Between assisting in the riots going on in Garcon Perdu and trying to keep track of her time, Sunshine was beginning to get exhausted. Her green eyes were beginning to show signs of lack of sleep. It was amazing how she was able to sneak away from the craziness and get to the cemetery like she had told her fellow teammates. She took a swig of hazelnut coffee and let out an aggravated sigh. Everything HAD to go shit when Shadow disappeared. She waited by the grave marked with the innocent girl who had died, Maria Gerald, holding the carefully preserved picture that she had managed to scrounge from Shadow's desk after sneaking into the construction zone. As she stuided it, she dialed a number. The voice picked up sounded concerned,
"Sunshine?"
"Hey, Elsa. Listen, have you found anything with the name Maria Gerald yet?"
"...Actually, I did find a military report with her name on here." The ice lawyer was ruffling papers quickly, "..yeah, here it is. She was one of the few people that had been killed because she had knowledge on...some kind of creature that was created using black magic. The report's vague. Oh, and there's a name here...Professor...Jasper Gerald. He was the director of the project that created the creature."
"And what was this project?"
Elsa hesitated before answering, "How about I just meet you and your little...committee where you guys are." After hearing Sunshine's stammers, the queenish lawyer answered cynically, "gossip about the alley of Nevermore. Besides, Ralph would throw a fit if I followed you guys to Garcon Perdu. "That way we're on the same page."
"Okay. Thanks, Elsa...."
Sunshine shut off her phone when the call clicked. She glanced around, her hand resting on her frying pan/gun in case there was someone watching. And wth this graveyard, chances were someone was.

Suddenly, a sound echoed off the tombs that surrounded Sunshine, made small and unclear by distance but still discernable. It was a voice calling out in the graveyard.
"Sunshine? Sunshine!"
Anna stood at an intersection within the boneyard, turning slowly on the spot as she tried to determine which path the BPD officer might have taken. She had been heading to the pet store to pick up some food for Pascal on her day off when she had just spotted the familiar form stepping into the graveyard. And even standing nearly a block away, she had been able to tell that Sunshine was downcast.
Not one to just leave her friends alone when they were unhappy, Anna had immediately altered her course and followed her into the graveyard. Unfortunately, the space was filled with a large number of meandering paths that crossed and crisscrossed and wound back on each other amongst seemingly endless tombstones, mausoleums and crypts.
Very quickly she had lost sight of Sunshine. And with no one around to ask for help except the dead, she had started to call out her friend's name in hopes that she might hear her.

Omar picked his way through the graveyard to the appointed place, his phone in his hand in case there was anything that Namine or Jane needed him for. He cared about Shadow and Sunshine but his girls were more important, especially right after the hostage scare. He just wanted to make sure that his girls were safe. Sunshine was of course important too, and Omar's sort of surrogate child since Shadow was gone .Hence why he was here at all. He cared about Shadow but he was genuinely concerned about Sunshine.
"Sunshine? Sunshine, I'm here!" he called out when he judged he was close enough. The ground crunched beneath his feet and he looked around, alert to what might be lurking around him.

Two voices called out, one was a voice she didn't expect. A cold wind picked up, billowing her mane of blonde hair out behind her. What exactly was Anna doing down here? It was someone just calling her name over and over again. Oh, great, the last thing she needed was to catch someone else up to speed about the whole incident. She cupped her hands and shouted,
"Anna! Follow the sound of my voice!!!"
The second voice made her jump like a scared cat. She yelped cutely, her hand flinging for the gun. But the dog-nosed redhead was no stranger, and she set it back into the holster.
"Oh, thank God....Now all I need is Chat and the gang will be all here..."

"Awful lively considering this is a graveyard..." Chat said as he walked over to the group.
He frowned. He still didn't like the idea of them all gathering together like this. In the same place. It just felt like a set up for a trap. But then again, he had been watching a lot of spy movies. All they needed now was a Bond Villain with impressive facial hair to step out of the shadows and laugh at them before he snapped his fingers and had his 'goons' try to take care of them. Still, this was for Sunshine and he had to follow her lead. He just hoped this little pow-wow stayed between the group and hadn't gotten leaked.

