"Show yourself! Admit it; you took them from me! You took them because you knew you would never have something with Adeline like I did with Maria."
The black void that Pitch used wasn't going to get him far. Hiding was a coward's trick. Vanitas did it once, and any other demon who copied the motion was just as cowardly as he was. Shadow hurdled overturned desks. The yellow lights and shifting was the only thing that gave Pitch away.
"You stole them because you knew you could never feel anything."

Suddenly, the shadows condensed into a vaguely human shape on the far side of the offices, the twin glowing orbs a sure sign that it was Pitch. A voice began to speak, but it seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere all at once.
"And look how your much flaunted emotions have misled you, Shadow, taken possession of you. You have let yourself become a pawn to your own feelings and the whims of Disparion."
The human silhouette disappeared in the next moment only to appear in another spot by one of the shattered windows. Outside, the sound of alarms could be heard blaring from the building and he knew that BPD forces would arrive at any moment, but they would only be placing themselves in danger. Shadow was out of control by this point, but his focus was mostly on himself. However, he doubted that would stop Shadow from attacking anyone who got in his way at this point.
If he could find some way to subdue the homunculus then no blood needed to be shed. The question was how? He had to find a way and quickly before anyone else got involved.
Raising a hand, the shadows condensed themselves into equestrian shapes, at least half a dozen of them, which began to advance on Shadow. Meanwhile, Pitch sent a more discrete tendril of darkness along the floor, a serpentine shadow that silently approached the out of control officer along the debris of the floor. Hopefully the Nightmares would distract Shadow enough so that the shadow creeping along the ground could get a hold of the homunculus and incase him in a shield of shades.

The screeching of the alarms, the bell ringing of the ones outside of the department and even Pitch's trick of shade to try and throw him off meant nothing. The noise was tuned out entirely. Even the sprinklers were coming on, pouring an artifical rain in the offices. The reports were getting wet, but once again, Shadow had absolutely no interest in cleaning it up. He narrowed his eyes, focusing on the two yellow orbs.
He had no response to Pitch. Instead, he shot forward. The jets in his skates were now acting as quick acting propellers, rocketing him to Pitch. But just before he could even punch the demon, Pitch disappeared, reappearing by a broken window.
An opening. Perfect. Just one little push, and Pitch would be on the streets below. It wouldn't kill him, but just the knockout would give Shadow satisfaction. It would be one target down, then he could move on to everyone else who had turned his life to hell. Like the coward he was, Pitch sent forth his Nightmares. The black steeds were often used as extra pairs of eyes during missions. But now, they were being used as a minor distraction. Shadow huffed in irration. If he wasn't angry at Pitch enough, this was now just an annoyance.
Airborne, he fired four chaos spears. In neigh-shriek sound effects, the Nightmares disentegrated. Another wave was demolished as he razed them with well-time spin attacks. One thing about hedgehog spikes, they could shred with enough speed. He landed after striking down one more. He was about to go...
When he was pulled by his ankles onto the floor by an unseen force.
Blackness was obscuring his vision as he was pinned down. "No!" He shot blindly, trying to light up the shade, just anything to see through the darkness.

Shadow quickly reduced the Nightmares to piles of black sand, using his anger to fuel his powers and destroy Pitch's minions. However, as he turned his attention towards the Demon himself, his last shadow sprang into action and wrapped around the homunculus' ankle just as he prepared to strike at Pitch.
Immediately, Pitch brought his hand forward and clenched his fist, the ribbon of darkness responding perfectly to his command and encasing Shadow completely. Shadow thrashed about violently in his dark cocoon, desperately trying to fight his way out. It took a great deal of concentration on Pitch's part to keep Shadow confined, but he managed it. Stepping closer to the entrapped officer with his fist clenched tightly, Pitch began to speak.
"Open your eyes, Shadow. I am a great many things, but never a thief. You seek to blame me for the loss of your memories, to believe that I stole them from you for some personal gain, but I never took your memories. They were given to me freely by your own two hands!"

Shadow still fought against the dark cocoon. If it suffocated him, it didn't matter. He only had his head free, which was, for now the really goal. The rest of him was encased. No matter how hard he pulled, he couldn't break free. He glared at Pitch, his struggling slowing down but his enraged eyes wanted to shoot the demon out the window.
"Why would I hand them over to you? I never trusted you."

