Shadow pushed open the pink door with some hesitation. The stab to his shoulder from Frollo may have healed, but there was a nasty pulsing that he couldn't ignore. Going back to the hospital while Pitch was resting gave him bad vibes. There was one doctor he trusted, and thankfully, she was a walking distance from his office. A walk distance of at least 350 steps. He massaged his shoulder, and was also aware that this was also a count for his physical if Anna really wanted to play doctor.
"Anna?"

Anna looked up from where she had been examining a tissue sample under a microscope when she heard someone call out her name. Immediately her eyes landed on the figure of Shadow as he pushed open the pink doors to the labs.
"Oh, hi Shadow!"
While her greeting was as peppy and friendly as ever, her expression held the smallest trace of surprise at seeing the homunculus. Ever since he had retuned to the BPD after his disappearance, he hadn't come down to visit her in the labs other then to hear about medical reports on his cases. It made her a bit sad but she also knew that he had gone through some very serious stuff and needed space to deal with it in his own way.
"If you're here to get the low down on Mr. Lafayette, you'll have to come back. The jury is still out on what killed him, although it's looking like a poisoning of somekind."
Anna stood up as she spoke and walked over to her computer where the Chordettes could be heard singing nonstop about lollipops, tapping on the keyboard once to stop the song.

Shadow reclined next to a filing cabinet, trying hard not to think about the throbbing and itching sensation. What exactly did Frollo put on the dagger that made him itch and throb? Acid? Holy water? Considering his heritage, the latter might have been likely. After all, he had been assaulted in a church where the stuff was literally sitting out.
"Hey."
She was typing to the tune of 'Lollipop'. Typical Anna. Her brains was hidden beneath her bubbliness. She was Sunshine 2.0. She mentioned Lafayette, and he remembered Riku and how Sunshine and him had hugged at her birthday. Was there something going on?
But then he remembered Lafayette she was referring to had been George Lafayette. His house had been flooded, and almost everything in his house had been marinating in sludgy water. To call the crime scene disgusting was one thing. The body had been found in his house, and at first, the likely cause of death was drowning. But if this was a BPD case, this was more than Louisiana rainfall.
"...I'm actually not here for that."
He pressed a hand against his shoulder. "After being in the hospital, I don't feel like going there for a physical. I need...someone I can trust to check where Frollo stabbed me. The irritation won't stop."

As Anna turned off her playlist on the computer, Shadow went over to one of the cabinets and leaned against it, offering his own brief hello. She was just looking up from the screen when she noticed his expression change at the name 'Lafayette.' She had a pretty good idea who Shadow was thinking about and it wasn't the body laid out on a cold slab in the next room over, a piece of his tissue still under the microscope. However, she merely bit her lip and didn't say anything about Riku.
When Shadow made it clear he wasn't there to learn about the victim but actually wanted her to look at the old wound Frollo had inflicted upon him, she merely stared. Given how distant he had been of lately, this was the last thing Anna had expected.
"So.... you want me to examine the wound?"
She said it somewhat slowly, almost as if she didn't quite understand what he was saying. She did of course, but it had thrown her off to have him come to her and ask for help. He had just been so distant lately and this request was right out of the blue.

"Better you than someone I don't know."
Shadow said it bluntly. He had enough of people with latex gloves poking and prodding him. Psychologists who said they could find a cure for the recesses of depression that were beginning to show. Speaking of depression, he wanted to check on Yang since they spoke. She was....relatively happy at the birthday get together, which was good, but the vibe of something else going on lingered.

"Oh, um....ok."
Anna blinked a few times before motioning for Shadow to come and take a seat at one of the chairs situated in the lab. She was still somewhat nonplussed as she pulled off her old latex gloves and quickly washed her hands before putting a new pair on. Despite not being a certified doctor, people seemed to keep coming to her for medical treatment. First Riku and now Shadow.
If this keeps up, I should just go back to school and become a doctor after all.
The somewhat bemused thought passed across her mind as she picked out the tools she could use on a living body out of the ones reserved for the dead and wheeled the assortment over on a tray. However, as she pushed the tray next to Shadow her eyes landed on an empty syringe and her mind wandered back to the blood samples of Others she had locked away in the next room over.
And as her thoughts went to her experiment, an idea began to slowly form.
"I gotta admit, I'm surprised you came down here to see me. I mean, we talked some at Sunshine's birthday party but other then that...."

Anna gestures for Shadow to take a seat in one of the local places situated. Some chairs had been scuttled in a crazy manner, like there was a haphazard meeting taking place. He adjusted one of the chairs and spun around, massasing the area. The tenderness pulsed up and down with each little pinprick he applied to it. But if anyone could figure out what was up, it was Anna.
"Well, and I missed having someone to talk to about cinnamon buns. Now that Sunshine and Riku are spending more time together."

