He set his cake down and hugged Namine fully, stroking her hair and holding her tight. "Forgetting isn't the answer. You'll just wonder for ever what was lost. And you might lose more than you bargained for. No, it may seem easier and better but you shouldn't want to lose your memories. Ever. Just hang in there, okay? You can pull through"

Namine hugged Omar back tightly. A soft noise escaped her lips. It wasn't distress, but it also wasn't her starting to cry. It was more of a soft surprise, that she hadn't expected him to hug her and still be so gentle about it. She close her eyes, willing herself just to pretend, just for a moment. She could feel her eyes grow warm as she thought about it and they felt damp.
"I w-wish you were my real dad."
She did not realized she had said it aloud. She was jealous of Jane. Almost blinded with envy of the half-troll young woman. She had a loving, doting father, who was kind, sweet and protective. He was literally everything she wished her father would have been. Everything the man should have been. But if Omar had been her real father, she wouldn't have had to go through anything she had.

"Hey now" That caught him a bit by surprise. She wished he was her dad? Her real dad must have been a right asshole if she wanted the fight-prone, crusty old rocker troll to be her dad. "I'm nothing special honey. I'm just a troll" He was just serving class and a good babysitter. He wasn't even a proper troll! He was practically the runt of the litter and she wanted him as her dad? "I can be your dad if you want" he told her gently. "I mean, you can adopt someone over 18. It just doesn't happen a lot..." reckless move and he probably wasn't thinking this through but if he already thought of her as a daughter and she wished he was her dad...well...why not get as close as they could to making that a reality, right?

"W-What?"
This time her stammer hadn't come from her shyness, but by the shock of what Omar said. She pulled way from him and looked at him in surprise. Her eyes searched his face for any indication of a lie. But... he seemed to be telling the truth. The gravity of his easy acceptance of her accidental blurp was enough to send her mind reeling.
"Y-You'd want me to?" she asked.

He smiled. "Namine, I've said you're like a daughter. Why not make it official and just call you my daughter? I'm sure Jane would love to have a sister. You can be legally my daughter, I can take care of you better, and you'll have a proper supportive family that loves you. Hell, I'll even walk you to and from the department if you don't feel safe and as your legal parent they can't call me a creep" he took a deep breath. "Cindy would have loved you. I'm sure she'd be willing to take you in, and that's what I'll do"

Namine clapped a hand over her mouth to keep back a sob. She could feel her watery eyes spill over. A family. A real family who cared and actually wanted her. She hadn't dared to hope that it would ever happen, just resigned herself to the police force as the only people who semi-cared about her existence, even if it was only because of her drawing skills. But Omar didn't see her as an object that was only good for one purpose - drawing. He treated her like a person.
"I'd l-like that," she said, her voice cracking as she spoke. "I'd l-like that a l-lot."

He hugged her again. Obviously asking her to be in his family had been the right thing to do. She looked like she might die of gratitude. "I...love you, Namine" it felt strange but right to say it. "You're one of my girls. "Don't forget that" he let go of her and looked at her barely eaten cake. "Hey now, does it taste that bad?" he asked jokingly. "I put blackberry jam instead of the usual apricot but I was sure it'd still taste fine" he chuckled and winked at her. "I'm just joking. You've been through a whirlwind just now, it's understandable. Just...do try to eat, okay? I'm worried about you"

Just hearing him say that he loved her was enough to bring a knot to her throat. Hearing him call her one of 'his girls' almost sent her over the edge but she managed to pull herself together. It meant the world to her that he cared this much. That he truly did want to see her 'get better'. That he had even gone this far for her safety was enough to bring forth her utmost of adoration (if he hadn't already had it before the whole Vanitas situation).
Namine couldn't help the weak laugh. He just told her that he had been out-casted by his village and his adoptive mother, that she needed to move on and that he would adopt her but he was worried about how she hadn't eaten anything. She couldn't help it. It was a little funny. It all just happened so fast and he just rolled along with the punches so easily. She was a little envious.
"N-No, it tastes fine!"
She hurried and took another bite, this time a little larger than the last one, all in an attempt to show him that she really did like what he made for her.

He laughed when she did, relieved that he'd gotten a laugh out of her. "That's my girl" he said fondly when she ate another bite of cake. "You're gonna be alright, Namine. You just gotta believe in that, and in me, and everything is gonna be fine" He stood up and stretched. "Alright, eat your cake. I'm gonna see if your fae friend has any good coffee. I've been up a long time and I've got another gig when Jane gets back. Some girl is having a punk party in the middle of the night and invited me to play" He smiled fondly at his daughter to be. "But I'll stick by you until then"

Namine tried to say something but behind a large mouthful of cake, to prove to him she had liked it, she was a little at a loss. But after a bit of chewing and a heavy swallow, her mouth was clear. When Omar spoke like that, she wanted to believe him. She would be putting her trust in him and his words. Omar really was different from anyone else. He actually meant what he said, instead of just hoping that it would be true.
"A-Aqua doesn't drink coffee," Namine said, "B-But she has some for guests in the cabinet by the sink."
Aqua's nature made her feel almost compulsive about thinking for others. She had a slew of things for those with dietary restrictions and coffee, even though she didn't drink it herself. Namine knew it was a baggied brand from Nevermore itself. The coffee did smell good as it was brewing but Namine didn't think she needed to be having coffee any time soon.
"I-I didn't know you baked." she commented about the cake, which was now half gone. The first thing she had eaten in a while.

