"The only thing dad is interested in a long term relationship is with his guitar." Jane huffed. "But I don't want him to just go with any groupie either."
Her father on a dating site? She was fairly certain he wouldn't like that sort of a nudge. The woman had to be the right fit for him. She only wanted Omar happy. And by extension, she only wanted Yang happy. That guy that Yang admitted to crushing on, might do Yang good, but Jane didn't know him. Therefore, she barely trusted him. Though, she didn't trust many people as it was. She could blame the foster care system for that. How they made it so she could never believe anything any adult said.
"You'd have hated them." she said. "But I would have paid to see you stick it to them!"
Jane had happily shed all of her belongs to the upper 'crust' of society when she left that life behind her.

Yang gave a little laugh. "Remember when I first met you and thought you were a groupie?" she asked. "When Omar said you were his kid, I felt so awkward." Of course, that awkwardness had only lasted for about five seconds. The reunion between Jane and Omar had been cute, to say the least. She was just glad to have helped Omar be a little happier. For as long as she had known him, he had missed the family he had once had. At least he was able to get some of it back. "I think a lot of parents wouldn't approve of me," she said, thinking back to when Adrien had said something along those lines regarding her and his dad. It was sad his mom wasn't around. The way Adrien talked about her, she sounded like such a nice person. And according to him, she would have approved of her.

"How crazy would I have sounded if I said I just came up to you saying I was his long lost daughter?" she laughed. "You'd have decked me!"
That had been an interesting meeting. She hadn't known what to say or do. Because she hadn't known Yang. She had just been using Yang to get to her father. What she hadn't anticipated was having Yang become her best friend. Funny how things work out like that. Still, Jane had to smile a little. She was just so glad that she had met Yang in the first place. And seeing he other woman perking back up, even if just a little, was good. It was a sign she could do some healing, even if later she would take a step back and hurt again.
"Dad likes you. He's a parent. My mom would have liked you. Only the cool parents like you. The lame ones can go stuff themselves."

"True," Yang acknowledged. "That would have sounded a little crazy." A woman claiming she was Omar's long-lost daughter probably would have sounded a bit weird to her. After all, people didn't just up and come back from the dead too much around here. And if they did, well, it was usually for less than good reasons. Magic could do a lot around here, bur bringing someone back to life was tricky. More often than not, you just ended up with a zombie. So, most magic users didn't really mess with it. Phoenixes technically came back, but even they had their limits. Yang's mom was proof of that. "Seems like the lame ones tend to dominate most of this city," Yang said. As far as she knew. Mr. and Mrs. LaFayette were jerks. Their daughter seemed to be a pretty good person, considering she had saved Yang's life, but she wasn't sure if she could say the same for her mom and dad. Adrien's dad was a jerk too. Heck, even Moses's dad was like that. All Yang really knew was that he was where Moses got his demon genes from. She figured that was enough to know what his personality was like.

"I am so glad you didn't think I was nuts!" Jane sighed in relief.
And really, Jane felt she owed Yang for the rest of their lives. Yang had really helped her out, in ways she would never even imagine. Jane looked down to the treats she had brought. The meager offering seemed so inefficient. Weak sauce. She would have to make up for it later. Probably by not sending her father to Yang just yet. She would be overwhelmed by his caring nature and he might coddle her to death. An embarrassing way to go. Give Yang her space, then coddle her back into health.
"We don't have to follow that trend."
Jane and Yang had all the time in the world to turn out to be better adults than the ones they knew (minus her father).

Yang laughed in response as she took a cupcake. She realized she hadn't eaten any since Jane had gotten here. She figured she might as well eat one now, just to show her appreciation. Cupcakes might not seem like much to some people, but really, it was the thought behind them that counted the most. Jane had brought them in an attempt to cheer her up. Yang had to appreciate that. "Mmm, these are good," Yang said after trying a bite. "You gotta have one two though. I can't eat a whole baker's dozen by myself." It was still in Yang's nature to share, a habit that had practically been second nature when she had been looking after her kids. Anytime she got something, she made sure to share it with them. Now, it was just a habit whenever she was around people. Jane seemed pretty confident that they could turn out better than the jerk parents that were in this city. Yang wasn't sure if parenthood was in her future. Sure, she had taken in four kids when living on the streets, but actually having some of her own? That seemed a little daunting. Regardless, if she and Jane could just be better adults in general, that was a pretty good start. "That is true," Yang said as she took a second bite of her cupcake.

