"It's not that simple, okay? And I'm not some little damsel that needs to be saved from my evil parents or whatever. I can take care of myself just fine. I've been doing it for years." The angry words spilled out in a torrent, and Weiss realized too late how much she sounded like a jerk. She knew Omar was just trying to help, but all these people worrying about her just made her feel worse. She felt like she didn't deserve it. Surely, there were people who were worse off, who needed help more than she did. Why was she so important? Of course, there was also the concern about her shadow spirits. If someone tried to help her and found out she had summoned them, they might freak out. And she had no idea what to do if that happened. She just wanted to be left alone until she could figure out how to deal with them.

"I'm just a guy offering advice" he said with a small shrug. "But if I can offer an observation, it doesn't seem like you're taking care of yourself. It seems like you're settling. If you want to really take care of yourself, fight back against your oppressors and actually take your life into your own hands. You'll be eighteen in a few years, you can do this" he shrugged and turned back to his guitar. "But hey, what do I know? I'm just a punk you met in the park" he spared her a smile. "You got such sad eyes, sad eyes. Wanna tell me what makes em so sad?"

Weiss sighed. In a way, Omar had a point. She was kind of letting herself go. Instead of taking care of herself and getting better, she was only getting worse. And she wasn't trying to make her situation better. But what was the point in trying? Riku had fought back, and it had gotten him disinherited and booted out of the house. And Weiss still had her eyes on being the next voodoo queen, and she figured she might have a better chance if she stayed on parents' good side. Besides, a long legal battle of getting her out of their custody would take forever. Knowing them, they'd probably drag it out as long as possible. They might not give Weiss the loved she needed, but they still wanted her around. With Riku gone, she was the star of the show, and they liked showing her off. "I don't spew my problems to strangers," she replied. Besides, what could Omar to do fix them? It wasn't like her parents were going to listen to him.

"Fair enough. But if you want to rant to someone who has no opinion either way, drop by. I'm usually here afternoons with the weather nice" He looked at her straight in her eyes. "I know how it feels to have every aspect of my life controlled with no way to really fight back" he told her gently. "And it sucks, doesn't it? But you stay where you are because it would be too much trouble fighting, and what would you do without the control?" he shrugged. "Look at me, blowing steam. I'm just the punk in the park, what do I really know?" he chuckled to himself and began softly singing as he strummed.
"Your heart is broken To your surprise You're sick of crying For blue eyes So tired of living Misunderstood Think hard woman I think you should
Come, sorrow is so peculiar It comes in a day, then it'll never leave you You take a pill, wonder if it will fix you They wonder why sorrow has never left you
I'm talkin' bout blue eyes, blue eyes What's the matter, matter Blue eyes, blue eyes What's the matter matter so blind, so blind What's the matter, matter Blue eyes, blue eyes What's the matter with you?
Your heart got broken At the end of the round Won't find your spirit In a lost and found Oh I've been watching How you behave Not much like a lover More like a slave..."
He smiled as he sang. It really reminded him of what he knew of Weiss. But if she'd ask he'd tell her it was about someone he used to know. Really, it was about Omar too. Him and Weiss.

Omar seemed to understand what Weiss was going through, at least somewhat. But control of her own life was what she was after, in a way. Once she was the voodoo queen, she'd be the head honcho for once, and her parents would have to listen to her. It was her end goal, even if it took a backseat sometimes while she was trying to figure out how to solve her shadow spirit problem. Really though, voodoo was what made her feel in control and confident. As long as she was doing that, she felt like she couldn't go wrong. She was quiet as Omar started singing another song, although no doubt he was trying to say something with it. She wondered who used to control his life. Had he had sucky parents like hers? Or was it different? Chains came in different forms, and they didn't always have to be literal.

Omar finished the song and looked up at Weiss. She seemed pretty pensive and quiet, like she was thinking really hard about something. "Weiss" he said gently. "Live your life. Be defiant. Tell your parents what you want. Threaten something they can't afford to lose. Make them listen to you, instead of the other way around. They brought you into this world. But that doesn't mean they own you. You don't have to leave, just remind them who has the most to lose. I guarantee, it isn't you" Weiss's parents were grooming her to take on the family business. They depended on their daughter. It was them who should be listening to her. "Now, back to your party" he said with a smile. "You've almost grown. How do you want to celebrate that? I totally recommend letting down your hair and having a smasher of a party. Invite the well to do sure, but the well to do from each species. That way you're all inclusive and everyone can totally go wild. But that's just me. I'm wild" he smirked. "But in all seriousness, what's your dream party Weiss?"

