Adeline sighed. She couldn't believe how much of a coward she was. She thought that maybe, after her talk with Pitch and Namine, she might have enough guts to go into the hospital and see Yang. Apparently, Weiss had already been released, but Yang was still there, getting her arm treated. Adeline felt like she should at least go in there once to say something, anything. Even just a simple "I'm sorry." But no. She had chickened out and had instead gone to the park. She sighed as she angrily kicked at a pebble, sending it rolling down the path. "How can you have no guts at all?" she muttered to herself. "So typical. You're still afraid of confrontation." Despite Pitch saying otherwise, Adeline couldn't make the guilty feelings go away. She still felt like it was her fault that Yang had gotten her arm chopped off by Thrax. Just because the feelings weren't logical didn't mean they were any easier to not feel. She sighed again as she walked along the path.

Nora was running along the other end of the path, chuckling to herself as if she was a small child while the wind fluttered through her short red hair. Oh, she had forgotten how much life and activity Bellerouge exhibited during the day! She could still faintly hear the jazz and zydeco from the square as she turned the corner to approach the street where the park was located. Lie Ren gave the best directions. I guess having good directions is priority to be a cop, she thought to herself. The park was much more luxurious than she remembered from when she was here before. But that was such a long time ago. It was better for someone like her to live in the moment that was being in the park. The moment only lasted a short while as she accidentally bumped into someone.
The other woman looked around her age, except that she had long, waist-length, black hair and solemn, amber eyes. "Hiya!" Nora seemed to ignore the pain her companion may or may not be going through.

Adeline was jostled out of her gloomy thoughts when something, or somebody, bumped into her. She lost her balance for a moment, but managed to stay on her feet. She turned to see who had bumped into her, and saw that it was a girl, maybe a few years older than her. From her greeting alone, Adeline could see she was the peppy type. Adeline wasn't adverse to people like that, but sometimes, hyper people tended to be put off by her pretty quickly, seeing as how she was almost the exact opposite. "Hi," she said evenly.

She internally gasped. This was definitely going to be her first friend outside of her brother here in town. That was a fact. "Hi! My name's Nora," the energetic teenager looked up to the girl in front of her, "what's yours?" Nora tilted her head waiting for a response from her companion. "Sorry about earlier," she awkwardly giggled and put her hand behind her neck. "I was just entranced by all of Bellerouge! Are you okay? I hope I didn't hurt you or anything."

Adeline blinked. Nora talked awfully fast. Still, she seemed nice enough, if a bit energetic. She was different, from other people she knew. Pitch was usually a serious guy. Namine was even shyer than she was. Axel had an upbeat way of thinking about things, but he wasn't this peppy. "Adeline," she replied after a moment of silence. Nora apologized for bumping into her and Adeline shook her head. "You don't need to apologize. I'm fine. I guess I was just...thinking too much." That was putting it lightly, although it was the truth. Adeline had always been a contemplative person, and she had things on her mind more than ever now. So much had changed in such a short amount of time. It made her wonder how things would change even more in the future.

Nora sighed a sigh of relief. The worst thing that could possibly happen at this moment was to have hurt her new friend. Adeline reminded her a lot of her half-brother, Lie Ren, in whom she just called Ren. He had put up with her energy for the longest time, so she hoped that she would do the same. "What were you thinking about? Are you hungry, because I am? I'm really in the mood for some beignets! Are the beignets good? Ren told me that the beignets at the cafe are pretty good!" The redhead sped through her thoughts like a lightning bolt. From what she had heard from her brother, the beignets were similar to a New York or New Jersey Boardwalk zeppoli. Although she was kind of hungry, but something else had caught her attention. "OMG! A carousel! Addie! Do you mind if I call you Addie?"

Oh boy, Adeline thought. Nora was firing a million questions a second. At least, it felt that way. She was worried about having to answer her question about what she was thinking, but luckily, Nora's train of thought led to asking about beignets, which she was a lot more enthusiastic about answering. "Yeah, they're great. The Nevermore Coffeehouse has the best ones. I go there all the time." Heck, it was probably the place Adeline frequented most often these days, besides the library. However, before they could search for any place nearby selling them, Nora's attention was grabbed by something else: a carousel. Adeline turned her head in the direction of the music. The carousel wasn't the most popular thing to do in the city, but it always attracted the attention of any child walking around the park. Truthfully, Adeline hadn't been on it since she was little, although Nora seemed pretty excited about it. When asked if she could be called Addie, she gave a shrug as she replied "Um...I guess?" Nobody had really called her Addie before, but if Nora wanted to, she didn't mind.

"Oh, great! Thanks, Addie! I'll be over here." Nora clapped her hands and dashed off to get a closer look at the carousel. Plenty of children were mounted on the backs of the wooden horses, and they all seemed pretty contented going around and around as the calliope played its familiar song. Her eyes were gazed upon one particular horse: it was white with a light colored main, like the others, but this one had golden-tipped hooves and large wings, technically making it a pegasus. Bliss was the name that was written on the saddle. She sat down, not minding that the bottom of her outfit would be heavily stained, and watched the merry-go-round make its rotations. This was probably the longest time she had remained silent in her life, she pondered as the saw her younger self on that horse. Nora closed her eyes, enveloping herself further into the fantasy.

