First day on the job. It was exciting, but also a bit nerve wrecking. After all, he hadn't had his degree for too long, and he was back in the city he ran from a decade ago. So it was perfectly logical and ok for him to be nervous. Craig knew this, reminded himself of it when he dropped Rhona off at school for her own first day, and reminded himself again as he entered into the police building.
He had already been shown where his office was beforehand, when he got the job, and he was fairly certain that a memo was passed around of the new grief counselor. So it'd only be a matter of time before someone came by to greet him, feel the new guy out, or come see him for personal matters they needed to get off their chest. Whatever the reason, the blonde man was confident he could pull through.
And so into his new office he went, before sitting at his desk and taking out a few knick knacks he packed to decorate it with. A picture of him and Rhona was the first to get placed, on the left side facing him but tilted a little so if someone wanted to see they could. It was taken at her tenth birthday, she was wearing her favorite blue dress and had ribbons braided into her hair with cake frosting on her nose. Craig was obviously the culprit as he had a finger pointed out with frosting on it too and the two of them were laughing.
Next, on the right side of the desk, the Selkie placed an old seal bobblehead and tapped its nose before chuckling as its little head bobbed up and down briefly. Next to it he placed a mug with colored pencils and regular pencils and pens filled up inside. Paper and coloring books were quickly placed in the drawer.
Deciding his desk was good enough for now, he went to hang his degree on the wall, the frame simple and the glass clean and clear. The blonde man took a moment to admire it, a sense of pride at all he's overcome and accomplished filling him up, before moving on to hand a couple photos of the beach from the small town he had spent so long in. No one was in those photos, just the sand and the ocean, a few birds in the sky. A couple the skies were gray with clouds, one with the sun shining bright and the sky so blue. And one where it was a strange but lovely mix of the two. Where the sky nearest to the beach was cloudy and gray but off in the horizon there was a patch of sun with blue sky peeking out. Just waiting for the wind to blow the clouds away to it could grow.
Craig loved that photo.
With that task down, Craig placed an old worn but cozy blanket on the little loveseat for whoever came in, help add to the safe and comfortable space he hoped to create for eveyone, and finished his unpacking by placing his guitar in the corner by his desk. That should do it. he thought to himself, before sitting down at his desk and sighing.
He hoped all would go well.