"Because you wanted to forget."
Despite the fact that Shadow wasn't fighting as much, Pitch still kept a firm hold on the darkness restraining him. He was close enough now that he knelt down onto one knee, his gaze on a better level with the homunculus.
"You wanted me to remove everything in your past so that you would have a chance to create your own future, to have a life and to grow beyond the limits of what you were made for. The only thing you wanted to hold on to was your memories of her."
Suddenly, Pitch flung the picture of Maria on the ground in front of Shadow, the image settling over the debris that coated the floor. He had somehow managed to grab it during the chaos of the fight and now the young girl smiled up at Shadow as the BPD office lay in ruins around them and sirens continued to blare.

If Shadow's hands weren't pinned, he would have decked Pitch in the face. The demon kneeling his face, smelling like must and sand and everything associated with darkness. His wrists began burning intensely.
No, not the rings. If those were off, this office would be blown sky high. He just wanted Pitch, not the whole squad!
Between his rage and is reluctance to give into using his full power, Shadow's mind was pounding. That pain was worse than being pinned down by Pitch's darkness. He winced as it throbbed. Migraines were one thing, but to have this much agony pounding in his head was ten times worse. He went in and out of vision fields. One minute, he was in the present glaring at Pitch, but another minute he was having flashbacks. At the present, the picture of Maria he had was being presented to him. Her innocent blue eyes were smiling despite her sickly features. Why hadn't he noticed those earlier? Another flashback took him, this flashback he had was one that was completely new.
"Go after the professor! We can't let them get away!"
Military officers were running every which way, Red flashes and sirens were blaring through the glass paned walls. Before, these halls were teaming with people in lab coats and vials. Now all the doors were being pried open by gunshots. Gunshots held by teams in bulletproof gear. Maria was staring in fear up at several people with the guns. They had been arresting scientists, and some were watching the fleeing figure of Professor Gerald. One soldier turned around, taking note of Maria watching them from a console board.
"Stop!"
Maria gasped, and ran. The speed she was going was too dangerous for her heart and her brain, but she kept going, even when a pulse-meter started beeping. "Shadow! Help me!" Both her voice and her out-of-breath panting had caused Shadow, who had been hiding himself behind a console, turn. She clutched her heart beneath her blazer, rasping through breaths. "Shadow, please! We have to go!"
"What is it?"
"I don't know! Grandpa's experiments must have gotten lose! There are men with guns. I don't know what they want! Grandpa said to get to the escape hatch, but I don't know what that means. Please, Shadow!" Her eyes were blurring in unshed tears. If fear could be drawn in an expression, it would be her face
Shadow had recognized that same fear in Sunshine when they first met. No doubt that same face would be given when he saw the array of her desk after the blow up. He wrestled through the shades again, the agony coming back. He was yelling outwardly now, not just inwardly.
Shadow and Maria ran through the halls, hand in hand. Behind her, Shadow could see three soliders trudging after them. With their visors over their eyes, none of them looked pleasant to be around.
"The primary target and the girl have been located! En route to intercept!"
That was the only voice Shadow heard as Maria rushed them to the escape pods. She closed the door behind them, sealing into the lock mode. Her whole body was trembling. She needed to sit. The only place she could find was against the wall. Despite having unshed tears in her eyes and falling into a coughing fit, Shadow didn't dare approach. He had been told that people with her sickness needed time to rest and recover on their own. He watched her stand and approach the control panel for an escape pod. He placed her hand on the pad. As it was reading for an approval, there were gunshots echoing outside. Shadow braced himself to fight.
"Freeze!"
Both Maria and Shadow turned. Facing them were five men. One was holding a gun, ready to aim.
"Get your hand off of that lever, young lady. We're not joking!"
Maria's fearful expression became determined. She gripped the lever with both hands. Shadow took seconds to figure out what was going on. If Maria complied, they'd take her away. If she defied them, she'd be shot. He stepped forward, ready to assist no matter what the cost. All he got was a closing off the escape pod, trapping him in a glass wall. He punched and kicked, but it was no use. There was nothing he could do.
Maria pulled the lever.
The man with the gun fired.
All Shadow could so was cry out her name as she collasped in front of him.
"Humans. Willing to sacrifice their own when overcome by greed. Wouldn't you agree, Pitch Black?"
Out of nowhere appeared a tentacled figure, set in with angry red eye veined in yellow. It blinked once, and in so doing, all the darkness hugging Shadow tightly had been decimated. The black and red hedgehog-homunculus gasped for air, his mind still swirling between the memory and reality. He was petrified, standing exactly where he was, settled on all fours and one hand coming to hold his throbbing head.
"Yes. I have not forgotten you."

