Vanitas didn't look up when Pitch came into the room. He was caught. There would be no getting out of this. No lawyer would be able to argue him out of what he had done. He gave himself up - at Moses' request no less. That's the infuriating part. It was like once the Halfling came into the room, Vanitas could just feel the disappointment the other felt in him. Without his bargaining chips, fighting off the police had gone downhill.
Actually, he hadn't fought back. Hadn't resisted. He still wasn't fighting back, even now. His wrists were chained to the table. His feet, chained to the floor. Perhaps to keep him from going anywhere. But where would he go? His 'hideout' was compromised now. He couldn't go running back to Moses like a whipped dog with it's tail between it's legs. The only person Vanitas had started to trust betrayed him. Again. It was only proof that he was right. He never should have gotten close to anyone, never should have trusted anyone ever again. But the decision had been his...
The city would see him fry for this.

When Pitch entered the interrogation room, the scene was almost exactly like the last time Vanitas had been in for questioning. The only difference wasn't something that could be seen but rather felt. As he stepped into the room, he only had to look at the Demon chained to the table and he could sense the difference. Before, Vanitas had been arrogant, cocky and hot-headed. Now, he might as well have been an entirely different person.
"Oh how the mighty have fallen."
Pitch spoke the words softly, but it was said more like a statement instead of a sarcastic remark. Slowly, he walked over to the table and pulled out the chair opposite Vanitas, sitting down but saying nothing into the silence that surrounded them. Instead, his golden eyes took in Vanitas, reading the emotions coming off of him in silence.

"I'll write you a list," Vanitas said, still not looking up. "Of everyone I've killed and where the bodies are."
He figured he may as well as talk. Something. Anything to save his life. Ruined because he couldn't say no to the Halfling. Why couldn't he say no? He had done it to so many others in the past. It had been so easy. The brat took everything from Vanitas and still, the demon couldn’t find it in himself to be angry with him. He was more or less disappointed in himself for thinking that it would turn out differently. He didn’t have to give into Moses’ request the way he did, but at this point, Vanitas was tired of fighting. He had nothing left to lose but his life at this point. With the body count he left behind him, it was very likely, but he had to try.
"I'll name every criminal I was ever involved with. As long as you take the death penalty off the table." he said. "I'll do whatever time your courts think I deserve."
Of course that meant criminals that didn’t include Moses. He was also not a criminal, aside from harboring a fugitive of the law, but Vanitas would be quick to dispel that. Say he threatened him or something. Say he forced Moses to help him. Say that Vanitas used some spell on him to convince him to let the girls go. The kid wouldn’t be able to handle the jail time. Moses would end up as some demon’s plaything no matter how rough and tough he played it. But there it was. Vanitas was pleading for his life without actually breaking down and begging for it. The police would probably fight for it. He knew the faery would even if she was a Seelie since Vanitas had literally taken her partner and lover.
He would serve the time in jail, but his life was the only thing he had left.

"Save your requests for the lawyer. As for a list, we'll want full accounts of your crimes when the time comes. However, that's not why I'm here."
Pitch spoke but his gaze never wavered from Vanitas face. Even if Vanitas refused to give information on any of his previous crimes, they already had him on the double count of kidnapping and intent to harm. That alone was enough to put him away for some time. No, he would leave sorting out the details to someone else. Right now, there was only one topic he wanted to discuss with his fellow demon.
"I'm here to talk about Moses Gradely."

And of course Pitch wanted to talk about Moses. Probably that jerk's idea to send Moses into Vanitas' hideout in the first place. Vanitas opened his mouth before closing it. Couldn't deny knowing him. Moses probably pulled that string to get that phone call in the first place. And he led the police to Vanitas' back door. So he obviously showed the police he knew about him. The kid let himself in with the damned key after all. Now... How to play this without dragging Moses through the dirt any more than he had to?
"What about him?" Vanitas asked.

Vanitas opened his mouth before quickly closing it and once more lowering his gaze. Clearly this topic was even more sensitive to him then he wanted to let on. However, Pitch waited to see how Vanitas would play his last hand of cards.
"I want to know how a half-Demon struggling to control his darker nature ends up getting involved with the likes of you and how he somehow managed to bring you to your knees without any bloodshed."
His tone was dead calm but also weighed with a level of seriousness that only Pitch could manage to convey. His posture was still relaxed, his voice quiet, but still his eyes didn't break away from Vanitas.

"That moron is a bleeding heart. I just took advantage of it." Vanitas replied.
True. In a way. Moses found him in the alley after he had been blinded, helped him inside and tended to him in his blindness. Then after he was stabbed by the emerald bullet by Pitch no less, he found Moses' apartment, let himself in, took medical supplies to bandage himself up and the idiot made him dinner. And the third time Vanitas could just say they used each other physically. Lust was lust and both were equally sated after that. Moses seemed to think so highly of Vanitas. No one had done that since he was a kid. It just pissed Vanitas off that the Halfling had become his undoing.
"I gave up because you and your little friends would have loved to put an emerald bullet in my head and call it a day." he sneered. "I'm not going out like that."
He didn't want to die by emerald. That's how his parents went, during the Black War. Vanitas had to watch as the emeralds literally burned them from the inside out. It had been one of the most horrible experiences of his childhood. But with Pitch hinting at something else, it kicked Vanitas' ass back into gear and brought the little jerk down to earth. The fight in him was back. If Pitch kept going the way he was going, then he was going to have to ask for that public defender his Miranda rights assured him.

