"Not boring. Just not my area of expertise." Axel shrugged. He raised a brow. Really? She wanted to know about him. "I uh, where to start?"
He wasn't really used to people wanting to know him. He was probably better when people talked to him about themselves and he just offer advice or something of the sort. He was the one on the side of the bar top that people told their problems to. Not vice versa. For the most part, he was pretty boring. He kept his nose clean nowadays. He didn't go out and party like he did when he was a just a bratty teenager. He had better control of his powers.
"You wouldn't really go where I work, blondie." he said. "Bartender by trade. Fire demon by nature."

"Depends. Which bar do you work at?"
Elsa asked this question lightly. Bellerouge was known for having lots of bars. A big controversy one year was, surprisingly, the names. A few others found several names of bars insulting to their species such as the Wolfskin or Yellow Eyes. Elsa had no idea, even now, what her true opinions were. The city was embracing its Other population with the names, though it could be true that some owners were doing it out of mean spiritedness.
"Bourbon Graisse is one of my favorites. No overpriced drinks." And now that Axel cane out as a fire demon, chances were hot toddies would be especially good.

"That's the one," Axel said. "Took over for the last bartender. He let things slide a bit."
To say the least. The place was a walking health hazard when Axel came in, but the good thing was, he had plenty of time to clean it up since then. He was fairly certain that if someone was so inclined, they could eat off the countertops (no plates). Granted the floor was gross no matter what you did, so a good mopping every night just had to suffice. It was a bar. Things got spilled. He wasn't about to give the waitresses a hard time about drunks. He just kicked the drunks out.

"Good. Because I did not approve of his treatment of some of the clients," Elsa replied.
The bar had certainly needed more than just an episode on Bar Rescue. It needed a full on recovery from the dead. The last time she had gone in was to listen in with her cop clients that had become her friends in what they were going to do about a child killer. That killer was now behind bars, with hardly any chance of a trial. And by some clients, she meant Others. Drunk Others could tear apart a place with just a sneeze if need be. Axel must have really cleaned up the joint.

"It can't be helped." Axel shrugged. "But he's gone now."
Axel was good about treating Others in his bar, seeing as he was one himself and had just admitted so to Elsa. She seemed unaffected which was good. He had been happy to serve Others at the bar. As long as people paid their tab at the end of the night, he was happy to welcome them back. If they didn't, they got blacklisted. Also, his rowdier customers or problem clients would get the boot. He hadn't had to do it yet, but he was not above bodily throwing someone out the door.

Of course it couldn't be helped. Elsa should have known better than to think about all the false hopes prejudice would just go away. But that didn't mean that she wouldn't stop fighting for the respect for Others. She said nothing to that remark, instead choosing to endulge in her ice cream. The humidity was beginning to soften it, which was fine by her for now. It was still cold, at least, which was all that mattered. Even she didn't like it when her ice cream had become frozen into being a whole new mineral.

"Ice powers, right? Bet that's useful." Axel commented. "That always been a thing for you?"
She didn't seem to want to talk about the bar. She liked her powers, used them even. Certainly safer than fire. Come too close and sizzle sizzle. Ice could be bad, but most people knew the dangers of fire better. At least it kept her ice cream cold. Much to Axel's amusement. She used her powers for such mundane things.

"Hereditary," Elsa answered quickly.
Yes, they had been a "thing" for her. A thing that her family had been with for years. Even with lineage roots, it was difficult to pinpoint where the ice powers began. Talking about it with an acquaintance was, well, awkward.
"It's useful in humidity. That and literally giving bullies the cold shoulder."

So she had people to show her how to use her powers. That must have been nice. Axel came into his powers when he started puberty. Along with the awkward voice changes and jumps in height, he experienced fire and ash along with horrible mood swings. She was a little more distant, so perhaps she had to watch how she 'felt' too. Otherwise things might get a little frosty.
"Surprised you didn't become an artist instead. Thought those snow sculpture people made a lot." Axel grinned.

"They need the money more than I do. To use your powers to create art is one thing, to actually put your own blood, sweat, and tears into a sculpture ith labor alone is more important," Elsa shrugged.
She opened her mouth to ask about Axel's abilities. But, then again, maybe it was something he didn't like discussing. Besides, the answers were written on his face. He may have acted carefree, but she knew fire plus a short temper equaled crimes that did not count as arson Just recently, she had defended a fire demon like Axel who had been accused of arson, saying the blaze had started from a sneeze, a mere accident.

"It's just natural talent. But I guess it could be more of a hobby if you don't want to do it professionally." Axel agreed.
Axel shrugged and leaned back against the park bench. It was rather calming, just sitting her and talking. He didn't need to mix drinks or pretend to be sympathetic to someone down on their luck. He had to pretend sometimes. Other times, the people made it easy to relate to them. Like Anna with her work stress or Shadow and his fear of taking his relationship with a good friend further. Some people would cry and complain to him about not having money for rent or electricity, but continue ordering drinks (which cost money). A stern lecture and possible threats set a few people straight but there was always that one stubborn one.

Elsa managed a smile. Just sitting with this bartender, Axel, and not talking about work was nice. It was like she wasn't on thin ice, figuratively of course, knowing something could be use against her. She was about to say something else when her phone buzzed. Her paralegal was calling her; good, maybe there was some help for a client.
"Oops. Duty calls." She took one final bite of the ice cream before freezing the empty cup and tossing it into the trash. She looked back at him. "Oh, and...nice to meet you, Axel."

"Go save the world, blondie," Axel chuckled.
It must have been a real pain to have a job like hers where she was constantly on call. His job would have kept him on but they couldn't afford to pay him for every double he pulled. Instead, the called on a new bartender. Axel already got paid well enough as it was. He didn't need to push his luck. Also, he wasn't married to his work. Elsa's work was way more important than mixing drinks. People could live without alcohol, despite their protests that they couldn't.
"It was nice to meet you too, Elsa." he agreed.

Elsa returned the teasing nickname with a chuckle. Maybe she had a reason to go back to the Bourbon. If not for the changes policies and because her friend slash clientelle went. But for Axel, the fire demon bartender she shared ice cream with ((End thread))