Pitch watched Shadow in silence and could sense the a memory slowly surfacing, rising up from his subconscious after so many years of being lost. He could sense the pain in the homunculus as his mind struggled towards some truth and he waited. The anger seemed to be draining out of him and anguish seemed to take its place.
"I am not your enemy, Shadow."
Pitch words were filled with a steely conviction and a certainty. However, before he could say or do anything else, a voice spoke in the ruins of the office.
The Terror Demon felt himself freeze, his blood turning to ice in his veins as that voice, a voice completely inhuman, spoke to him. Suddenly, a terrible burning pain descended on the hand he was using to control the shadows, smoke rising from his fist. Before he could do anything but take several steps away from Shadow, he was forced to relinquish his control.
A large burn marked the flesh of his palm but he hardly seemed to notice. Instead, Pitch's yellow gaze was locked onto the figure that had appeared, a being with tentacles and a single, horrible red eye. And it was looking at him.
"You...."
Pitch's voice suddenly faltered, his mind as close to fear as it had ever been in his existence. A part of him, the ancient blood of Demonkind, urged him to kneel before this horrifying figure, to follow his orders and obey him as if he were his master. However, something kept him on his feet...
Suddenly, his unburned hand convulsively went to his chest where the Promise Scar lay. It lay warm under the fabric of his robe where the rest of his body was cold as ice. And even though he didn't understand why, he knew it was the only reason he had not yet knelt in supplication to the dark figure.

"...But you were never my friend, either..."
The convinction might have been Pitch's point of view, but for Shadow, he couldn't buy anything. He was about to stand up to go at it again, until the familar, dark whisper of Disparion cut in, putting Shsdow back in his place on uncertainty. The tentacled eye was glaring at Pitch and a new emotion crossed the demon Shadow had never seen before.
Fear.
"Shadow," the eye of Disparion turned to look at him. "he is weak. He has betrayed my army years ago. You were created to dominate all demons. Show him no mercy."
"No."
"What?"
"I may have been trained by you, but I have another training. That training is of this department, and the one lesson I take to heart; no one leaves their comrades near death. Not even if they betrayed the other." Shadow's red eyes locked long and hard with the tentacled red eye. Something inside him was making him defy the very monster who had set his rage under his control; he was going out on a limb saying Disparion was what made him angry, but it was the only explanation why his inhibitor rings were becoming so itchy, so burning, why he almost wanted to take them off but refused to do so.
The stare-off lasted for a solid three minutes. Disparion's voice chuckled grimly before floating out of the rubble. Footfalls were rushing in, and he heard an audible gasp.
Sunshine was at the head, her green eyes lit up in fear.
No, That was the last thing he needed to see from her. Shadow had to get out of here. He had caused enough damage as it was. He closed and focused, thinking of somewhere quiet. It wasn't much of a hideout, but he did have somewhere to escape. A flash of yellow was the last thing everyone saw of Shadow Griffiths that day.

Pitch might have somehow managed to remain on his feet despite the power of the being before him, but he could no longer seem to find the strength or control to move. Never before in his existence had he ever felt fear touch him, but Disparion was beyond anything that even he had faced in his time on Earth. Resisting him was like trying to resist his own nature, the very things that made him who he was, and it took all of his energy just to remain standing.
It was then that Disparion turned his focus to Shadow and ordered him to attack. Pitch didn't know if he had the power to defend himself against the homunculus but he couldn't just stand there and leave himself completely open. So why was it so hard to move? His muscles felt as if they had seized completely and his mind couldn't seem to come up with any sort of plan. All he could do was watch and wait. Disparion said that Shadow had been made to dominate all demons.....and in that moment Pitch believed it.
But suddenly, something completely unexpected happened. Despite the anger and distrust still lurking in his eyes, Shadow refused to attack him. For a time the two forces merely stared each other down. It was only then that Pitch heard the sound of approaching feet coming towards them. He finally managed to turn his head just in time to see Sunshine step into the doorway, her green eyes growing large in fear and confusion. Suddenly, Pitch's paralysis broke and he stepped back from the demonic eye watching them all.
"Sunshine, get out of here now!"
However, before he could do anything more, a flash of pure light fill the room, blinding everyone. Pitch threw up his arm to protect his eyes and when he looked back, both Shadow and Disparion were gone. Pitch slowly lowered his arm and looked at the spot where they had disappeared from, but he knew better then to think that whatever was happening in Bellerouge was over.
No, if anything it was just beginning.

"Shadow, wait!"
Those were the only words Sunshine got out before Shadow disappeared. The offices were a complete wreck. Files and folders had been strew about. Desks were thrown askew. One window was completely obliterated, which was the only bit of collateral damage the offices had. She looked from the damage to Pitch to where Shadow had been. She had so many questions, all of which she knew would be impossible to answer right now. The one thing she did know was Shadow had disappeared, looking almost ashamed.
"Shadow..." she murmured sadly. ((end thread))
