Weiss felt like she was turning into an aimless wanderer. Her parents seemed pleased that she wasn't cooping herself up all the time and was actually getting out of the house every once in a while. The only problem was, there wasn't really anywhere she wanted to go, so she just wandered throughout the city. Sure, she'd stop to buy a book somewhere, or get some new shoes, or spend some time at the park. But other than that, she just walked around for a couple of hours, not really caring where her feet were taking her. And wherever she went, the shadow spirits followed her. They might disappear for a few hours, or even a day, but they always came back. It was starting to annoy Weiss. Nothing she had read about could tell her how to get rid of them. She felt like they wanted something from her, but they wouldn't tell her. Or they wanted her to figure it out. Either way, it was irritating. They weren't with her at the moment, as she walked along a path that lay next to the river, but she knew they'd be back before long. They always came back.

Suddenly, a voice called out from the surrounding quiet of the river. While somewhat distant, it was still close enough so that you could tell it was a young woman's voice and that she was saying a name. A moment later the voice called out once again.
"Weiss! Hey, Weiss!"
A figure then appeared a short distance down the path, waving wildly with a large grin on her face as she approached. Anna had been sitting on a grassy slope nearby reading a new book that she had picked up at the bookstore. It was a wonderful story, a fantasy told from the point of view of a dragon trying to save a kingdom where everyone thought him evil except for one young girl. She had been so engrossed in the book that she might have not looked up at all if a sudden gust of wind hadn't started to blow the pages about in her book. She had immediately put a hand forward to mark her place in the book when she glanced up and saw a receding figure.
Even though they hadn't spoken or seen each other since the fiasco masquerade ball, Anna immediately recognized the white-blonde pony-tail and elegant outfit that could only be Weiss.
Without hesitating she grabbed her book and started down the path, calling out Weiss' name and hoping she would hear here. It would be good to catch up with her after so much had happened in Bellerouge.

Weiss looked up when she heard a voice calling her name. At first, she couldn't tell who it was. But soon, she saw a familiar figure not too far away, waving at her. To her surprise, it was Anna. Honestly, Weiss hadn't seen her since that night they had run into each other at the pub. It seemed like so long ago. So much had changed. Still, Weiss remembered Anna being a generally perky person and fun to be around. Maybe chatting with her would cheer her up a bit. She gave a smile as she waved back, heading down the path to meet her. "Hey Anna. It's been a while," she greeted.

Weiss must have heard her voice because she turned around and began to wave back. Anna's pace picked up in anticipation as she approached the young woman, eager to speak with her after not seeing her for a fair length of time. She was still several yards away when she began to happily speak to Weiss.
"Hey there, hi there, ho there! It's great to see you, Weiss! I was hoping I'd run into you again some time s...."
However, Anna's words and her pace came to a suddenly stop all at once only a few feet away from her friend. She stopped so suddenly it almost looked as if she had been petrified or frozen by some unseen force except that her eyes still moved. And they were looking over Weiss' face, lingering over the scar that now descended over her left eye where only a short time ago their had been unblemished skin.

Anna seemed her usual chipper self at first. But soon, her voice trailed off. For a moment, Weiss wondered if her shadow spirits were nearby and Anna had spotted them. But, she soon realized what her friend was staring at. She still wasn't great at covering up the scar on her face, unlike her mother, who had a similar one. Weiss wondered if there was a real point in doing that though. Everyone knew it was there. Of course, that still didn't make her feel self-conscious about it sometimes, like now. She could feel her cheeks flushing from embarrassment and her hand instinctively flew to her face, almost as if she was trying to hide it. "It's...it's not as bad as it looks," she said, tripping over her words for a moment. She didn't really know what else to say.

Anna could see how her staring was making Weiss uncomfortable, but she seemed unable to stop herself from looking at the long gash that descended from her eyebrow down to her cheek. And while it was completely healed and very thin, she could tell from just looking at the scar how deep it the cut must have been.
"Oh Weiss.....what happened?"
Anna didn't realize she was going to say the words until they were already out of her mouth. Immediately she bit down on her lip and felt like slapping herself. First she had openly gawked at Weiss' scar and now she was asking nosy and rude questions. Definitely not the kind of behavior a good friend would display.

Weiss's stomach churned at Anna's question, but she could see how her friend looked guilty as soon as she asked it. Weiss sighed. There was no use in trying to hide it. She was probably going to find out eventually. She did work with the police, after all. "I...tangled with Thrax, during the prison break," she replied. "I thought maybe I could take him on, but...well, I didn't leave without a scratch." Really, that was what she felt the scar was like. A constant reminder of how she had been arrogant and foolish. True, she had saved Yang, but it wasn't like that was her original intention. She had wanted to fight Thrax to prove herself, to get revenge for what he did during the masquerade ball. And even though she had given him a matching scar, she still felt like she had barely managed to hold him off. If it wasn't for the shadow spirits, she would have been a goner.

Anna kept silent at Weiss' words but could feel her eyes growing wider at the fact that the young woman before her had tried to tangle with someone as dangerous as Thrax. True, she'd never had direct contact with the Demon but the stories she'd heard around the BPD were enough.
"Are you alright?"
That sounded like a stupid and obvious question but Anna's tone revealed the question was far deeper then that. She knew that Thrax was able to induce terrible visions of people's worst fears if he touched them. The attack at the ball had made that apparent. So if Weiss had fought with him did that mean that she had been locked into a world of her own greatest fears?
Was she even now struggling with the psychological harm that the Demon might have brought against her along with her physical wounds. And worse still, had Thrax hurt anyone else since the prison break?

