Ralph was now the one backed into the corner, Vanitas could make his escape. He got to his feet and stepped back into the safety of the portal, already feeling it pulling him away from the threat that was the giant.
"Thank you, this has been truly informative." he said.
He gave the giant a mocking bow as the portal closed up, sealing him away from Ralph once and for all. His chest burned something fierce. This time, he knew he would be able to get by on his own without Moses' help? Interference? He wasn't sure what to call it anymore. He just knew he didn't need Moses coddling him again, especially if he was going to treat him like dog that had messed on the carpet.

"NO!"
Ralph positively screamed the word as he realized Vanitas was about to escape, once again avoiding the justice he so rightly deserved. In that instant, he strained with all his might and a huge yell was ripped from him as he managed to break the hold the shadows had on his wrist. By that point, the Demon had disappeared into the portal.
The Giant charged at the swirling vortex, not willing to accept that Vanitas was going to get away from him. However, just before he reached it, the portal collapsed in on itself and left him facing nothing but a blank wall of bricks.
"No...."
Ralph stared at the wall for several moments of utter silence. Then his expression collapsed into a look of pure rage and he brought his fists forward, pounding into the wall where only a few moments ago Vanitas had stood.
"NO, NO, NO!"
He punctuated each word with another hit to the wall until, with one final yell, he punched a whole straight through the wall to the empty building beyond. He then stood panting, his brown eyes still gleaming with the wrath he had planned to unleash on the Demon.
"This isn't over you cowardly piece of Demon filth! Not by a long shot!"