"How thoughtful. Guess that makes sense given her alignment" he chuckled softly and padded into the kitchen. He found the correct cabinet and pulled out a bag of coffee after a little searching. He put some in the coffee machine and poured in the water and waited for the coffee to fill up the pot. The coffee was the good stuff and he enjoyed the smell of the original blend from Nevermore as it filled up the kitchen. While he waited he walked back to the livingroom and nodded at Namine’s question, pleased that she’d already eaten half the cake.
“I have to fill my eternity with hobbies. I’m the kind of person that always has to do things, keep moving, lose myself in work” he shrugged. “Plus, kids love sweets and trolls love kids so it made sense to learn how to bake to cheer up sad kids. That one was a favorite of my son Danny’s, and I thought...I thought you might like it so I made it the way he liked it. With blackberry jam and some lemon zest in the marzipan frosting” Okay that explanation sounded slightly creepy. But it made Omar happy, baking his kid’s favorite foods. It made them seem closer than they were. He’d have to find out Namine’s favorite foods for future reference. “You should try Snapper’s favorite food” he said with a little laugh. “Pannekaken with sweetened goat cheese and fresh cream and raspberries. Tastes better than it sounds, trust me. He loved it when he was little, the brat” Omar wondered if Snapper would even enjoy the dish if Omar made it anymore.

"She's always b-been like that."
Aqua was Aqua. Namine didn't think her alignment, Seelie or otherwise, made her be as accommodating as she was to everyone. She certainly believed it had something to do with Aqua's own past. From what Namine knew, Aqua had very few people to turn to growing up, so she tried to keep the ones she did have now as happy as possible. Despite all of her hardships, Aqua was reclaiming her life and in small steps, she was happier. Namine had seen vast improvements since Riku was assigned to their partnership. She was certain that having someone watch her back in the field again had forced her to open back up when all the faery wanted to do was shut down. She only hoped that Aqua stayed in the human realm because she had debated just leaving for the Seelie Court and never looking back. She just didn't think Namine knew.
"T-That's sort of like my art," Namine said. "But edible."
She drew to forget. She threw herself into her work and spent hours on her own private paintings and such. Sometimes she lost herself so much that it took her roommate to remind her to eat. She sometimes just lost herself. She thought it was sweet he thought about his kids. Danny, the little boy he lost, and Snapper, his son that he said wasn't his biggest fan.
"I like sweets," Namine admitted. "I go to N-Nevermore a lot."

"How generous of her. But in my experience a lot of Seelie are. Your friend is just more so than most" he nodded thoughtfully. "I've been a blacksmith, a cook, a musician, a sheriff, briefly, an explorer and guide, a dock worker, a pirate, and a cowboy in Montana during the famous Wild West. I've learned all sorts of skills and gone on all sorts of adventures to keep busy. I did it all for the humans, for them to love me as much as I loved them" his face became haunted. "The Black War was the toughest part of my life. Not only did you humans hate me but I lost my Cindy and my son and my daughter was taken from me. I can lose myself in cooking and singing. The pain...doesn't hurt so much" He smiled again. "Oh? what's your favorite sweet there?"

"M-More than most?"
Namine's experience with the Seelie faeries was limited to her roommate. She just assumed Aqua was always nice. Even when the blue faery had been upset, she always did her best to make sure other people were happy. But she seemed almost resigned when she left for the courts, like she knew what had finally happened once and for all to her old partner. Namine knew that Aqua had invited her to live at the apartment once she was certain Terra wasn't coming back because Aqua was being nice, but also because faeries were social creatures and hated being alone.
"T-That's so many jobs!" Namine gasped.
A few of them were dated. The only showed Omar's age. It was something Namine never really stopped to consider - that Omar was older than he looked. Like being a pirate or a cowboy. Those things hadn't been 'occupations' in centuries. But since he had been around so long... she was just human. If she stayed, wouldn't he be sad if she passed away like she knew she would someday?
"M-My mom disappeared during the war." Namine told him.
One day when the fighting got bad, her mom left the house one day. With the promise of a quick return, a kiss on the forehead and a loving smile, that was the last thing Namine remembered of her mother as a child. She never found out what happened to her and all reports were unable to leave to a documented clue. But if there was something Namine knew about it was losing people. She lost her mother in the war and lost her father to the bottle.
"I, um... like the m-macroons." she said with a blush.

"Seelie fae pride themselves on bein kind an well-wishers. Faery godmothers, lovely faery princesses who marry humans, they usually come from the Seelie" He explained with a wave of his hand. "Doesn't mean there aren't bad Seelie, but they are few and far between. Plus, if angered they do give just punishments, but unlike their counterparts the Unseelie, they don't curse or abduct people without reason. But yea, your friend is kinder than most Seelie. It's...nice, I guess"
He smiled. "I have to keep busy. I always kinda wanted to be an astronaut, but I'm not interested in college or training. One day I'll go into space though" it was a goal. He nodded when she said she lost her mom during the war. "I believe it. And I'm sorry for your loss"
"I can make macaroons. Not as good as theirs but I never really focused on my french cooking. Norwegian, Japanese, Indian and English though..." He'd gone to wherever he'd heard there were trolls and learned from them for a while. He'd never stayed in one place for very long. America had kept him the longest truth be told. "I was always looking for trolls I could integrate myself with. Never found any troll I could call family though" Except Snapper's mom and even then they'd broken up after a while.
