Axel yawned. The day was cool, crisp even. He had finally gotten a day off from the bar but was unused to the hours of that sort of day. However, groceries were an important thing. After running that errand, he figured he would burn off some excess energy by walking the waterfront. With his hands in his pockets and a jacket, he strolled along leisurely. He had nothing better to do with his time so far. The walk was also rather relaxing. He had even found a place that had served his favorite type of ice cream and was now sucking on the stick. Wouldn't be able to dine on ice cream for much longer. Winter would be rolling in soon.

Elsa tucked her pockets deeper into her ice-blue tinted pea coat. Normally, cool weather didn't bother her. But with the shock that her worst enemy had done the unthinkable, barging onto a group of children, had chilled her. The caretaker may have been a criminal, but her crimes were minor. Not one to lay siege on the group...especially given what the girl had gone through. However, the cold wasn't so bad to keep her from ordering ice cream. She stopped at a place where a resheaded man was slurping on a stick. Apparently she wasn't the only one craving it. Elsa ordered a Tahitian vanilla, not even phased by the reaction the cashier had seeing her glistening credit card.

"Looks like I'm not the only one with a craving," he teased.
He tossed his finished Popsicle stick into the trash. A slow grin spread across his face at the woman who was treating herself to perhaps her last ice cream of the season. Wouldn't be long now before the shops closed up for the winter to keep from loosing revenue. Winter was cold enough without ice cream. A lot of people did not want an even colder food product when the weather could reach below zero as it was. But the woman was tense, unhappy. A bit silly, Axel thought, on a day like today it was meant to be enjoyed.

The customer in the ice cream area spoke out loud, and it took Elsa a minute to realize he was talking to her. She had been tucking her card back into her wallet, which she hid in the pocket of her coat. Folding her hands, which weren't incased in gloves, she nodded in agreement. Louisiana winters were chilly, but never enough to get snowy and cold. She provided that snow for herself in her mansion. "Iced drinks weren't going to be enough. I needed something with a bit more sweetness, you know what I mean?"

"Personally, their sea salt ice cream hits the spot. Salty and sweet." Axel shrugged.
Ice drinks? This late in the season? She looked like the type to chew on ice cubes or something too. Frosty. She probably would have taken alcohol on the rocks, if she actually drank alcohol at all. He supposed it was the bartender in him, trying to figure out how people took their drinks. Though she was also probably a white wine girl, judging by the daintiness that seemed to follow her. A sweet white.
"But yeah, totally understand. Glad this place was still open."

"Oh, you like their sea salt, too?" Elsa's rich girl demeanor must have slipped away from her blue eyes lighting up. "I was going to order that, but I'm salty towards someone enough, don't need to add anymore, other wise I'd be an ocean." She cringed at her horrible wordplay. Maybe she had spent far too much time with the people in Lieu Sanglate. That and she made a serious boo-boo in terms of her job. The good news was she didn't let any confidential information slip.

"Got one every time I passed by." Axel said. "But seems like you've had a bad day. Want to talk about it?"
He supposed that was one of his work habits too. Though he had no drink to help her ease her mind. Someone had obviously pissed her off enough that she was put off a brand of ice cream she liked. He motioned for her to join him at a nearby park bench. She had no reason to linger and talk. He was a stranger. A darkly dressed, tattooed stranger at best. She was dressed a little nicer, probably from a better end of town.

Elsa looked around each edge. Well, she didn't see anyone who was going to sit with her, ssome rich girl with a craving for ice cream. The bell rang, signaling her order. She picked up the white cream, flecked with black-brown specks of fresh ground vanilla, and joined the redhead on the bench. In her touch, frost gathered at the base, keeping the ice cream from turning to mush in the humidity.
"Let's just say that my worst enemy reared his ugly head by picking on innocent kids." Well, that was safe enough to say without getting in trouble.

Axel let out a low breath to keep from an outburst. He managed that quite well. The only sign of discomfort for him was a look of annoyance. Calm, he told himself. Remain calm. No reason to cause a flare up because of his temper. And she was keeping things vague, probably to keep some stranger like him from busting in or burning anyone. Though she was likely to not know about his fire powers. He understood. No need to go all vigilante on some guy, even if he probably deserved it. No. He had to focus on what was important. The kids.
"I hate bullies." he hissed through his teeth. "The kids okay?"

Elsa took note of the redhead's reaction. It seemed...half annoyed, half angry. But a big notice was a sort of restraint in his expression. She had done the same thing when learning to control her own power over ice. Even with all her control tactics, Elsa often froze things without meaning to.
"That makes two of us. Bullies were one the reasons I became a lawyer." After stating that, she took a very unladylike bite of ice cream. Around a mouthful, she added. "and yes, the kids made it out okay."

"So this is case related?" He inquired. "Got it."
A lawyer. Explained a lot. From the well kept up appearance to the credit card she paid with. She came from money, or had at least earned a lot of it. Ironic she was sitting with him, a lowly bartender. She probably wouldn’t even know unless he told her. He also knew she couldn’t give him details of the case. It was probably for the best because he might have tried to go after this guy and break his ‘no-fire’ streak. He hadn’t set anything ablaze in a very long time. Didn't need to go starting now.
"If the kids are okay, that’s all that matters then."

Elsa's reply to that was just a nod. She had been trying to be much more open, but it all seemed so hard when the world seemed to be against her. She only felt the most comfortable in the department buildings or her usual haunts. Perhaps it was normal to be withdrawn after going through trauma. Her hand shot up to her neck instinctively. The bruises from her assailant had healed since then, but she couldn't forget the feeling

"It's okay. I get it. Work is work. Best to leave it there." Axel shrugged. "So... let's move past that. The name's Axel. Got it memorized?"
He grinned and tapped the side of his head. His smirk did falter a little when she grabbed her neck. Did she think he was going to choke her out? He leaned back a little, giving her space. He didn't want her to think he was trying to get too close. Or freak out. He would really rather avoid any sort of scuffle if he could avoid it. He wanted to maintain his fire-less streak.

"Elsa Crispin."
Well, if she was going to be more open, better to actually introduce herself and not just hand out her business card. Axel seemed nice enough, and then again, he was the only one out at riverfront in the fall with ice cream. Her hand lowered from her neck, choosing to focus on the present, not some near miss robbery slash assault slash...no, she thought, don't think about that. Just talk with Axel.

"You okay there blondie?" he asked. "You seem a little tense."
That wasn't just his sixth sense - his 'bartender' sense - tingling there. Elsa seemed visibly upset. She hadn't even touched her ice cream since she told him about this enemy of hers going after kids. She obviously had a lot on her mind. She also probably didn't want to unload those problems to an absolute stranger, but she looked so shaken he had to at least ask. She could brush him off if she liked.