Anna had just been preparing to take a wild guess on the path Sunshine had taken, her wild guesses being correct a surprisingly large amount of times, when she heard an answering call coming from the path just to her right. Smiling, she immediately headed down the trail and soon enough could hear movement ahead of her and around the corner of a crypt. Anna's pace picked up as she approached Sunshine and began to speak even before her friend was in sight.
"Oh Sunshine! I'm so glad I was able to find you in this boneyard and didn't get lost. I saw you come in here while walking down the street and thought you looked like you could use some, and you're not alone!"
By this point Anna had turned the corner and her chipper blue gaze had landed on her coworker along with two other figures. Immediately she came to a halt and blinked in benign surprise at the two men standing only a few steps away with Sunshine. One of them, a red-haired troll, she didn't know but the other figure, a young blonde man in what could only be described as a 'cat burglar' outfit, looked vaguely familiar. Her eyes darted between the three of them for a few moments of silence before she spoke again.
"I have a feeling I'm missing something..."

Omar nodded to the freaked out Sunshine, not worried about her gun, and looked down the path towards the brunette that was coming towards them. He also nodded to Chat. "Evening all" he said calmly, and smiled at the brunette. "I'll leave Sunshine to tell you about what's what, since you're now part of our little group for better or for worse, sweetheart" he clapped his hands together and rubbed them. "Alright, any ideas where to start this venture of ours Sunshine?"

Almost on cue, everyone had gathered around Maria's grave. Sunshine felt her cheeks flush with embarrasment. It wasn't every day that she ran a sting operation with a czat burglar, a troll, and one of her colleagues from work. She knew Anna had been taking gun shooting lessons from the Colt brothers, which meant that it was good to have a back up for that.
'Well..."
'Sunshine! Anna!"
A voice and rustling of papers came from the next bend. Rushing to greet them was Elsa. She was carrying a thick manila folder, which had shown a bit fo wear and tear. Not shockingly, one tip had a small trace of blood on the corner. The lawyer swiped her platinum blonde hair back under her ears, frowning as she saw that, well, she wasn't alone. This information was highly delicate. If it fell into the wrong hands...
"Dont' worry," Sunshine reassured her. "We're all one the same side..." she sighed, her heart rsacing a million miles an hour. Best get everyone on the same page as well as the same side. She gestured to the grave next to her. As expected, it help aloft a fresh white lily. "This is the grave of a girl named Maria Gerald. She's the only consistent thing in Shadow's memories. I thought by coming here...it could lead to clues."
"After Shadow disappeared, we started digging." Elsa chimed in. "My...er..." Her cheeks flushed. Was calling Ralph her boyfriend a bit far? "...anyways, I'm close with one of his former colleagues. He wasn't too thrilled to hear he disappeared and wanted to help out. But upon the name Maria Gerlad coming up, I remembered following a case that had her name in it."
She held out the file for the others. Written in bold black letters was the content's name:
PROJECT SHADOW
Sunshine ahd no reaction except to stare blankly

Omar turned when yet another person came running up to them. He raised his eyebrow at the lawyer. He then turned to the grave and stooped down to look at the dates on the grave. His heart filled with sadness when he saw it was the grave of a girl. Not a woman, just a kid. Poor girl. "So this is the grave of his Maria" Omar murmured. "How utterly sad" Omar's ears perked at the embarrassment in the voice of the lawyer. Now that was interesting. Who was this former colleague and why did the woman sound so embarrassed bringing them up? Omar got up and looked over Sunshine's shoulder at the envelope. "So what? What're we lookin at here?" He asked.

