Anna hadn't realized she had let the melancholy look creep across her face and blinked in surprise when Namine asked if she was ok. She opened her mouth, ready to say she was fine and avoid an unhappy conversation, but suddenly Pascal gave a little chirping squeak. She looked down at the chameleon she recognized the look he was giving her. He knew she was going to lie about how she felt and he didn't want her to.
After a moment of looking down at the little reptile, she let out a sigh. Pascal wasn't even a human and yet he knew she wasn't happy. Maybe it would be good to talk to someone...
She let out a sigh before speaking again, her voice strangely soft.
"Not so much..... no."

"I-Is... there something I can do?" Namine asked. "W-What's wrong?"
Even Pascal knew something was wrong. It wasn't much in the means of backup but if Anna's pet knew something was up, then there had to be something really bothering the usually perky woman. She swallowed a little nervously. If Anna didn't want to talk, Namine would be too afraid to make her. She was only getting used to the fact it was 'okay' for her to voice her own feelings without any retribution for them not being what other people wanted to hear. But if Omar and Jane could take care of her, if Adeline and Ralph could offer her advice, surely, Namien could do the same?

"No, nothing you can really do. It's just..."
Here Anna paused a began to chew on her lower lip, a sure sign that she was unset about something but having difficulties talking about it. However, Pascal walked over the table to where her hands rested and gave them a little push. It was clear he wanted her to keep talking even if it wasn't easy. Anna gave a weak smile to the chameleon and lifted a single finger to pet him with. After a moment she continued.
"I had a big fight with some people I thought were my friends. I was working on a project.... a goal of mine, really, and they didn't like it. They thought it was a bad idea..."
Anna knew she wasn't being completely honest, but she also knew she wasn't lying to Namine about what had happened between her, Axel and Shadow. She was merely withholding some information. Almost without thinking, she paused in petting Pascal to rub at the inside of her arm where she had shot herself with the serum.

"D-Did they say why?" Namine asked.
It was hard to believe anyone could disagree with Anna. She was such a nice person. Not to mention she was always full of good ideas. Anna was as good as they came. Maybe they just didn't see the project the same way as Anna did. Or they didn't know the science behind the project. Namine didn't understand science aside from anatomy. She knew mathematical figures and shapes but those were things she needed for her art. She left things like that to people who understood them better - like Anna. Though, she supposed broadening her horizons wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Maybe she should pick up a book to better understand Anna's field better too.

Here Anna paused. She wasn't so out of it or in such an emotional wreck that she was going to blab about her experiment. Even now it could get her in a lot of trouble if the wrong people found out and while Namine was a nice enough person, she wasn't certain she might not let something slip by accident. She was such a timid person after all, she imagined it wouldn't take too much pressure for her to crack.
"Dunno. Guess they just thought it was a bad idea..."
She dropped her eyes to her drink. She didn't like lying even if it was just keeping pieces of information back. To cover up the silence that followed, she took a few sips from her coffee before picking up Pascal and placing the little lizard on her shoulder in his usual place.

Namine frowned. That seemed like a weird reason to pick a fight. The project was Anna's to do with as she pleased and it wasn't like it was hurting anyone. Anna wasn't like Vanitas or someone mean and dangerous. She wouldn't do anything that was bad. Anna took her job seriously. She cared about what she did. But she also didn't want to believe they were past being friends just because of a fight. A little fight seemed like a silly reason to hate someone. She knew about hatred. She had wanted to hate her father, wanted to hate Vanitas, but she didn't. Not really.
"W-Well, maybe th-they'll change their minds?" Namine offered.

Suddenly Anna let out a bray of laughter. Several people in the bookstore looked up in annoyance or surprise and she quickly put a hand over her mouth, stifling the sound. However, despite the laughter the sound had carried a bitter quality to it that didn't suit the young medical examiner at all. And the look on her face was the same.
"I doubt it, Namine. In fact, I think things between us are pretty much over and done with."
Here her saddened expression turned into a deep frown. It was clear she was angry but she didn't say anymore on the topic.

