The tears were off again, on again. Sunshine, usually known for her chipper attitude, was becoming the shell of who she had been. The talk with Pitch has put her hunt for her partner into a complete standstill. The only closest to Shadow being nearby was the photos she was looking at by swiping through her phone.
It was funny seeing someone so tough and stoic on the job doing what he was in the pictures; the side by side poses at their desks, the collaborative masquerade shot of Lancelot and Elaine, the aptly dubbed 'Sapien selfie', where both of them were trying to smile despite adjusting to the new appearances, his being a stubbled dark-haired man and hers being a short brunette bob. Her eyes blurred as she stared at that picture, a tear falling onto the screen.
"Shadow, where are you?" She asked rhetorically

Adrien had been on a plane home from Italy when he heard the news. That the BPD had literally gotten itself blown up in a fight between two officers. Shadow and Pitch. Two of the most intimidating men on the entire force. But knowing that, Adrien ran to Sunshine. He donned his mask within the hour his flight touched down and ran across the rooftops until he was outside Nevermore. He paused in the back alley behind the shop. It had been a while since he donned the mask or since he had done anything close to Chat except look for Cinder. His clawed glove hovered over the door.
Sunshine... The girl Shadow admitted to caring deeply for. Still, Adrien knew she had to be suffering through all of this. Shadow was the one person she trusted and respected more than anyone. For this to happen... He knew how she felt. The same way Yang probably felt when he walked out the way he did. And now he felt like the scum of the earth for it. But his time abroad had done him some good. He had to fix things with Yang but first, he would fix things for Sunshine.
So he knocked.

Omar had put off seeing the aftermath of Shadow's fight long enough. He hadn't gone to the department when it first happened because he had other worries. Like making sure Namine and Jane were safe. But he'd avoided this long enough. So he walked to the Nevermore because that was the sure place to find Sunshine, wondering what on earth he was going to say to Shadow's partner. He hated cops, and Omar and Sunshine weren't in the most cordial of positions, given she was the one who came to investigate the noise complaints he caused. But it was okay. Shadow had spoken highly of her so Omar was going to help her out in getting his favorite drinking buddy back. When he got there there was a blond masked kid standing in front of the door. He raised an eyebrow at the masked blond and folded his arms. "It's a bakery. ya don't need ta stand in front of the door. Just walk in"

The knock she heard was what put her into cop mode. Without a partner to back her up, she had been on extra edge. She stood up and tucked her phone in her pocket. No need to mope in menories. The small cast iron, which sufficed as her "gun" in the bakery, and opened the back door, the frying pan in one clenched hand.
Sunshine blinked at the two at the back. Both of them were faces of the past, but one was more surprising than the other. Correction; one was still more of a surprise and the other she should have seen coming but didn't
"Chat?! Omar?! What..." she swung her pan behind her back. "What are you guys doing here?"

"It's called being polite." Chat replied.
He glanced over at the unexpected company. A troll. He seemed familiar, but Chat knew he had never met him before. Not as Adrien and certainly not like Chat Noir. Perhaps family? He shrugged it off. He was there to see Sunshine. If the guy didn't like how Chat was trying to let her choose to see her guests, then that was his problem. But the door swung open, revealing Sunshine, armed with her trusty frying pan. Even Chat had to step back, holding his hands up in mock innocence with a boyish grin on his face.
"I came to see how you were doing," he said. "I didn't realize that was a crime. Are you going to arrest me?"
If she hadn't arrested him before, he doubted she was about to start now. Not when she had so much on her mind. But the jokes were just to lighten the situation, make her smile. She looked like she hadn't done that in a good while.

Omar rolled his eyes. Trolls weren't known for politeness, although he was working on that. But if Chat hadn't been there Omar would have just walked in. He was only knocking on doors when it came to people like Namine, who spooked easily. He jerked a thumb at Chat. "What he said. I was worried about you. I figured you could use some company right now" Sunshine was not one of his girls, not a friend, but she needed support more than almost anyone else right now. Shadow disappearing had hit Omar hard, he could not imagine how hard it hit Sunshine. "Can we come in and talk?"

Sunshine just shifted her eyes uncomfortably. It was one thing if they had come in through the bakery to check on her at the counter or at the booth or whatever. Then again, Chat was big on keeping himself secret, so maybe the alley was fitting for him. Typically, he answered her question with a mix between charm and blunt honesty. Sunshine would be lying if she didn't say at times she missed his attitude about it. She hadn't seen him since the Sapien incident, and hopefully he hadn't seen her depressed and brunette.
"Okay, okay, you two can come in. Just don't touch the secret recipes."
The bakery of Nevermore was a far cry from the 'happy goth' dining room. The entire place was silver and white. Silver from the heavy ovens, mixing machines, and refrigerated units, and white from the walls. The only thing not white or silver was the huge table where the Seddons and hired help would knead dough or decorate cakes or whatever needed to be thrown into the oven. The only thing of quirk in the room was the makeshift chandelier made from warped teaspoons or forks overhead; Sunshine and Thomas had collaborated on the idea when the cafe/bakery started having bad silverware returned from Other diners. Instead of throwing it out, they made into something new.
"Not that I'm ungrateful but," she looked at them with un unreadable expression, "why? We've never talked outside the department, and well, to be frank, you guys don't even know me all that well."