"Well, is this everyone?" Chat asked.
They had a group of five of them in the graveyard. He didn't necessarily like being out there. There was something about the graveyard that set him on edge. But this was where Sunshine wanted to meet and there was a chance that Shadow would come and visit the grave of the girl... Maria... that hurt. A kid. That little girl had so much potential for, well, more but her life was cut short.

Anna cocked her head slightly to the side and blinked rapidly as Sunshine explained what was going on and why she was in the graveyard in the first place. She let her eyes wander briefly to the Troll and the blonde 'cat-burglar' but remained perfectly silent as the situation was made clear. Even when Elsa arrived suddenly with a folder marked PROJECT SHADOW, she remained quiet.
Finally, Anna spoke once a momentary pause passed, a determined grin spreading across her lips.
"Well, count me in! If it involves finding Shadow then you can't get rid of me now!"
She grinned widely at the surrounding group. Most people would had balked at suddenly being faced with a task like this, but not Anna. If anything, it seemed to excite and invigorate the young medical examiner. Immediately she went over to the tomb and began to look at it in detail, her eyes taking in the name and dates carved into the stone and the lilies laid out on it.
"Someone was here recently for sure. These lilies aren't even a day old."

Sunshine nodded. No one was coming around the bend, which meant whoever was going to get involved best back out. Anna was already studying the grave. Just looking at Omar and Chat upon realizing this was the grave was of a little girl spelled how grim it was. She looked st the grave, trying to recollect what Shadow told her about Maria.
"She was dying from something.... To make it worse, the disease was affecting her immune system, meaning she couldn't go outside...Shadow was somehow connected to her grandfather, and over time he and Maria grew super close."
Elsa had opened the folder. "It says here Maria was diagnosed with Immune Deficieny Syndrome. Basically her immune system was dea stroking itself. A cure for the disorder had no hope of being discovered...."
Sunshine frowned. "So Maria's grandfather made Shadow to keep her company since she had no chance of going outside...doesn't explain why she was killed."

"Sounds like him." Chat replied.
Befriending a dying little girl, keeping her company when the rest of the world couldn't be around her. Yes. That was very much like Shadow, even if it was what he was created to do. Maybe Shadow was better off without those memories. Memories of a dying little girl would have been so sad because everything she did could have been her last. Her last smile, her last meal, her last chance...
"Also doesn't explain what the government wanted... Shadow? Maria's grandpa? Maria?"
He wasn't about to launch into conspiracy theories. The file held the answers.

Omar nodded grimly. "Good man. Protecting her and being her friend? very trollish. I knew I liked him" Omar nodded to Anna. "The lily is fresh, but he had to have gotten it somewhere. This isn't a vacuum where lilies suddenly appear. Someone must have given him the flower. It means he's not so far gone he can't buy a flower from someone. Bet there aren't that many places to buy lilies" Not that it would do much good; they knew where he went after buying it after all. That wasn't the problem.
"Bet the government wanted Shadow. He's practically a weapon. No offense to him of course"

Anna was still looking at the grave of Maria with quiet intensity, almost as if she thought the spirit of the young girl would appear and direct them towards Shadow. However, despite not looking up she was listening to what the other's were saying and nodded in agreement with Chat's and Omar's comments.
"While that what super sweet of Shadow to befriend this poor girl, I doubt that's what he was made for. You don't make a companion for a sick little girl and give them all kinds of amazing, destructive powers just for the heck of it. No, I think he just became friends with Maria because he wanted to."
She suddenly reached out a hand and ran it gently over the cool stone. Finally, she turned her bright blue eyes back towards the others and the look on her face was startling in how serious it was.
"No, I think he might have been just that in the eyes of the government. A weapon to be utilized until its usefulness ran out. It would explain why they wanted him so badly and why he wanted to get rid of all his memories. Except the ones of Maria, of course."
Her eyes looked around to each of them in turn, a slight frown creasing her brow as she tried to make sense of it all. Still, there was one big question that she couldn't think of a likely answer for.
"But that still doesn't answer WHO had Shadow made and why."