Namine flinched at the sudden laugh. It wasn't funny. She hadn't tried to be funny. And giving up just because of a disagreement wasn't right. If they were friends, surely they could talk this out. Anna didn't seem to think so. Namine's confidence wavered and she sank in her seat a little. Her bravery faltered. She knew Omar or Jane would have pushed, asked Anna more questions, even if she looked angry, but Namine was too afraid to. She wasn't very good at comforting someone when they were upset, she decided.
"I-I'm sorry." she said quickly.

Namine didn't say anything for a time and Anna merely rubbed at the middle of her forehead. It felt as though she might have a headache coming on and that was really the last thing she wanted. Still, it could be worse.
"Why are you apologizing? You didn't do anything wrong?"

Another apology almost slipped past her lips again but she managed to hold it back. She clasped her hands in her lap. She didn't know how to make things better for Anna. She wasn't good at pep talks. Her emotional support levels were laughable. She couldn't even magically make things better. It could help make things simpler but not entirely better. Not with only the simple spells she knew. Aqua would get mad if she even found out Namine had considered magic. Namine didn't know anything magical to repair something as complicated as friendship.
"A-Are y-you sure you c-can't talk to them?" she asked.
Did Anna even want to give up on her friendship with the other people? She took a deep breath, still nervous, still afraid she was blundering her way through this. Maybe talking too much about it was upsetting Anna when all she needed to do was to think on it on her own.

"No!"
She almost yelled this out and felt a suddenly spike of anger. However, a moment later she blinked in surprised. Now where had THAT come from? She frowned and rubbed her head slightly. Yes, there was definitely a headache coming on but she was still taken aback somewhat by how she had snapped at Namine. Even Pascal gave her a startled look from where he sat on her shoulder.
"Sorry, Namine. I'm not upset at you asking or anything, it's just a... sensitive topic, you know? And I really don't think it would be good for any of us if we tried to talk about it, at least right now."

Namine flinched - an automatic reaction of hers to yelling. Because where there was yelling, other things often followed. Her eyes had gone wide and her breath had stopped short in her throat, making camp and leaving her with a minor shake. For a few seconds she sat still, as if waiting for Anna to lash out - like Vanitas had. But she didn't. Namine tried to relax. This was Anna - her coworker - Anna wouldn't hurt her, right? An uncomfortable smile lined her lips. It was just anger, she told herself. Anna was just upset about how things turned out and was very emotional about them. Because an argument - she dare not use the word fight - was never good.
"R-Right," she managed to squeak out. "I-I um, I..."

Anna could see that her snappish response had hurt Namine and it only made her feel bad. She let out a sigh before trying to find a way to change the topic back to something safe, something that wouldn't upset either of them. All the while she continued to rub at the space just above her forehead.
"Namine, you wouldn't happen to have some aspirin on you, would you? I'm starting to get a bit of a headache and I don't think it's doing my mood any favors."

Namine bit her lip before digging through her basket. She normally brought the basket to the market place, simply because it was easier carrying things in it than in a purse. Especially if she picked up fruits or vegetables. She found a small pill bottle and held it out to Anna. Maybe it would help Anna not be so upset. Namine could only hope. She took a deep breath, to calm her nerves and gave Anna a tentative smile. As much as situations like this made her want to run, she knew she had to learn how to cope with these things. Just because someone got mad didn't mean that she had to run away and hide like some little child.
"H-Here?" she offered.

"Thanks, Namine."
Anna gratefully took the pill bottle from the young blonde, shaking out two aspirins and tossing them into her mouth before chasing them down with a sip of her coffee. She then handed the bottle back to the sketch artist, hoping that the medication would kick in quickly and kill the headache.
"I don't normally get headaches like this, otherwise I'd carried something on me. Guess the stress is getting to me a little bit."
She tried to return the smile Namine gave her and managed a tired grin. It wasn't much like her usual sunny beams but it was better then nothing.