"I'll have one but you can eat the rest of them during the week. No one has to know you're living off cupcakes." Jane said with a wink.
She picked one up and took a bite. Her mother's recipe had turned out just as she had hoped. That was a relief. Her foster family frowned upon her doing anything for herself. Cooking. Cleaning. Running her own errands. She fought them tooth and nail on all of those aspects of her life. She made sure everything she did to that family was passive-aggressive. She was just a trophy 'daughter' to them after all. Only to be cleaned up and dusted off for certain occasions. Jane put a stop to those quickly. Formal parties? Sneakers under her dress (one that was horrifically garish). Formal meetings? She'd talk about hunting and gutting her own meat. Meeting important guests? Poor manners, dirty attire and an informal manner of speech.
"Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional." Jane said.
It had been her mantra in that hell hole the system called her foster home.

"If I end up gaining twenty pounds, it's your fault," Yang teased. She probably would, having most of the box to herself. Maybe she could share some with anymore friends when they came over. Heck, Adrien might even appreciate something home-made, especially if it was sweet. Yang was determined to get him to break his healthy diet every so often when he came to visit. Having cheat days was essential, in her opinion. She did have to agree with what Jane said. Just because you were an adult didn't mean that you had to leave every single kid thing behind. Still, Yang had had to do a lot of growing up over the past several months. It was something she had tried to avoid for a long time, but eventually, she had had to do it. Still, it hadn't changed her much. Anything different about her was from what happened with Thrax, not because of her having to grow up. Louie had compared her to Peter Pan in the past, but those days were behind her.

"You could always go for a run." Jane teased. "I hear sit-ups are supposed to be good for you."
Yang keeping active was a good thing. Even if it was from the 'safety' of her own home. As long as she didn't go cabin fever on anyone. But baby steps. Jane wasn't going to force her outside just yet. She grinned over at the young blonde. She would be Yang's work out buddy if she needed one. Granted, Jane liked working out as much as she liked her foster parents. But it would be for a good cause.
"Or next time I'll break a salad." she laughed.

"The only salad I like is taco salad. Everything else is just 'meh,'" Yang said as she finished off her cupcake. "Maybe I'll get around to working out or something. Everyone says it's like the 'cure-all" for depression or whatever. I don't know how running a few miles is supposed to make you feel less sad, but whatever." Yeah, she knew there were chemicals involved and exercise released the happy ones that resided in your brain. But Yang wasn't sure if sit-ups were going to fix what was going on in her head. She felt like it would take a bit more than that. Besides, working out with one arm would take some getting used to. She'd have to figure out what she could and couldn't do.

"I can bring taco salad." Jane laughed. "Exercise and friends! If you need a work out partner, ring me up."
Cure-all for depression? She supposed it was a good thing that Yang was admitting that she had it, but still... To know that Yang's confidence had been shattered that much. It left a bad taste in Jane's mouth and it wasn't from the cupcake. She swallowed, suddenly feeling like the treat was too sweet and too sticky. She set her half eaten pastry down. This was over her head. She knew she had to do something, but she wasn't her dad. That man had an answer for everything. Still, she kept smiling. For Yang's sake.
"I know you'll get a kick laughing at me. I don't run with just anyone you know."

Jane seemed pretty positive that some exercise couldn't hurt, along with some yummy food and hanging out with a friend. Heck, maybe she could do all three in one afternoon. Yang figured it couldn't hurt to try. Besides, it might make everyone feel a little better if she left the house more often. She was still a little reclusive and tended to spend most of her days inside, watching T.V. Any time she had gone outside, it hadn't been for too long. She felt like both her and the city had changed, and she couldn't walk the streets as confidently as she used to. "Maybe I'll do that. Thanks." She gave a little smile.

"Sure. You can call me up whenever."
Casual. Not like Jane was expecting her to call constantly. But she knew about dealing with this sort of stuff. It didn't leave you easily. Or willingly. You had to reach out for help yourself or let it consume you. She knew she could have used someone at three in the morning when she had been younger and woke up because of nightmares or the nights she had insomnia and couldn't sleep. She knew she would have liked to have someone there for her when she she had broken down and had a panic attack. It's why she wanted to help Yang and Namine now. They had both seen some shit.

Yang nodded. "Right." She wondered what on earth she did to deserve a friend like Jane. Sure, some might have said it was because she had helped her find her dad, but Yang was sure she would have found him eventually, even without her help. They had just happened to bump into each other at the right time, really. After that, things had just taken off and the two had bonded. Yang wasn't sure what made Jane stick with her after all this time, but she was glad to have her around nevertheless.

"Great. Now that that's settled. Girls' night in!" She declared.
Jane was prepared to stay as long as Yang would have her. All in the name of cheering her up. She smiled over at the blonde. Glad that the other girl ate something. It was hard these days, seeing everyone so upset and not being able to stop it. The police weren't any help. Where had they been when the prison riots happened? Not there. That's where they had been. They were too busy gallivanting around doing whatever they wanted to prevent this from happening.