"Chat's honor!" he vowed. "Your recipes are safe."
He stepped into the shop only after she gave her express permission. He wouldn't steal her recipes. One, because that was how her family made their livelihood. Two, Sunshine and her family were good people. They weren't his usual types of marks and never would be. Three, he was actually quite busy trying to track down Cinder. So he could get the woman arrested by the BPD and he could try to make amends with Yang. Not to mention his real life had been eating time up in his thief life.
"We might not be the closest but even I can spot a hairy situation." Chat replied, but then grew a little more serious. "I heard about what happened at the BPD. I wanted to see how you were holding up or if there was anything I could do to help."
She seemed anxious, trying not to look at them and she just generally looked upset about them being there. Chat hoped he made the right decision to show up but the last thing he wanted to do was make her feel like she was alone through all of this. She wasn't. Shadow might have disappeared, but he still cared, Chat knew that the sulky dark officer did.

“Hey, I give your mom some recipes from time to time” Omar said lightly. “I wouldn’t touch a fellow baker’s livlihood. But I did bring a few old Norwegian recipes for you to look at. Figured it might cheer you up” he pulled some folded up notebook paper out of his coat pocket and handed them to her. “My own lefse recipe and sweetheart waffles. Plus some cookie recipes I don’t need” probably a little weird but he knew she’d appreciate. Or hoped she would at least.
“Shad and I are actually drinking buddies. I may not like a lot of cops but he is pretty cool. I also know about...” Omar tapped his forehead. “And Maria. So I figured that I could and should help, since he entrusted me with so much private info. I’m not a cop but I know this city better than most. I’ve lived here since it was a tiny town after all. We’re going to find him and I’m going to help bring him back” he smiled a bit. “I miss my drinking buddy”

So the two of them were here for reasons that were both so different and yet so similar. Chat had come from the news that was being spread like wildfire throughout Bellerouge. The news of the department getting blown up. Omar had come because he and Shadow were...friends. Sunshine took the recipes, which she took as a sort of peace offering because of the awkward moments between them, and set it onto the table. She coudl talk about baking and what made a sweetheart waffle the namesake later. All she did was nod to Omar's explanation of knowing about Shadow's amnesia and Maria.
"He must trust you if he told you that. It's never been easy for him to admit that. You, myself, and Yang are the only ones who know about Maria. I've tried to dig up information on her, but I keep winding up reading about some kind of..lab that got blown up, uncannily just before the Black War."
She sighed and shook her head with frustration. "I guess I have no choice but to get you guys roped in, since both of you never take no for an answer." Sunshine had meant this in the kindest way possible. Chat she knew had the stubborn side to him. Again, she hadnt met Omar outside of the noise complaint situation to know what he was like. But if he knew the city since its roots, chances were he could help out with things prior to the Black War.

"It's not technically roping us in, if we're willingly here." Chat pointed out. "I think we can all agree that we're worried about Shadow and want to help him out."
Chat would like to believe he was friends with Sunshine and Shadow. They might have had a rocky start and Chat also might have flirted with Sunshine when Shadow totally liked her, but he changed. He stepped back, gave Sunshine her space. He tried to talk with Shadow about the humoculous' problems. Particularly the fear that Sunshine would never be able to look past his fuzzy exterior or that he wasn't suitable for her.
"So... Do we have a strategy here?" he asked. "He's obviously not at his apartment, not at the bar and not at the offices. Where else would he go?"

"I told him about my girlfriend and son and how I blamed myself for losing my daughter. I guess he felt he could tell me a little about Maria after that" Omar explained briefly with a shrug. "Plus I saw him during a memory thing and had him sit down" Their encounters were a little awkward but mostly met as comrades. Omar nodded as he processed that information. "I heard about that when it happened. It was some kind of sting operation because of illegal goings on, or something. I don't remember all of it. It should give the location of the lab in the news article. Maybe Shadow went there?"

Sunshine frowned. If Shadoe having memory relapses was becoming more coming, it meant that the forces Pitch warned her about was increasing its hold. Who knew if this thing was good or bad? If Shadow was in trouble, there could be grace consequences. After all, the demon had said they were too big for her to understand.
"The only place I can think of is the graveyard," she mused. "There is a grave for Maria Gerald who died ten years ago. That and it almost always has flowers on it."
The flower was also the same; a single white lily. Maria was a martyr probably. Only one person was alive to know her, so whoever left the flower was no mystery. It had to be him
"Also a gazette visit is in store if we want to get the news on that lab. It's the only article to give us clues."

"Maybe one of those places..." Chat said. "There's three of us, so we can split up."
He would prefer if Sunshine went with one of them, just so she was safe. In case Shadow wasn't himself. It was a possibility but he didn't think it was good for Sunshine to be by herself. Even if she went with Omar, she would be safer than going alone. Things in the city had gotten rather tense lately, even with that demon's arrest.

"I can take the Gazette with you Sunshine. You and the masked kitty cat can tackle the graveyard. We can all go to the lab together. Splitting up is good but not for every situation. I think it's a good idea to stick together in the lab. It would be safer. Who knows what's around there nowadays. Probably nothing good"
