Just because Yang spent most of her time at home nowadays didn't mean she was alone. Sure, she wasn't the social butterfly she used to be, but that didn't stop friends from dropping by every once in a while. Most of the conversations were pleasant, although Yang could see they were still worried about her. So far, it seemed like the only thing that had gotten better was her getting adjusted to one arm. Her nightmares, her tendency to isolate herself, and her mood swings hadn't improved much. Still, her friends were trying to be there for her as much as possible. Yang just hoped she wasn't too much of an inconvenience to them. Jane was supposed to stop by sometime today, and Yang found herself watching the news while she waited. News reports had slowly been getting more positive over the last few weeks, which made Yang a little happy. Even if she wasn't moving on as much as everybody else, at least the city was putting itself back together after what happened.

The night of the prison riots, Jane had been over at Aqua's with Namine. Just having dinner. The faery had returned that night in a hurry before ordering them both to stay inside and dashed off. Jane waited until Namine fell asleep to check the news. She had felt sick. The things that had happened... And Yang. Jane had to wait a full 3 days to hear that Yang had been hurt. It was awful. She felt like such a terrible friend. So she made herself more readily available.
She was carrying a tray of cupcakes. She supposed it was a troll thing. Her dad had shown up to Aqua's with a cake for Namine after what she went through, granted, Namine had the biggest sweet tooth. That might have been a factor. Sweets for good little boys and girls. Except Yang was no child. Jane hoped she would like the pastries anyways. She paused outside of Yang's front door, tried the knob and found it unlocked. It was the first time she had been over to Yang's new place.
"Yang!" she called. "I'm letting myself in!"

Yang glanced up when she heard a voice from outside her door. Sure enough, it was Jane, who was letting herself in. She muted the TV and got up from the couch, her muscles creaking slightly as she did. It tended to happen when she became a couch potato. "Hey Jane," she said with a small smile as her friend entered the house. Hopefully, she wouldn't mind the slightly cluttered look of the place. Some days, Yang had enough energy to clean the entire house. Other days, things tended to pile up. Her doctors just attributed that to any depression she was feeling and assured her she'd get better in due time. In all honesty though, Yang felt like a clean house was the least of her worries. She wanted to get better so she could have a semi-normal life, not so her house could be spotless.

"Hope you don't mind but I brought you some cupcakes." Jane announced.
She set the tray on the kitchen counter. She then turned to look at Yang. She looked like the fire had been sapped right out of her. Jane smiled sadly before pulling Yang in for a hug. If she just kept addressing things as they were and not look at Yang like she was a broken little doll perhaps Yang would get that spark back. She would have to tell her dad to talk to Yang too. Her dad knew how best to give someone a pep talk. Maybe they would even go listen to him play again. Yang liked his music after all.
"It is so good to see you again! We really need to hang out more often." she said.

"Aw, you didn't have to do that," Yang said. Secretly though, she did appreciate it. Her trips to the Nevermore Coffeehouse had dwindled down recently, especially since she wasn't working there right now. Most of the food in her house nowadays tended to consist of frozen meals that only took two minutes to heat up in the microwave. So, any sweet treat was appreciated. She hugged Jane back, noticing her friend was sounding a little peppy today. Yang wasn't sure if that was for her benefit or not. "Good to see you too," she said, smiling in return. Even though she was still hesitant at getting involved in her friends' lives again, just spending some time with them was enough. She figured she couldn't mess things up too much if they just did that.

"Of course I did," Jane dismissed. "They're a house warming present."
Jane smiled at Yang. She slowly broke the hug but lingered and brushed Yang's hair out of her face. She was silently searching for any indication of weariness or distress of any sort. Yang had gone through an ordeal after all. She then gave Yang her space back. The half-troll did miss Yang. But after what happened with Vanitas, Namine needed some help adapting. But now that the blonde was back on her feet, Jane had another blonde who needed her help. Even if it was just distracting Yang from the obvious.
"How's the new place?" she asked. "Do you like it here?"

Yang nodded. "Yeah. Riku did a good job making the place...homey, I guess you could say." Really, he had picked out most of the stuff that lay around the house. Yang hadn't wanted to buy things herself until she had some more money. With her arm gone though, who knew when that would be. Of course, Riku had promised to help her out with expenses until she was mentally stable, and Adrien seemed ready to pay for anything that she asked for. She was accepting of their help, but she hoped she wouldn't have to rely on it forever. Taking care of another person could take a lot out of someone, and Yang didn't want to be a burden to anybody.

"One of those cops huh..." Jane mused.
She shook her head. Her own bias against the BPD and all police officers aside, they had done right and saved her, Namine and now Yang. She supposed they were good at their job some of the time. Still, they should have had more guards around the prison or caught Vanitas sooner. A civilian stepped in to save her on their behalf after all. But she digressed. Yang was safe and sound. That was the most important thing. It would just take her a while to adapt to what had happened to her. Jane knew there was nothing she could have done if she had been there. Thrax still would have hurt Yang and he still would have gotten away, no matter how frustrating that was.
"It's yours now, so you could always change it however you want in the future." she said.

