All of her life! How could a person live here all of their life with the war that happened about ten years ago? "How is it, being in such a place? So filled with excitement and action! And New Orleans is about a couple minutes away! Do you guys celebrate Mardi Gras too?" Nora bombarded her new friend with questions about further life in this vibrant little city, except for those about the night life because that topic was one she knew plenty about. Her dad lived for crime and justice. "But," she continued, "the real question you'd want to ask is, why would I leave such an amazing place? You see, my stepmom's a teacher and my dad was a cop. Dad got relocated here, some time passed, and then we had to move back."

Adeline's face fell at the mention of Mardi Gras. Memories of what had happened flashed through her mind. Sure, she hadn't seen any of it in person, but seeing all those prisoners escape from the local jail and send a good chunk of the city into chaos on TV was bad enough. And then, there was what Thrax had done to Weiss and Yang. Adeline still didn't have the courage to talk to either of them, and it made her feel like a coward. "Yeah, we do," she answered, her voice quiet. Her mood was headed towards gloomy, and suddenly, she didn't feel so curious about Nora anymore, although she did explain that them moving around was because of her father being a cop.

Nora's smile grew wider at the mention of Mardi Gras. That holiday was like party central in the south. All of the talk of constant activity and parades made her heart explode with joy. However, the explosion slowly mended itself as she noticed Adeline look gloomy. Sure, her friend was much more calm and subdued in contrast to her hyperactivity, but this felt really out of place. "Adeline," she asked, her voice calm and her smile almost seemingly non-existent, "are you okay?" She had an inkling of what her response was going to be. Something must have happened that made the black-haired woman get upset. This must have been Addie's reaction to seeing her with the carousel. "Can I at least do anything to help?"

Adeline shook her head. "I'm fine. Just...Mardi Gras was rough, for this city." Nora probably didn't hear about what had happened, since she had just gotten here. If she checked the news over the last few weeks though, she could probably see all the reports made about what had happened. Heck, some people were still talking about the jail break and all the chaos that ensued because of it. Adeline wasn't sure if she could explain it all without getting emotional. Besides, if she did, she'd probably have to mention that she was the one who summoned Thrax in the first place. And who knew how well Nora would take that.

"I see. It seems as if Bellerouge is recovering from a... war..." Nora hesitated on that final word. War was a really touchy subject to talk about to anyone. It could trigger a lot of memories that would destroy a person. Ren said that this was called post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. He also said that she might have that due to what had happened before when they had lived here previous. "I'm sorry..."

Adeline gave a humorless chuckle. "That's certainly one way of describing it," she agreed. Who knew, all this chaos and crime may need to something similar to the Black War. Adeline had been young at the time. She didn't remember much of it, only that it had been scary and her parents had been very afraid. They were lucky, though. They hadn't been caught in any of the cross fire. The way the reports had shown the jail break though, it was almost like another war had started. The image of a chunk of the city going in flames, it stuck in Adeline's mind and she couldn't get it out. If Thrax did something like that again, who knew how much devastation he could cause. "It's fine. It's just...been a bit hard," she said. She felt like that was putting it lightly, but technically, it was true. It had been hard on her, on her parents, on the few friends she had. It would take time to recover from what had happened.

Nora went on her tiptoes and put a comforting hand on Adeline's shoulder. "I know you won't believe this, Addie, but I fully understand your situation." She looked away slightly, knowing that it would be extremely uncomfortable to discuss her memories of the Black War with a total stranger. "I... the time I was here was during what the locals call 'The Black War'. I just remember a lot of fighting, fire, and loud noises outside of my window. Who knew? Who knew that so much mayhem could happen over a short period of time..." she sighed. Nora knew that she was probably making things worse. Adeline could barely remember the war, but her? She could remember any detail from outside of her windows. All the rounds that were fired and with which gun model or prototype. "But don't worry, Addie, I didn't remember much either," the redhead lied through her teeth.

Adeline glanced up, wondering what Nora meant when she said she understood how she felt. When she explained, Adeline got what she was saying. It looked like Nora had experienced a lot more of the Black War than she had, even though she didn't remember a whole lot of it either. Still, she at least remembered being scared and how chaotic it was out there. Adeline wondered if she'd understand the guilt she was feeling, that thought that if she hadn't summoned Thrax, none of this would have happened. Pitch kept saying it was a foolish thing to think, that Thrax was responsible for this. Heck, he thought Thrax would have found a way into this city anyway, even if Adeline hadn't summoned him in the first place. Still, Adeline just couldn't shake the feeling away. "Well, I guess you chose a great time to come back to the city," she said ironically. "Now you get to watch us deal with the aftermath of what happened." Adeline hoped that Nora was ready for that. Things in this city could get crazy. Not every person could deal with that.

Nora chuckled at her acquaintance's comment, "Yeah, I guess we did..." But what was there to worry about? Ren was part of the BPD, who was responsible for the handling of many crimes in the past. What could stop them from dealing with the aftermath of the tragedy that Adeline was mentioning? "But I'm ready for whatever challenge may come my way!" She put her hands on her hips and stood heroically, but it quickly faded. Sometimes optimism can be the best way to deal with a situation, but not when there were constant memories of war flashing through your head. "Well, at least most of them," she mumbled to herself, "the BPD can't always help with a dead father..." She surely hoped that Addie didn't hear that. "I need to go! I'm kinda hungry and I'm in the mood for beignets! Bye!" She sped off, hoping that she wouldn't follow her. "I hope that we'd meet again!"

Nora certainly seemed confident about facing whatever problems Bellerouge was dealing with. Adeline hoped that she could. She'd hate to see that confidence ruined. Nora seemed pretty nice, if a bit eccentric. But she was so different from the other people Adeline hung out with. She felt like the change was nice. Nora muttered something under her breath, but before Adeline could ask what she said, her new friend suddenly had to take off. Adeline had to laugh, although she also admitted that beignets were pretty good for filling up an empty stomach. "Me too," she said, smiling as she gave a wave. "See you around." When Nora was out of sight, she gave a sigh. It was still a little sad, but also contented. She still wasn't sure if she had the courage to face Weiss and Yang after what had happened to them, but Nora had made her feel a little better. That had to count for something.
