Riku hugged Sunshine tightly, relishing the comfort that a simple hug brought. He kind of wished he could switch partners with Shadow. But he wouldn't break the dream team up at all. He already felt he was stepping on toes with dating Sunshine, he could feel Shadow's glare of disapproval every time Riku looked at Sunshine. Riku let go of Sunshine and scrubbed at his eyes with the heels of his hands. He picked up his brush once more and smiled at her.

All Sunshine thought of at the moment, as weird as it would sound for a bit, was the smell she got from hugging Riku. Honestly, a lot of it came from all the times she spent baking and could tell when something was undercooked or overcooked. Her boyfriend....that sounded so weird, thinking it....had scents of old fashioned tea; chamomile, vanilla, and honey. She'd have to remember it. The hug ended at the perfect time; where the silent message of comfort got across and the timing wasn't so long it would become an awkward PDA. Sh epicked up her own brush and covered up the paint damage. "Un...that helped, I guess?"

He picked up his own brush. "Yea, that helped" he confirmed. It didn't magically make everything better but it helped. He was immensely grateful to Sunshine for everything she did. She was one of the sweetest people he had ever met, and she didn't care about his money or former status. He adored that. "You're a great help, Sun"

Sunshine's face turned bright pink. A hug helped? At least she wasn't digging through her pockets for money for therapy that would do absolutely nothing. The damage from her smear was now covered, and she frowned, trying to decide; purple or blue for the suit? Well, at least she could clean off the brush while thinking. "...So..." wow. After he had poured his emotions out to her, literally, what could she spark to a conversation?

Riku smiled at Sunshine. She was certainly cute when she was embarrassed. Of course, she was cute all the time. But he really liked when her face turned pink, it was utterly adorable. He began painting his bunny again, going for a light brown for the fur and a pale shell pink for the nose. He looked up at Sunshine. "So...?" he prompted with a faint smile.

Sunshine cracked a grin. Good God, why was his smile cute, too? That was probably the first thing she had liked about him. That wide, white smile he would flash. He had done it when she was getting coffee for herself and Shadow investigating an assignment, and had no idea who he was until it came back to her. "So...what other voodoo tricks are useful? Those walking dolls must be convenient when it comes to chores."

He paused and shrugged. "Depends what you want done" he said carefully. "Voodoo can be used for all sorts of things, good and bad. From love potions to death spells, from good luck charms to bad luck charms. Explosive powders to making zombies" he raised a finger. "We're not nearly as powerful as say a sorcerer, but we do run this town on magic. So there's that"

"Question; have you ever tried to use a charm or a potion to impress someone?" Sunshine's curiosity was sincerly piqued by this point. The things Riku had been talking about were the kinds of magic that was romanticized in storybooks. The potions that made people fall head over heels, the wards that could be hung to scare away ghosts...had she not been on any of the force and seen the dangerous truth of some of these charms, she would have dismissed it

He shook his head. "Honestly? No. But I played around with much darker things when I was younger..." he paused and his look got dark before he shook his head and smiled. "I'm into non-harmful or manipulative magics now though, because I don't want to lose friendships or trust or my life. Messing around with Voodoo can cost your life or your soul, see"

That look didn't go past her radar. She had seen dark; her police partner had been created from darkness. Well intended or not, that origin still didn't go past the radar. She'd ask questions about it in another place or another time. Out in the open was not the best idea. The little figure was, without voodoo, getting livelier. The waistcoat was bright red, and she was mixing gray for the suit. "Next thing we know, we'll have these things running around the office filing our paperwork," she joked.

He laughed at the joke. "If you want, I can make you some to make it easier" He offered. They settled into a comfortable silence as they painted, Riku thinking how lucky he was to have found someone who understood him so well. He could only hope to return the favor to her sometime. She deserved a good man and he still wasn't sure if that was him. After a little while his stomach growled and he turned pink. "So...what did you bring to eat?" he asked, eyeing the picnic basket beside them. He didn't want to come off as rude, he was just hungry.

Sunshine laughed, continuing to hear the voice. The laughter died down and that just left them in silence for a while. Now, it wasn't one of those uncomfotable silences that said something wasn't right. No, this was one of those silences where just being in the presence with someone you liked was there. She lifted her brushed and studied the lines where the suit showed seams. Would there be pinstripes? A cool zipper? She wasn't sure. As she was deciding on the decoration, Riku asked what was in the basket. She lifted the flaps, revealing her wares. "I notice the cupcakes you brought to my party were gluten free, so I took the hint and provided a...healthier alternative. I know, grapes with wine is a bit redundant, but," She twisted her wine opener, naturally bedazzled, and popped the lid off, allowing the fruity scent of the red blend to waft over.

He smiled. "If you have cheese, grapes and cheese are my favorite snack. Er..not that I'm saying you have to have cheese. Grapes by themselves are really good too ,and it's not redundant to have wine and grapes. The French have wine, grapes and cheese with apple slices at parties all the time. Totally alright to do" He smiled. "I was diagnosed with celiac when I was six. It explained why I got hives every time I ate bread. Now it's just a habit to bring gluten free things over, since I'm usually the only one with gluten allergies. Your family has a great gluten free carrot cake, by the way. I...ate it a lot when I was a bunny"

She looked into the box. Hmm, now where coud...ah, there were the cheese wedges. "Ah. Here we go. Easy for dipping and spreading," she cheered, popping out one of the small wrapped triangles. She peeled back the red tab, letting the cheese glisten in the Louisiana sun. Okay, it wasn't the fancy cheese he had at parties, but it was the thought that counted. She swirled a grape around, curious about the taste...and boo, the sweetness-tartness of the fruit combined with the richer notes of the cheese was...amazing. No wonder he liked it. "Wow. How come I never tried this earlier?" She was chewing rather unladylike, and swallowed. Good thing too, because she erupted into loud, exhuberant laughter at his confession of taking the carrot cake while stuck as a bunny. It was a joke she would have made herself.

"You should try hard cheese with apple wedges too" He advised with a smile. "But yea, you see why I like it so much. It's healthy and delicious. Pair that with wine and gluten free bread and you have a simple meal" He had this for lunch a lot when he was studying at home, or in the middle of a spell and couldn't get something more hearty for lunch or dinner. It was cheap, simple and great tasting. Perfect. He didn't mind her unladylike chewing and laughed along with her. "I really craved carrots and lettuce" he confessed. "I think it was a side effect of being a rabbit"