"Yeah, those two seem pretty happy together."
And even though she had other things building in the back of her mind, Anna raised her eyebrows meaningfully as she spoke. It might have seemed just like an offhand statement from Shadow, yet she could sense there was a lot more behind it then just simply conversation. If the homunculus wanted to talk about Sunshine and Riku's relationship, here was his chance.
As she waited for him to speak, she stepped up to the side of his body where he had been stabbed and held out her hands expectantly.
"Arm, please!"

"..."
Shadow bit back whatever retort he had. Acting bitter about this was going to make the whole thing something out of a high school drama. Besides, he knew that Sunshine was a human being and not some property If she wanted to make decisions about her life, he wasn't going to stop her. It had only been one day, after all. Besides, they seemed to have bonded while he was on a 'devil-run' rampage and Aqua was on faery errands; they had to team up with someone.
He massaged the tender section of his shoulder balde, looking at her confused. Arm? It wasn't the arm that needed testing. It was the damn injury where he was stabbed with...come to think of it, even he didn't know what had gotten him. But, he did what he was told, anyways.

Anna didn't miss the somewhat tense silence that followed her statement, but knew Shadow enough to not pester him about it. And besides, she thought that his silence was revealing enough about how he felt with Sunshine and Riku getting together.
When she asked for his arm, he shot her a somewhat puzzled look but she merely smiled and waited until he held out the limb. She gently cupped his arm in her hand, feeling his fur even through the gloves as she began to slowly rotate the limb around, a small frown on her face as she observed his shoulder joint.
"Tell me if and where any of these motions hurt, ok?"
As she continued to move his arm around in a slow and methodical way, she continued to speak as if they were siting at a table drinking coffee.
"Seems like a lot of stuff has changed recently not just in the department but in Bellerouge in general. Guess that means my horoscope was right."

Shadow tried not to wince as Anna massaged up and down. He had been a bit tender, makybe because he never really allowed people to touch him. Sh eworked up and then towards the pain. As she got to where the nerve of his shoulder blade, which was impressed she avoided the pointed quill located there, he winced outwardly.
"There it is," he answered through gritted teeth.
He tried to fight the searing pain. But it was not working. Because whatever happy thoughts he originally had were all twisted from the events of the past and the present. Not even the emotions Sunshine had when she opened the emerald bracelets helped. He just forced himself to think of conversations to have. It was the only way to ignore the pain.
"Exactly who does your horoscope?"

"Oh, I just get it from the Bellerouge Times. They post a weekly horoscope and this time around mine seemed pretty accurate. 'Be prepared for many changes not only in your personal life but also in the place where you live. Many of these changes will be difficult and you will lose someone close to you as a friend, but your strength of spirit will see you through to better times.'"
She said all this as she examined his arm and when Shadow gritted his teeth as she touched a place where the humerus met the shoulder, she didn't even need to hear him speak to know this was the source of his pain.
"Hmmm, I'm gonna have to examine this more closely to see what kind of damage we're looking at. Do you think you can manage me touching it or do you need something for the pain?"
She paused with one hand still resting on Shadow, waiting for his verdict.

"Just so long as you don't poke me into a spike-ball."
That was all Shadow to muster without saying something mean. The truth was, no matter what Anna was looking at, it was going to hurt. A lot. How long had he been walking around with something stuck in his shoulder for so long? Besides, he had other ways of escaping to not think about the pain. That being trying to piece memories gift-wrapped for him. He had to find out which ones were fake and which ones were real.

"You know Shadow, you don't have to pretend to feel nothing around me. I know you better then that."
The words were meant to be teasing, but at the same time there was a seriousness to them as Anna looked steadily at the homunculus. And there was more then one meaning to her statement. Her blue eyes looked into his red gaze for a few seconds that seemed to stretch longer then they really were.
However, eventually she turned her attention back to his shoulder and began to press into the muscles that joined his arm to his shoulder. It was a firm and steady pressure she applied, the frown back on her face and her tongue sticking out ever so slightly as she felt the muscle and bone under the fur, searching for any irregularities.
She continued examining his shoulder for nearly five minutes in utter silence before suddenly releasing his arm and making a small sound in the back of her throat.
"Yep, looks like its the acromion and glenoid cavity of your shoulder. You've got bone bruising on both AND subluxation of the humerus from the scalpula. How in the name of all things sweet and sugary have you been walking around with this, Shadow?"

Blue and red eyes locked solidly for about a minute. It was rare that Anna was able to get a serious point across, at least when it came to Shadow's well-being, but somehow she was able to let him know she wasn't going to take any bullshit.
"It's been..."
How long had it been since the the crazy incident. All of the sudden, his entire face froze into an ezpression of shock and pain. How come he didn't feel the pressure in his head until now? It didn't hurt when Anna was checking him earlier, and even a few minutes ago when she was examining what had happened to find it out it was a bruised bone. The pain was forcing him into a crouched position, massaging his temples, trying to force the pain out.
"...Frollo...some kind of letter opener...Mardi Gras..."
He was spitting out the memory as he was recalling it. That was why his head hurt. Somehow the repressed memories were literally forcing themselves into his mind.