"I'm...fine. I'm okay," Weiss replied, feeling like that was the easiest answer to give. True, she wasn't entirely alright, but then again, when was she ever? Besides, most of her problems lay with the shadow spirits that she couldn't ditch, and she wasn't about to try and tell anyone about that. She might get in trouble, or worse, people might wonder just what kind of person she was to summon such dark creatures like that. She felt it was better to just try and figure out how to get rid of them on her own. "I mean, I'm still in one piece, right?" She gave a little smile, hoping she sounded at least a little confident. And she was right, in a way. She was lucky to have come away with just a scar. Yang had lost her whole arm. Weiss had only talked to her once since that night, and it was only for Yang to thank her for saving her life. Of course, the girl had sounded a little dead inside when saying it, but Weiss knew she was trying to be polite, even though she was struggling to get used to her one arm. They had had no more conversations after that. What else was there to talk about? Really, the only thing they had in common was Thrax, and they weren't really going to have that as a conversation topic.

Anna felt that Weiss was probably anything other then fine in that moment but didn't push the subject. After all, it was her choice to discuss what had happened or not and she had no right to go pushing into her business. Still, she couldn't help the burning curiosity that was building up inside her, desperately wanting to know what had happened while at the same time be sensitive to Weiss' situation.
She continued to stare at the young girl in silence for several moments before deciding to ask the safest of the questions that were bubbling up inside her throat. If she chose to answer it, it meant she was alright with talking about it to a degree. If she wasn't, Anna would retreat with grace and try to find something to distract them both.
"Was anyone else...involved?"

Weiss's arms wrapped around herself. Anna seemed pretty damn curious about all this. It made her feel uncomfortable. She didn't need Anna worrying about her. She probably had enough to fret about right now. "Yeah. I mean, he attacked...a lot of people. During the jail break and all. Riku could probably give you all the nitty gritty details." That was all Weiss was willing to say at the moment. Although, she was surprised how easily Riku's name had slipped out. In most cases, she was reluctant to talk about him. But she felt like he was probably more qualified to talk about this than she was. And he could probably give all the details without feeling all anxious like she was.

"I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable."
Anna lowered her gaze to the ground and her shoes, her hands fidgeting with the book she had been reading only a few moments ago. It was strange to think that literally only a minute or two ago she had been perfectly happy and content, oblivious to the fact that a friend of hers had faced a truly frightening and potentially traumatizing experience.
And what made her feel even worse was the simple fact that she had KNOWN about the attack, if only having heard about it secondhand while working at the BPD. After all, it wasn't exactly secret that Bellerouge Prison had been broken into and a large number of highly dangerous inmates had escaped, but she hadn't really stopped to consider the people effected by it. Instead, she had been busy with her own life at that time and blissfully ignorant of the harm being done. Until now, of course.
"Please, just answer one question for me.......Was anyone killed in the attack?"

"Not that I know of," Weiss replied. A lot of people had gotten hurt, sure. But as far as someone dying, she hadn't heard anything. And really, that was the only lucky thing about all this. The criminals could have done a lot worse. But apparently, most of them had been more focused on escaping than going on a killing spree. Anna seemed almost timid as she asked the question. Weiss worried that she might have come off as bitchy or something. She could do that sometimes, when she was stressed or already upset about something. Anyone who knew her tended to be driven crazy by it. "Sorry. It's just...been a lot to handle, you know?" She hoped that was enough of an explanation. And really, she did have a lot on her mind. The fight with Thrax, the way her parents had reacted to it, and the shadow spirits she had summoned as a result. All of these things seemed to lurk in the back of her mind constantly, and it made it hard to focus on anything else sometimes.

"Is there anything I can do for you?"
As she spoke, Anna took a small step forward towards Weiss. She wanted to aid her friend, help her, comfort her if need be, but she also knew that it had to be Weiss' choice to accept her sympathy.
"Did anyone you know get hurt? Maybe I could help them, too. I mean, I was originally training to become a doctor before I became a medical examiner so maybe I can give some assistance?"
Now Anna knew she was babbling. She desperately wanted to help in some way but was uncertain as to what she could do in that moment. It made her realize sometimes you couldn't do anything and the thought was so bleak she couldn't help but cringe from it.

"No, I'm fine," Weiss replied. "The doctors already did what they could. I'm pretty much healed physically." Of course, that was the worst part, in Weiss's mind. Physically, she was perfectly fine. Emotionally though, that was another story. This whole situation with Thrax had been added to her already large pile of emotional baggage, and she wasn't sure how to deal with it. All she was good at was putting on a cold front and distancing herself from people. Nowadays, she felt like the ones who were there for her the most were the shadow spirits that followed her everywhere. "I don't know. Anyone who was in the hospital is probably released by now," Weiss said. Was there much Anna could do? However, something came to mind, and she thought maybe it could give Anna an opportunity to help. Obviously, the young woman needed to do something in order not to fret about this so much. And Weiss had an idea for a possible task. "Maybe there is someone who could use some help. Her name's Yang Xiao Long. She lost her arm, thanks to Thrax. I think she got released from the hospital a few weeks after I was. She probably needs help getting adjusted and stuff."