Weiss bit her lip. Telling her parents what she wanted hadn't exactly worked in the past. With them, it was either their way or the highway. She'd tried to get them and Riku to get along, but instead, they hated each other more than ever. And now, some of their trust in her had been lost thanks to the Thrax incident. Sure, they'd let up a little bit since it had happened more than a month ago, but still. She could feel their eyes on her sometimes, like they were wondering if she'd try another crazy stunt. Omar brought up the subject of her party again, and she did manage a chuckle at his idea of having something a bit wild. She wasn't sure how much fun it would be, but it would at least be different. That was a perk in her book. When Omar asked her what kind of party she'd like to have though, she wasn't exactly sure how to answer. Really, the reason she wasn't interested in her party so much this year was because she was feeling so down. She didn't want to have to sit through a long party and pretend that everything was okay. She wanted to interact with people as little as possible these days because she was tired of acting like she was alright. Telling them wasn't an option, not if she wanted to explain her shadow spirits, so her solution was to just not be around people at all. "I don't know. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn't have one at all. I mean, it's one less time I have to pretend that things are okay and that I don't have this stupid scar on my face."

"If you want someone there who can threaten your parents with getting whacked over the head with an electric guitar I'll do it" He said with a wide grin. "Remember, you hold all the cards, and they don't. They're just trying to make you feel powerless. Put out some of your hand. They still make trouble? Place down your best cards. If they still don't listen, lawyer up and fight them on your terms. You'll be head of your household one day, and they know it. You gotta remember that" He tilted his head at her. "You can't change what happened. If you don't feel like a party don't have one. You don't need to be perfect, human is fine too"

Weiss sighed. She wasn't sure if she had any cards left to play. If she went too far, who knew what her parents might do, especially her father. Her mother was a good example of that. If she went along with what she wanted, she was less likely to get hurt. It was a simple as that, and she wasn't sure if that was something Omar would understand. "Asking a LaFayette not to be perfect is like asking a bird not to fly," she replied sourly. "It's what's expected. I mean, how can we be the leaders of the voodoo community if we're not the best?" Of course, voodoo wasn't the only thing Weiss was expected to be perfect at. Her parents tended to expect it in almost everything she did. It was what came with the family name. They had an image to uphold. She'd been doing it all her life.

She was sighing. He sighed too. "If you can't do anything against them, I understand. I've never been able to take my own advice, why should you have to?" he chuckled and raised an eyebrow. "So you become a puppet? I'm so glad I was never expected to learn how to be the proper little puppet to dance to a tune as bid" he replied sarcastically. "Would it kill you to go against what's expected? Look at me, I play in a rock and roll band and sit in parks talking to heiresses. I'm not a normal troll. Images are meant to change over time. Be your own version of perfect"

Omar was getting frustrated. Weiss could tell. And who wouldn't? Anyone probably would. Nobody understood why she wanted to stay with her parents, why it was the best option for her. She had a real shot of being the voodoo queen if she did. She was bound to be hurt less if she went along with what they said. And if she stayed where she was, nobody would find out about the shadow spirits she had summoned, and think less of her for it. She'd been dealing with this for years. What was a few more? Once she was the voodoo queen, everything would be okay. Thoughts like these ran through her head, but she said none of them out loud. How could Omar possibly begin to understand? "Better to be a puppet than get hurt all the time," she said coldly.

"Oh no, I getcha. Why be beaten when the easiest thing to do is not disobey? Everything goes smooth. You get your hobbies, maybe a few side projects, some idea of what self respect is, and all you have to do is follow orders like a puppet" he said bitterly, more to himself than to her. "And so what if they forbid you from seeing certain people? As long as you're not getting thrown like a rag doll. Who cares how lonely you are or how much you hurt inside. The path of least resistance is easiest to follow because you get the least disappointment. Why even try, am I right?"

"Well, everyone seems to agree that I'm well on my way of following in their footsteps. Maybe that's where I belong," Weiss retorted, her tone angry. Her temper was flaring and she didn't like what Omar was saying. He acted like just getting up and walking away was so simple, but it wasn't. Even if she wanted to, it could take the law years to get her away from her parents. And besides, did she really deserve to be apart from them? Riku seemed to think she was already well on her way to ending up just like them. And she couldn't have been that good of a person if she summoned dark creatures like those shadow spirits. Maybe she really was rotten on the inside. And if she was, maybe she should stay with rotten people.

"But is that what you want?" he shot back. "My own master may control everything I do but that doesn't mean I have to end up just like him. Why do you need to be just like your parents?" He shook his head. "It's not easy being a puppet. I know that. But if that's all you think you can be so be it. But it's never going to get better, ever. Even as an adult they'll find ways to control you, and might even force you to break your own heart. It's not fun. It's lonely. But what can puppets do? Cut the strings and we're lifeless"

"What I want is power. And I'm gonna get it," Weiss replied. "Once I'm the voodoo queen, I'll be in charge. Then, I can do things my own way. But I can't do that if I ended up getting booted out of the family. I stay on my parents' good side, and the position is mine for sure." Omar could understand that much, couldn't he? She was going to break free, in her own way. She just needed some time. "Leaving isn't going to get me what I want. I won't abandon my goal, not when I've been working towards it for so long. I leave it behind now, everything I've done will have been for nothing." She couldn't believe she was spouting all this to Omar, but she wanted him to understand why she was doing this.
