Yang was starting to wonder if this was a good idea. Her friends hadn't exactly been the biggest fans of her just shutting herself up in her house, and had encouraged her to get out every once in a while. Even her doctors had said taking a walk or getting some fresh air might make her feel less depressed. But now that she was out here, she felt like maybe she should have stayed inside today. Going out in public by herself these days made her feel all sorts of bad things. Anxiety, over-stimulation, paranoia. She couldn't help but look over her shoulder, as if expecting Thrax to pop out at any moment. And all the noise set her on edge. She used to love all the hub of the city. Now, it almost felt like too much. Not to mention, she couldn't help but feel like some people were staring at her. A person with one arm could draw attention that way. It was one of the reasons why she was hesitant on taking Adrien up on his lunch date offer. Eating at her place had been nice, but the idea of sitting at a restaurant was akin to standing in the middle of a stage with the spotlight on you. She sighed as she sank down on a bench. This was pathetic. She used to walk these streets with confidence, with her head held high. Now, she couldn't be anymore different.

Nora skipped along the sidewalk. She had to be careful, for she had a wide to-go box filled with some beignets from the Nevermore Cafe. If anyone bumped into her, her surprise for Ren would be ruined! The redhead felt as if she was like Red Riding Hood with all of these pastries. She waved her free hand to people who were passing by as some powdered sugar trailed behind her from small crevices in the box. Nora loved all of the city from the buildings to the street performers. Even the dark and foreboding alleyways of the Garcon Perdu intrigued her despite there being rumors of supernatural gang activity and some bad memories. Bellerouge was just so filled with life... and death... but in the end, it didn't matter what happened in the past! After putting her change in a saxophone case to support the small jazz band playing on the street, she went on her way. However, something else had caught her attention: a girl around her age sitting on a bench. The woman reminded Nora of her friend Adeline, or at least she thought they were friends. The lines were very blurry when it came to their companionship. The blonde sitting at the bench sighed; this signaled Nora to come over and sit next to her. "Hiya!" Nora placed the box of beignets under the bench.

Yang was so engrossed in her thoughts that she didn't even notice somebody sit next to her. When a chipper voice suddenly sounded though, she gave a startled cry and practically jumped a foot in the air. For a split second, she started to move into a fighting stance, her paranoia kicking in. But when she saw that it was a young woman, and a cheerful looking one at that, she let out a sigh and her adrenaline dropped. Being startled didn't sit well with Yang these days, same with loud noises. Any one of them could make her fight with Thrax flash before her eyes, even for just a second. Luckily, she managed to keep control of herself. It hadn't been the girl's fault. She hadn't known. "Hi," she replied, a little tiredly. It looked like the girl had just come from the Nevermore Coffeehouse. Yang could smell their beignets from a mile away. They were practically her regular whenever she went there.

Nora stared at the other girl who appeared startled by her. It seemed as if she'd seen a ghost. It never really bothered her though, she had gotten that reaction plenty of times from her half-brother. "Sorry, did I scare you?" she piped in her similarly happy tone. "I'm really really really sorry if I did though. I get that from a lot of people. Guess I need work on my personal space, am I right?" Nora chuckled again, knowing that was one of her weakest areas: one of many that stockpiled to the social life of Nora in Bellerouge. "Yeah, so, what's your name? I'm Nora!" The girl stuck out her hand, waiting for a handshake. The smile continued to glow on her face, hoping that the mopey blonde's face would mimic hers. Why did everyone she ended up meeting turn out to be complete grumps. Perhaps Adeline was right. Something must have happened to the town recently to have put people in a funk.

Yang let out a breath. "No, it's fine. I'm just...jumpy." That was putting it lightly, but the woman did seem sorry about it. Yang couldn't blame her. It wasn't her fault that she was always on edge these days. Going through something traumatic did that to a person. The woman introduced herself as Nora and she held out her hand to shake. Yang couldn't help but return her smile, just a little. Her perkiness was a little contagious. And if Yang was looking for anything these days, it was something to make her feel a little less depressed. "I'm Yang. Nice to meet you," she said, shaking her hand with her own. It looked like Nora wasn't fazed by her one arm that much. Or maybe she was just choosing to ignore it. Either way, Yang appreciated it. She was still paranoid about people staring at what was left of her right arm.

Nora shook her hand, but slowly stopped when she noticed something. Yang's right arm was severed, leaving a little bit of her shoulder. As much as she wanted to gawk at the blonde's distinct difference, she couldn't bring herself to ask what had happened. Perhaps she was a veteran of the Black Wars like her father and she didn't want any bad memories to do into each of their heads. There were a few people at her dad's funeral were with missing limbs. "Wow..." her tone was less chipper than before, then she put a comforting hand around Yang's shoulder, "I'm sorry." Nora quickly recoiled and shrunk back to herself, "I shouldn't have asked. But whatever you did... you must have been very brave. Wanna beignet?" She grabbed the box from beneath the seat and put it between them.

Yang noticed where Nora's eyes traveled, and she could tell what she was looking at. Crap, she thought. It looked like the "elephant in the room" that was her arm was subtly being brought up. Nora didn't seem to know how to react. Frankly, Yang wasn't sure either. What was there to say? Talking about how she had fought against a demon to save a kid she used to look after wasn't exactly a great conversation starter. Heck, she wasn't even sure if she could talk about it. Just thinking about it made her queasy. Nora said she was brave. Yang felt like "reckless" might have been more appropriate. She had been stupid, to think she could take on a demon like Thrax by herself. Louie wouldn't had even been out there if it wasn't for her. She couldn't blame anyone about this but herself. However, she knew Nora was just trying to say something encouraging. She gave a nod in return, but was thankful when Nora changed the subject and asked if she wanted a beignet. "Sure. Thanks." She reached for one and bit into it. Some of the powdered sugar fell off like snow and dusted her jeans, but she didn't care. Beignets were her favorite. She swallowed before saying "You sure do have a lot of those. Are you bringing them to some friends or what?"

"Sorry for bringing that up, Yang." Nora looked back and then her eyes traveled downward to the fried dough pastries in the box. Perhaps she could have just one... Ren wouldn't know if she had one from the baker's dozen, right? "Stuff like that is serious and I don't want to depress anyone. I mean, who likes being sad? Well, I don't and I.." the redhead hesitated. Talking about dead dad was as much of a perfect conversation topic as the Black War was to anyone in this city. "Never mind about that. Anyway, about those beignets. They're for my brother at the police department." She took a bite out of the beignet. It was still quite warm from earlier. "He gets off work in about an hour, so I'd might as well surprise him with these!"

"It's fine, don't worry about it," Yang said reassuringly. Nora didn't have to fall over backwards apologizing. What's done was done. Yang wasn't freaking out anymore, Nora said she was sorry. What more was there to say? She had to admit though, the beignet was making her feel a little better. Then again, they usually did. They were her favorite. Nora explained that they were for her brother, who actually worked at the police department. Yang wondered who Nora's brother might be. Had Yang met him before? She had had dealings with the police quite a bit over the years. At first, they were usually after her because she was in an underground fight or stealing something. Now, a good chunk of them were actually helping her. Of course, Shadow and Sunshine had tried to help her even when she did criminal acts every once in a while, but still. She had even become friends with a few more people on the force, like Aqua. "Maybe I've heard of your brother," she said. "I have some friends who are on the Others Unit. What's his name?"
