Pockets in a hat? Well, Elsa had to admit, that was clever. Jacque had fessed up to the crime he was caught red handed with, but that didn't change her annoyance about it. The shopkeeper accepted the money and swiped it away with a huff. The doorknob was officially his. Nerves didn't excuse swiping things off the desk. She folded her hands over one another, refusing to make the matter bigger. He said it himself; there were more peaceful routes of avoiding a problem

Jacque held the doorknob in hands turning over and about. It really was a finely crafted item, and doubted the vendor knew what they had. He knew what followed next: the awkward silence of disappointment; although he wasn't sure of it was because he got caught or because he was stealing in the first place and he's a lawyer. Either way he walked back over to Elsa watching her fold her hands. As far as he could tell she probably wanted to say something about this, but Jacque knew it wouldn't make a the situation better. Jacque continued to follow Elsa saying,"What were you asking me? How is who or what?" Jacque kept a somewhat serious look on his face, and would probably have to bring this up later, along with his police record, but someplace private. He would have to note this down today.

"Oh." The disappointment snapped downward when Jacque came back to her, fiddling with his new doorknob. If all else, failed, at least the doorknob could be useful for some kind of voodoo spell. She had spent enough time with Weiss to know some objects had their interesting uses. "I was going to ask about your father."

Jacque heard her say 'Father', and nearly tripped over himself. He chuckled a bit, and scratched his head with the doorknob a bit. Jacque figured it probably would be beneficial of him to not lie to Elsa. He chuckled a bit, "My Father... funny you should ask..." Jacque hesitated trying to figure out how to explain his current situation. "He was supposed to help me get my own Tarot Deck today actually, but he went to handle some business instead." Jacque put the doorknob under his hat again, and rubbing his eyes again. He was trying not avoid Elsa's gaze, but everything was getting fuzzy again so he mostly tried to focus on her face at this point. "I mean normally he checks on some of the Lesser Voodoo Community too while we're out here, but said he trusts me to do it. I mean it's not that hard right?" Jacque walked a bit slower. "What about your Family? How are they?" Jacque shrunk his smile a bit, worried about the answer, it's not a complete lie, but he knew the full truth, and just wanted some of the pressure off of him for a minute as he stuffed his hands in his pockets.

"Oh. Well...I suppose if the business was that important, that..." Elsa stopped herself. What was she going to say> That business was more important than family? Her father had that philosophy and it had led to a very uncomfortable childhood. Complete that with the disagreement on who she should be defending and why when she chose to go for defending Others against her father's wishes. Speaking of family, Jacque asked how they were, and immediately her spine shot straight up. Her eyes showed the slightest hint of irritation, but it went away when she remembered he was long gone, and she never really talked about her life with him, even in school. "They're dead." She said it bluntly, to say the least.

Jacque walked alongside listening intently, and watching her. He ungloved one hand and stuffed them both back in his pockets, laying the glove across the back of his neck. "No, it's not the importance that mattered. It was just that the business was unexpected, and nobody else could handle it so it's fine, I guess. Besides the Lesser Voodoo Community thinks I'm getting a bit too overly attached to him anyway right now." Jacque took his ungloved hand out of his pocket, and softly tapped her on the shoulder, then flinched at seeing her stiffen up.
"Oh well..." Jacque pondered for a minute, putting a finger to his before sighing "That's good..." He was sufficed to leave it at that for minute, but then realized how it might have sounded. He rubbed his eyes, and head, pulling his hat forward a bit. Maybe Jacque was fine with it because he how he felt about being a pixie never feeling quite accepted anywhere, including his original home with other pixies. "I don't mean it like that! You just never seemed too keen go home during school breaks, and didn't ever seem happy upon returning from home when you did go..." Jacque was never really sure about speaking his mind over being sympathetic. He buried his head in free ungloved hand.

Now the touching was getting awkward. If he did it again, she would freeze his hand. It was one thing to hold gloves, but it was another to have it happen. She whpped around, keeping her braid pinned down by her other hand to avoid hitting him in the face. Her eyes were gleaming with one emtion now. Annoyance.
"This IS my home, Jacque. I never went home to my own house because I wanted to get a leg up on my work. Don't worry; I kept myself entertained. Talked with friends and family over Skype. I wasn't totally isolated. If I never was happy about it, it was because I was too focused to my work. Deep down I was ecstatic to go home, but I knew that work came first."

Jacque continued looking at her face through his fingers, and flinched at the emotion in Elsa's eyes Then took a small step back, he stiffened up as she whipped her head around to face him. Jacque grabbed the brim of his with his ungloved hand listening to her attentively. He did not dare to break eye contact with her, as he nervously made minor adjustments to the his hat. He was trying to be a good friend, but he knew that he it would not happen, at least today since he drank wine. "This IS.... her Home....?" he whispered to himself a bit uneasy at the sound. of it. He had never felt as if he had that, even with Dr. Facilier or the Lesser Voodoo Community. "Bellerouge is your home?" He questioned unsure of the phrase, "I apologize Elsa. I didn't mean to insult you. I just meant that you should still get out a bit more and hang out with friends, and visit every once in a while was all not just Skype." Jacque shifted uneasily in his stance.
Hearing her talk about 'getting ahead in work' started to make him feel bad about how he got through Law School. How he cheated Half the time when his grades were bad. hacking and changing his grades when he failed a class, using his copies to advantage. Jacque's gloved hand went to his vest and as he loosened his tie, and pulled on his vest, slightly grabbing at it. He wanted to avoid talking about working or schooling or anything that he cheated at even if he didn't cheat the last 2 years of school. He wanted to say something about it, but not now. Jacque shook his head. "No, you're right work comes first...."

"Jacque. This is my life. So please...just..." Elsa gripped her hands tightly. Without even thinking it, she brought a hand up and struck him. Hard. Even a trace of frost on her handprint reminded. This was followed by a cold glare at him before she rushed off. ((End thread))