Pitch didn't react at first to what Vanitas was saying and merely observed him. The Demon gave all the responses that were once typical of him, but there was no heat or threat to the words. It was more like he was reading off of a script now.
"And yet you could have fled with your two hostages. You could have taken Moses himself as another hostage, but you didn't."
He spoke the words slowly, softly. Vanitas could have done a million different things instead of giving himself up to the police without a fight. And he had been willing to at first, until Moses had arrived. Then the fight had simply gone out of him.

"I'm quite flattered you think I could restrain three hostages, fight off your entire unit and make my escape." Vanitas replied airily.
If Moses hadn't been involved, he probably just would have dropped Jane and taken off with Namine. The blonde was easier to control, didn't fight back and it would have been a real kick in the teeth to Omar because the troll had forgotten her. He also wouldn't have gotten far with Moses who would have cried and protested that this was his home and he wasn't going to ditch town because Vanitas was being obstinate. It was over after Moses showed them how to get in. Granted, it took Moses' pleading for him to realize that if he fought back he was literally going to die, but he did pick the option that benefited him the most.

"Oh, we both know you wouldn't have gotten very far. Still, you've tried plenty of reckless acts before despite a low likelihood for success. No, what's gotten the BPD all in a buzz is that you would hand yourself over so willingly on the plea from someone like Moses. It's even got some people questioning if Moses is as harmless as he seems."
Pitch let that thought end on a open note, allowing Vanitas the chance to draw whatever conclusions he wanted. He himself knew that, for the most part, Moses wasn't a bad kid. True, he had his struggle with being half-Demon but he was hardly the first of that kind and he'd made it clear to Pitch that he didn't want to give into his eviler nature. Still, plenty of people wondered if he wasn't somehow linked to Vanitas' crimes, that he had somehow been involved and was a partner to the Demon who had acted behind the scenes.
If the speculations continued at the rate they were growing, Moses could find himself in a very bad situation simply because of his association with Vanitas.

"You're awful concerned about that useless little idiot." Vanitas muttered. "Tell me, why'd you send him after me if you're so concerned? Why'd you let him?"
Deflection. Answer a question with another question. To be fair, Vanitas was honestly curious why Pitch thought it was a good idea to send Moses in. An unarmed civilian against a demon with weapons, shadows, two hostages and nothing to lose except his life. Pitch could have just as easily used the door after Moses showed it to him and taken Vanitas into custody by force. People would have gotten hurt, but Vanitas was kicking himself for letting go so easily. He didn't even know why he gave up. It was infuriating. If anything, Moses should have been hailed as a hero for stopping the 'big bad demon' from killing the two 'innocent' civilians. The media would take that as they would. Moses dug his own grave so Vanitas didn't feel sorry for him if it got him into any sort of trouble. If he hadn't wanted trouble, he wouldn't have gotten involved.
"Hope that we'd kill each other?" Vantias mocked.

"Simple. He volunteered and the Commissioner gave the go-ahead. If you were smarter, you would have kept your...involvement and the time you spent with him concealed."
Pitch let the word 'involvement' hang wide open, allowing Vanitas to fill in the blank however he wanted. Often times he had hated how rife gossip and rumor were in the streets of Bellerouge, some of it always finding its way to the BPD and creating numerous issues for the detectives. However, some of the accounts and information spread held a nugget of truth that could be quite useful and the information they had received on Moses and Vanitas had been just that.
He continued to lounge in his chair and watch Vantias writhe. Whether or not Vanitas talked mattered little in the end. They already had him on several accounts and even if they couldn't pin all the crimes he was responsible for on him, there was no escape this time. In fact, one of the only reasons Pitch was speaking to him now was to see if he would take Moses down with him or not.
"We're done here then."
And without another word or explanation, Pitch rose from his seat and headed towards the door.

There were no witnesses of said involvement so Vanitas wasn't sure where Pitch was getting this information from. He didn't exactly go around telling people he was around Moses. And unless Moses was bragging about 'taming' a full demon, then Pitch had no proof there even was an 'involvement' in the first place. Sure he could say 'I know him' but that was different from whatever else Pitch was insinuating. Vanitas kept his mouth shut. The little thugs that tried to take advantage of Moses were dead. Vanitas saw to that. Might not have killed them himself, but he saw to it that they were gone and off the streets, more than he could say than the police.
"Guess this conversation is over then," he sneered.
He would have to twist his lawyer into getting him off the death penalty. There was no way Vanitas was going to let the BPD take his life without a fight. He should have just fought back. Should have killed those stupid girls and be done with it. He was seething inwardly because he hadn't.
