Moses' answer to his question bothered him more than he cared to admit. It was rattling around in his head as he walked. He was unable to sleep, even this late at night. No plans, no plots, no anything, just walking to clear his mind. Troublesome half demon. Hands in his pockets, confusion running through his head, and bad decisions piling up behind him. Assaulting two police officers... Killing a third. A death sentence for sure for the likes of him once he got caught. He was only making his own noose with the way he was acting.
Then there was the thief who had broken into his last hideout. They had taken the bloody badge of Terrance Nobel. Evidence. Something he foolishly kept as a trophy of sorts against the officers who had gotten under his skin. He shook his head. This wasn't good. Certainly not good at all. He figured it was high time he went to the catacombs where he had left the dead officer. Make sure no one had crossed where he had left it.

The demon never seemed to realized that somewhere along his walk, he had attracted a shadow. However, this wasn't a restored Pitch come to exact vengeance on Vanitas for attacking him. No, this was someone different but still intent on revenge.
The huge figure stalked the demon with a skill and silence that seemed to go against his massive size and fiery personality. The shadow continued to dodge Vanitas' heels for a length of time before suddenly making a move and closing in on the demon.
"Well, well, well. Looks like I found myself just the demon I wanted."
Ralph had moved quickly so that he was only a few feet away from Vanitas, his height seeming to dwarf the Other.

Vanitas sighed. He looked up at Ralph impassively. The emerald bullet was still hindering him but he could at least power through the pain of it. Just a little longer for it to completely leave his system. He really didn't want to be bothered right now. Not when things were really starting to hit the fan. Pitch poisoned him with the emerald. Moses kept trying to insist that Vanitas could be good if he just tried. The thieves stole the bloody badge from his hideout. Soon the police officer who blinded him would find out the gift that Vanitas had left him. Vanitas was literally digging his own grave at this point. However, he was fed up with everything. He just wanted a few hours where he wouldn't feel anything. Maybe he should go get drunk or stoned...
"Leave me alone," he threatened.

"Sorry, but no."
Ralph's tone was anything but apologetic. In fact, it had grown strangely quiet and was barely higher then a whisper, a sure sign to anyone who knew him that he was well and truly angry. He was like the dead silence that befalls the mountain before it suddenly erupts into a volcano. Instead of turning and leaving, the Giant moved ahead of Vanitas before using his superior size to block the Demon's path.
"See, I was hired by someone to find out what happened to their friend. And I'm the kind of person to see a case through to the end, no matter how difficult or hopeless it seems. So, wanna hear about my case?"
Again the quietness of his voice made it difficult to hear his words, but something dangerous flashed behind the brown eyes that stared down.

"I don't help." Vanitas replied. "Anyone. Except for myself."
Vanitas sighed. He looked up at the giant looming over him. He barely expressed a thing other than his own weariness with everything. It was the same song and dance. He had been there before, except with a different police officer. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. This was all he did these days. Threaten here, fight there. He was questioning a lot lately. Too late to regret decisions. Those were made. The giant probably thought Vanitas would roll over on his own actions. Cower and quake before his size and rage.

Slowly, so slowly that it was almost painful, Ralph lowered his face until it was directly in front of Vanitas' own face and so close he couldn't look at anything else.
"Not even Terrance Nova?"

Vanitas almost laughed. Especially not Terrance Nobel. That whole ordeal had been entertaining for a little while, but then he had to live up to his name and try to be all noble. Terrance tried to kill him. Vanitas probably deserved it, but still, in a demon's mind it was kill or be killed. He shook his head. As if talking about the human he killed would lead to anything good. Not for him anyways. He knew he would eventually end up in prison, perhaps on death row, but he had no intent to hurry that along.
"I've got nothing to say." he said.

"Wrong answer."
Suddenly, Ralph's huge fist wrapped around Vanitas' neck and began to squeeze tight, enough to make it difficult to breath but not enough to cause suffocation....at least not yet.
"Lets go somewhere more private."
With that said, he gave the Demon a shove that forced him into a back alley, similar to what he had done on countless occasions when he'd been on the force and even now. Witnesses could always be a problem simply because they didn't have the facts and would always jump to the worst assumptions. Far better to question the Demon in an area where they weren't likely to be bothered.

Vanitas hadn't had time to react before a hand was around his throat. He was bullied into a dark alley way. Stupid giant. Shadows were all but Vanitas' home. The darkness made it easy to make what was going on but it was also the 'home field advantage' for the demon. Ralph could probably snap him like a twig, but he had his magic and darkness to prevent that from happening. He gave a heavy sigh. The one time he wasn't looking for a fight, it found him, it seemed. He wasn't even in the proper mood to enjoy it either. Shame on the giant.
"Yes, because beating the answers out of me has always worked in the past." Vanitas commented dryly.

"Oh, I don't need answers from you. I already know everything I need to about what you did to Terrance Nova."
With that said, Ralph pulled out a picture from his overalls and flung it on the ground at Vanitas' feet. It was a copy pulled from the evidence unit at BPD and consisted of a single badge that had once belonged to the disappeared officer. Aqua had given him the photograph and it was all he needed to know what had finally happened to the Faery's former partner.
"See, we found this little token in your apartment."

"Circumstantial at best," Vanitas replied coolly. "And evidence obtained without a warrant."
No judge or jury could prove that without a doubt he had something to do with Terrance’s disappearance. He did but that was beside the point. It had been long enough that the badge could have found its way into his hands one way or another. It could have been planted, it could have been left in his hideout from the last person, he could have picked it up with the intent of ‘turning it in’ or at least that’s what he could argue. He also knew he did not invite the police into his house to search his place. This only proved his suspicions that someone had broken in. That irritated him to no end. Who did they think they were?

"Well ain't it a good thing I'm not a cop."
And without any warning at all, Ralph brought one of his massive fists around and struck the demon squarely across his face, reining in his strength enough to only just avoid breaking bones. His face in that moment was set in a look of anger, but it was an anger that had consolidated into something so direct and focused, it was almost like a laser.
"The BPD might not be able to do anything while you hide behind some government official, but I don't play by anybody's rules but my own when it comes to dealing with filthy, parasitic Demons like you. Especially when you decide to play with a cop's life."

Vanitas didn't duck in time to avoid the hit. He was struck in the face and knocked back against the wall. Cornered between the wall and an angry giant. Just a typical night for the demon. A fight. He could already hear a lecture that Moses would have prepared for him if he happened to see him if he was severely injured. Again. He was going to try to avoid that as much as possible. Wasn't about to take a beating but really, he couldn't be bothered right now to fight back too much.
"You only care because you're paid to. Your 'client' is probably the only one looking for the guy." Vanitas replied. "Bet you make a pretty penny off these private investigations don't you?"

"Not really, no."
By this point Ralph had started to crack his knuckles, a look on his face stating that he was badly in need of some justice served to someone who had long avoided what they deserved.
"See, I keep things pretty cheap so that I can help those who've had the door shut in their face everywhere else. And I'm no fan of the BPD when they keep letting scum like you get away with everything as long as you have money or connections. Money doesn't have anything to do with it."

"Did I ask for your life story?" Vanitas spat.
He didn't care about Ralph's morals or how he was working for the 'little people'. No one was ever out just for themselves in this world. Ralph himself probably didn't even care for his clients after he was done with their cases. There was something in it for Ralph. Mostly because he got to vent his aggression on his 'targets' like what he was doing with Vanitas right there. That and he was being paid. Still using his police officer training in a semi-less than legal way. Becuase he doubted that any of Ralph's 'arrests' meant anything since he beat the tar out of his targets.
"Now, I'm going to tell you one more time, piss off or else."
