Sunshine's smile was pretty much unbreakable at this point. After Riku had spent his first night as a human with her in his place, it made her realize that maybe, just maybe, the relationship was beyond a 'crush' level. Which was why on their day off, she asked if they could do something together. Riku had suggested the pottery painting seminar at Magnolia Road. She had rushed to the road the minute she finished her breakfast, and was waiting by the paint station, carrying a basket filled with gluten-free pita crisps, grapes, berries, and a bottle of wine. A lot of other couples had followed suit in this, and she figured it would be a cute way of following the crowd without being show-offy.

Riku was practically walking on air. His first date date with Sunshine was in a few minutes and he was super excited. He'd at first thought it might be weird between them after he'd spent the night at her place-and the kiss- but things had carried on like normal until she had invited him to go to a pottery painting place with her. He'd been delighted at the opportunity to spend more time with her and so now he was on his way. Completely enjoying the fact that he was human again. He got there and found her waiting already. He grinned at her. "Hey Sun" he wanted to say he was really, really glad she had invited him, but wasn't sure if that came across as desperate.

The funny thing was, having spent so much case time with him as a rabbit, Sunshine didn't recognize Riku. That, and it didn't help the first time he came after the transformation he wasn't exactly in an okay mindset. Her lips still kind of tingled remembering the kiss, too. At least she had brushed her teeth that time. After adjusting to the improved Riku, she beamed up at him, gesturing to the open seat. "Hey, Riku. I saved you a spot," she gestured to the two chairs next to a paint smeared table. Two small ceramic pieces sat upright, stark white. Nothing a little creativity wouldn't fix.

She seemed to look past him for a second, before focusing and beaming up at him. Her smile made his heart flutter. "Thanks, Sun" he sat down across from her, taking in her look and the basket next to her on the table. Knowing Sunshine, there were bound to be plenty of goodies in there. He smiled at the little piece across from him. It was a rabbit in a suit and hat. Adorable. "I love painting figurines" he told her a little sheepishly. "I paint all my living dolls myself"

Sunshine's heart began beating quickly. Oh, what was she going to say now? She had just pulled the rabbit piece out without thinking. Hers was in the same vein of difficulty in painting, albeit a different figure. Hers had been a cat in what she assumed was dapper attire. Not as elegant as the bunny's suit and tie, but she was sure in some time period waistcoats were still a thing. Riku mentioned painting living dolls, and this led to a big question. "How long does it take for them to, you know, come alive?"

"Hm?" he put down the figurine and shrugged. "The bigger they are the longer. But some of them have to be specific type of ash to be turned into clay to do anything. Bone clay is in very high demand, I'm lucky I still have a stash from when I was still not disinherited. It was easier to get it then. But let's see...six inch ones take six to twelve hours, anything larger takes from a few days to a few weeks. Then you have to paint them, clothe them, they refuse to do anything without proper clothes. It's a pride thing, I think. Anyway. Once you do all that you give them their main command. Be a servant, be a bait, be a portal to the realms of the spirits, be guards, that sort of thing"

Sunshine nodded wordlessly. Voodoo was one of those things that both fascinated her but at the same time, it terrified her. Bringing something inanimate to life was something out of a dark kid's book. Six to twelve hours or not, the frustration of waiting for something for that long baffled her, She could barely handle waiting for a rosewater baklava to finish baking, which in itself took almost an hour; counting boiling that syrup. "Have they ever objected to what you made them wear?" she asked half-jokingly, half-seriously.

He gave a half-smile. "Not really, They prefer wearing clothes to match their purpose, so I always clothe them based on what I intend to use them for before I give them their purpose, to avoid disagreements" If he needed to he'd just change their clothes, it was simple. "My dolls are mostly for servants, or mediums to the Other Side. So they wear fancy clothes. I think the dolls like being servants, actually. It keeps them busy and in constant use"

Servant. The word usually had some kind of negative connotation. Sunshine dipped her brush into a blob of red, swirling it get the right amount. She was starting to feel like that the more she remembered the family he came from. True, he didn't care about his roots, but the small little insecurity was taking root. In the department, and in her family, she at least felt wanted.

Riku looked at Sunshine apprehensively. She suddenly looked down about something. What had he said? "Sunshine are you okay? I'm...I'm sorry for whatever I said" he said nervously. The last thing he wanted to do was ruin their date. "I just...I really enjoy being with you, okay? And I don't care what people say. Scandal never mattered to me, you know"

"Huh?" Sunshine snapped out of the weird fog. Her paint brush slid up, making it look like the cat's face had a nasty scar. She winced at the image. One would think seeing bodies mauled to death by creatures of darkness wouldn't phase her. But somehow it did. "It's not that, I was, just, lost in thought." She covered up the scar with some yellow, mixing it until it turned orange

Riku frowned but began painting his own little figurine, making the top hat a light lavender with a blue sash. "Was it a good lost in thought, or a bad lost in thought?" The last thing he wanted was her doubting his sincerity or something. He very, very much cared for her, enough to go to her house when he needed help and especially enough to kiss her. He hoped she understood that.

"Um...well...a mix of the two, I guess." At least Sunshine was being honest about that. Her hand shook a little, making the steady lines becoming a but more scrubby. If she kept it in for too long, this would not be her best painting. That and her second date would be absolutely terrible. She didn't count the impromptu sleepover as one. So, she set the brush down, looking at him with sincerity. "I was really worried about you that night, and, well, kind of still am. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad youre okay, but just...you looked so torn apart."

Riku put down his paintbrush and looked away. "Aqua's master plan for getting me back human was to get me so pissed off I'd cry and revert back, because angry tears were the key. She even invited my sister over without telling me to try to get us to argue that hard" Riku wiped away more tears threatening to fall and shook his head. "And the things Aqua said....I don't know if they were true or not but they hurt and I can't look at her I'm still so mad"

Sunshine's hand faltered. The magnum opus for getting Riku back to normal...was angry tears. But to what extremes? By forcing him to look and listen at things that had hurt. Her lips thinned. Sure, Aqua meant well, but to go and hurt her partner like she did...no wonder there was an awkward air around the two of them. Shadow would never do anything like that to her; he'd rather jump off a bridge than do that. She leaned over and hugged him, Like that'd do against mental pain. But it as the onyl thing Sunshine could think of.
