Jane grinned. She took the new drink as it was brought to her, this time slowing her pace a little. She had to go back to Namine. Probably wouldn't do if she was hammered out of her mind. Maybe she should text her dad and see if he would just stay so Jane could drink. That way, she could go back to her place after it was all said and done and sleep it off.
"Long story." Jane snorted. If she delved into that, she might start drinking more. "We got separated a long time ago. But we found each other now."

Red glanced at her drinking partner with interest. "That's an interestin hook. So you an yo dad haven't seen each otha for a long time. I guess that makes sense" Red began long, slow sips on her drink, considering asking for more information on Jane's past but decided that was a can of worms better left alone for now. "Well, glad you found each otha" she paused and sighed. "Everyone I love is gone. Least you got yo dad back"

"The police picked me up after my mom died. Didn't bother to check if I had family. I ended up in foster care." Jane said. "I mean, all things considering, it could have been worse, but dad missed out on a lot of things I would have liked to have had him there for."
She sighed. It was a bit annoying. The police had frustrated her beyond belief. She had to deal with a lot more than just a slight miscommunication. It had ate up more of her life than she cared to admit. There were things that just couldn't be amended just because the police were 'sorry' that it happened to her. But Red lost everyone. Jane lost her mother and her brother. But they were the only family she knew. Her father's family was limited to his ex-lovers and his other children, but he focused on their small family unit. Her mother, well, Jane never met her mother's side of the family.
"I'm... luckier than most," Jane admitted. "And I'm sorry about your loss."

"Sorry ta hear that" Red said with feeling. That was horrible that that had happened to Jane. "Not a fan o cops then dearie?" this was awkward. Red worked closely with and greatly respected those in blue. They made streets safe. Only reason she wasn't one of them officially was because she preferred working outside regulations that held the cops back. "Least you have yo daddy now" Red stated gently. "An it's fine. I'm able to function so there's that. I miss em, m'brotha an m'fiance but I live for their memories an that's what matters"

"Not really." Jane said. "They're necessary but there's not much I can do about them."
Granted, they stepped in when her father couldn't but really, it was that civilian who talked the demon down. The cops were too cowardly to send in their own forces. But judging by Red's expression, the other woman seemed to like the police, or at least didn't hate them as much as Jane did. She supposed very few people hated the police as much as she did.
"I thought I lost everyone. I spent years not knowing but, yeah, I'm just happy I have someone." Jane said.
She didn't know what she would have done if her dad had been dead too. Maybe she would have gone on a rampage at the BPD offices or something. Her fury at the police force would have been justified. They had taken years from her life, years that would have been happier spent with family, not the humans who thought that if she 'suppressed' her troll side, she would have ben the ideal daughter. She would have never been what they wanted her to be.

"Lemme guess, they the ones that took you from yo daddy?" if she had to make a stab in the dark, that seemed the most likely. Red sipped on her drink. "That's rough. I don't know why they'd do that to ya" Red nodded and sighed again. "My fiance was killed in a pointless fight wi a idiot. He's on th run. Why I became a bounty hunter. Least you got someone. I jus got revenge"

"That's right." Jane muttered.
She finished half of her drink by that point. Her third for the night. She was starting to feel the buzz, but that was it, a buzz. She wasn't drunk yet, but she certainly didn't like talking about her past. Red might be going after the person who caused all her heartache, but Jane never knew what happened or how her mother and brother died. She certainly didn't want to know. Because if she found out, she might have just lost her mind. She liked to imagine it was quick and painless. Mostly so she didn't feel guilty for running the way she had.
"People are stupid."

"People might be stupid, an they are, specially most humans, but ya gotta deal. Even the dead used ta be people once" Red said, propping her chin on her hand as she leaned against the bar. "Not erraybody's stupid though. D'ya think yo daddy's stupid darlin? Or ya friends? Or d'ya just think th people who wronged ya are stupid" Red's face scrunched into a smile. "Bias, ya gotta look out fer it"

"I'm not sober enough for a conversation like that," Jane said.
She loved her father and the few friends she made while she came back to the city. But she was frustrated by the way things had 'stayed the same' since she was sent away. But she could be as bitter and angry as she wanted to be when she was alone. There was no need for her to subject Red to her own biases against the police and the people who supported them.

Red laughed and shrugged. "Tha's fine. Errayone got their limits" Red continued sipping on her drink and sighed happily. "Okay, happier topics now, yea? This is a celebration afta all. I got a high-end target caught an thrown in th slamma! I'm supa happy bout this, ya see. I'm killin it here an I couldn't be more ecstatic"

"Congrats." Jane said, raising her drink. "Good to know there's one more scumbag off the streets."
Granted, Jane was happy. Vanitas was behind bars. His arrest was official. He wasn't going to wiggle his way out of this one. He was going to go to jail whether he wanted to or not. Keeping him there might prove to be difficult but that was on the police. So it wasn't her problem anymore. If only Namine saw it the same way. The little blonde was petrified he was going to get out and kill her.

"Former general. Did a lot of nasty things durin th war an after" Red said with a smirk. "Him behind bars makes the streets a lot safer, lemme tell ya. Glad I caught im" She drained her drink and drummed her fingers on the tabletop. What to do, what to do...She didn't feel like drinking anymore, but she didn't want to go to her apartment yet. She just wanted to be out and about and ride off this victory high she was feeling right now.

"Sounds like a real winner." Jane remarked. "So how'd you catch him?"
Now that sounded like a good story. Red probably had her work cut out for her. This guy had power and probably friends to back him up. Not to mention, they didn't hand out 'general' titles like party favors so he had to work his way up the ranks in order to get where he used to be. Jane was actually now very glad that two dangerous men were off the streets.

Red grinned. "I pretended to be a lady of the streets. He has a weakspot for redheads. I got him nice an vulnerable in a taxi and disarmed him. I shoved his own gun inta his stomach and had th taxi take us to the station. I'd also gotten him taped boastin about a whole lotta things. From sellin women an Othas to havin lackeys steal from banks. It was a fine catch. Th' department was pretty impressed wi me, lemme tell ya. An I did it without shootin" she was proud of her prowess. Made her feel pretty good.

"Very nice." Jane laughed.
Certainly a good idea to play at their weakness. For most men, it was a pretty woman. Red played at her own strengths. It was a solid plan. The recordings and the confessions were only the icing on the cake. She laughed to herself considering that guys like that general always tended to boast themselves into a corner. It served him right.
"Wish I could have seen the looks on their faces when you brought that 'gem' in."