Jane's tone wasn't entirely hostile when mentioning the cops, but it wasn't exactly positive either. Still, Yang had to acknowledge the change from how it used to be. At least she didn't totally despise them anymore. Maybe it was because they had rescued her and Namine from Vanitas? That could be a viable reason. "Are you doing okay? With the whole Vanitas thing?" she asked. Jane didn't seem to be troubled too much by what had happened, although some people were a bit tense since Vanitas had escaped during the prison break. She wondered if Jane was feeling the same. Yang felt that same tension, but honestly, other criminals were more on her mind than Vanitas. Thrax, Cinder and her cronies, even Gothel and Gavin had popped into her mind every once in a while. Sure, they were dead now, but they had still taken her parents away from her. That was enough for them to haunt her nightmares every once in a while.

"Better than the other girl." Jane shrugged. "I'm not going to lie. I'm a little worried. He got out. They finally had him locked away and he escaped. It's... frustrating."
She thought the whole Vanitas situation was taken care of. He was toast. Done for. They had finally locked him away and they threw away the key so that he could rot in prison for the rest of his days for his crimes. That should have been it. The end of the story. Finale. Fin. Even then the slippery devil was able to wriggle out of his little hole and escape. It made Jane want to scream. The police couldn't do anything. Even if she didn't like them, she knew it was suicide for any cop to try and bag him on their own. The guy was a lunatic with nothing to lose. The worst kind of person to go after. He was as dangerous as he was unpredictable.
"And... what about you?"

"Yeah. Looks like he's lying low, though. I haven't heard any reports of him breaking the law again," Yang said. Or maybe he was committing crimes without getting caught. Who knew? Yang sometimes wished she could do something to help, but what could she do? If the police couldn't catch him, did she stand a chance? Besides, her having one arm kind of made her useless when it came to fighting. She'd probably just make things worse for herself. When Jane asked how she was doing, Yang wasn't sure what kind of answer to give. The full truth? A half truth? A flat-out lie? She discarded the last option as soon as it came to mind. Jane didn't deserve that. But Yang didn't want to just dump all her problems on her either. Besides, it wasn't like Jane could do much to fix them. Most of Yang's problems were mental now. "Okay, I guess. I'm getting better at doing things one-handed. Although it's sometimes a pain to brush this out every morning." She gestured to her hair. Even though it was a pain sometimes though, she refused to cut it. She hoped once her left hand was stronger, she could try putting it in a ponytail. There were tons of videos on the Internet explaining how to do it, and if it was one more thing Yang could learn how to do on her own, then she was all for it.

"Yeah. I know. If he's smart, he skipped town."
It was unlikely. The guy was likely territorial. Thought that Bellerouge was his home or something crazy. As if the city wanted a maniac like him running around their streets. If the city was lucky, he would get himself killed or some gang banger would put the demon out of its misery once and for all. After all, a rogue demon like that was no better than a wild dog with rabies. The only way to be merciful was to kill it before it hurt anyone else. At least that was Jane's opinion. She didn't think that a creature like Vanitas would be able to turn himself around like demons like Pitch Black. The police officer was a model for all demons to follow.
"Have you thought about a prosthetic? They're actually pretty high tech these days." Jane said.
It was probably not what Yang wanted to hear. Not this soon after the accident, but if she got back some semblance of normality, it would help her get her life back. Jane was all for that because the last time, Yang was ready to give up on everything. On everyone. It crushed her to see the blonde like that. Not when Yang had been so perky and full of life before.

Yang just nodded, although she wasn't sure if that was what Vanitas would do. Even before he got thrown into prison, he hadn't wanted to leave Bellerouge. He seemed to like it, even though not many people liked him. And those who did were usually scumbags just like he was. Maybe someone was helping him out even now. Who knew? Yang just hoped that no other criminals tried to follow in Thrax's footsteps and imitate his actions. Criminals could be copycats sometimes, and if they tried to stage a jail break like Thrax had, the police could get into some hot water. "A little. They're so expensive though," Yang replied. Sure, she was letting her friends pay for some of her stuff, but a prosthetic seemed like too much to ask. She'd read a little into it though, especially since here in Bellerouge, magic could be used to make them even better than regular ones. Who knew when she'd be ready for one though. If she got one, would people just expect things to go back to normal? She couldn't do that. Just because she would have two arms again didn't mean she would go back to the way she was. It wasn't that simple.

"Yeah... unfortunately. It's just a thought." Jane mused. "I... guess I'm not the best at this. Cheering up stuff... Should have sent dad. He would have been serenading you by now."
Her father knew best what to do with emotional little girls. He had this sort of magic about him that made people want to talk to him. They wanted to talk to him. So he became good at giving advice. Jane always felt like a weight had been taken off her shoulders by talking to her father. But perhaps that was a typical reaction since he was her father. Jane was striving to be like her old man. But it seemed she had come just a little short. Perhaps it was because she was still young and her dad had centuries of experience. That was probably it. He had been around the block so much that literally nothing surprised him anymore.
"Let's sit down, cram our faces with cupcakes and I can order a pizza or take out or something."

Yang gave a little laugh. "That is typical behavior for your dad," she agreed. Omar had always been like that, for as long as Yang had known him. Even if she wouldn't exactly fess up what was bothering her, he usually turned to music to make her feel better. Yang wasn't sure if all the songs in the world could fix what was wrong with her head though. They could cure the symptoms sometimes, but not the actual root of the problem. Nobody could fix that except Yang herself, and she wasn't sure if she could. But, Jane seemed determined to change the subject and move onto happier things, so Yang let the subject drop. "That sounds like a good idea," she said. She headed back to the couch and changed the channel to some random sitcom. She doubted she and Jane would actually pay attention to it, but it was nice background noise at least.