Nora dashed off to the carousel faster than Adeline could blink. "Wait, hold on a second!" She hurried after her. Was Nora really bailing now, in the middle of the conversation? She caught up with her at the carousel, where the laughter of the children mixed with the music that was playing. Adeline half expected Nora to get in line so she could ride on it. But instead, the peculiar girl sat on the ground, watching the carousel until her eyes closed. Adeline glanced back and forth between the two for a moment. She felt confused, but she felt like there had to be a reason why Nora was acting this way. To talk so much before hand, then suddenly go quiet...something was on her mind. Although she seemed so focused on what she was doing right now, whatever it was. Adeline hated to interrupt her.

She adjusted out of criss-cross applesauce and pulled her legs closer to her body. Then, she put her arms around them, hugging her knees. It seemed as if the rest of the world was falling away until the only thing were Nora, Bliss, the horse with wings, and memories. It had been about forever since she had been here in this exact location. However, this time, her family wasn't here to accompany her. Mom was busy back in New York teaching. Ren was at work a lot. And Dad? She didn't want to talk about him that much. "Dad..." she whispered to herself, hoping to God or whatever other deity was out there that no one would have heard her. Especially Adeline, for she didn't want to look or sound dorky in front of her new friend. Her luck went against her as she heard footsteps approaching. It seemed that Addie had finally caught up. "Oh, hey Addie," Nora opened her eyes, then rubbed them again to readjust to the brightness of the daylight.

Adeline thought she heard Nora whisper something, but she couldn't hear what she said. Just when she was about to ask, Nora finally opened her eyes, looked up at her, and said hello. Adeline blinked. What the heck was that all about? Had Nora gone into some weird trance or something? Then again, could Adeline really judge her for any odd mannerisms she had? After all, Adeline was pretty weird herself. Quiet, moody, part demon and part witch. She was kind of a freak too. Still, she felt like she wanted to know what had just happened. "Um...do you usually get this way around carousels?" she asked.

"Sorry," Nora's demeanor, at the drop of a dime, became much calmer than before, "did I scare you, Addie? I hope I didn't." She rubbed her hands together and popped up from her original position. "I don't normally get this way around carousels. Only this one!" she smiled, returned to her normal chipperness, and smoothed her outfit. Nora took one last look at the carousel, which had come to a halt. "I was just remembering the last time I was here, which was such a long time ago. Mom, who's really my stepmom, Dad, and my big brother - well, half-brother - were here having the time of their lives! I believe my stepmom and Lie Ren were off looking at some of the gardens, while Dad and I were here. Blissy there was my favorite horse to ride!" She imitated the whinny of a horse while pointing at the pegasus that endeared her so much. "This was one of the times where Dad was off of work, so this was a really, really, really special time for me."

Adeline shook her head. Was Nora's behavior confusing? Sure. Scary? Not so much. Adeline had seen much scarier things. Heck, she was practically a scary thing. If her demon side got released, she became the stuff of nightmares. Truthfully, she still feared she could become that, even though Thrax had declared her unfit to be by his side anymore. Adeline hoped he wouldn't try to do to someone else what he had done to her. She wouldn't wish it on anyone, and it would just make her feel even more guilty. Nora explained why the carousel was special to her, and it helped Adeline understand why she had suddenly acted to strange. It was nostalgic. If the last time Nora had come here was when she was younger though, did that mean she had been away from the city for a long time? Had she moved away, then come back? Curiosity got the better of Adeline and she asked "Did you end up leaving Bellerouge for a while or something? You mentioned the last time you were here was a long time ago."

Nora nodded in response, "Uh-huh. Last time I was here was- Hmm... We moved when I was seven. We left when I was nine. I'm 19 now, so! Yeah! I haven't been here in ten years! A lot's changed since then." She glanced around, noticing all of the life surrounding them. "It seems as if there's less people in the town than when I was here. Well, a lot of people from my dad's division got transferred here, so they might be back home up north... Wait, how long have you lived here, Adeline?"

Ten years. That was a long time to be away from her. Adeline wondered why Nora's family had moved away, and why they had decided to come back. Maybe that wasn't her business to ask. She had just met Nora, after all. She didn't need to pry into her personal life. "My whole life, actually," she replied, when Nora asked how long she had lived here. "I was born and raised here." And honestly, Adeline didn't want to be anywhere else. Sure, this was there some dangerous people lived, but it was also where her friends were, the few she had at least. She didn't want to leave them. Besides, anywhere she went, Thrax would follow. Even though she wasn't a target of his anymore, she would still feel guilt anytime he hurt people. And that wouldn't stop until he was caught.
