A quiet laugh came out of Shadow's chest, both at the hunter comment and being a friend of Jane's father. Not a lot of people actually got him to do this, just the quiet chuckle. Hunters often came into the department because of their good marksmanship. Some had a good attitude about it like Jane, while others...well, the license to shoot got abused quickly and they were thrown out of the force.
"You're pretty good yourself. We need more young ladies who focus more on survival and less on fashion departments. You killed, what, three pythons AND shot Killer Croc without flinching? That takes guts."
He stepped back to let her hog tie their catch. This would make the drag easier, not just in weight distribution, but hinder quick runnings. He could see how Jane got some of Omar's protectiveness.
"Yeah. Your dad's a good man. That and, well, having a common taste in music helps."

"Not really. I've been wildlife hunting since I was allowed to shoot a gun." she said. "Wild game tastes better than what you get in store."
She wasn't going to eat the snakes though. Bigger bounty if she brought in the bodies. Plus snake wasn't very good. She enjoyed peasant or duck better. Rooster was her favorite. Her father said it was because trolls hated hearing them crow and she could take a little vindictive pleasure out of eating the bird. She had alligator when she could get her hands on it, though judging by Croc, she wasn't going to get that any time soon. He might have eaten half of the population alone. He was a very big guy. She straightened up and stretched when she finished tying off their catch. A part of her wanted to ask his weight simply because it was a hunter's bragging right over how big their 'kill' was.
"Uh, yeah, I guess?"
She didn't know how to act around this man. A friend of her father's who was a cop? It was weird.

"What's your favorite?" Shadow asked. "Uh, hunt wise I mean."
He understood why Jane was feeling awkward. Having someone from a Unit you didn't care for be friends with your father? Yeah, he'd feel strange, too. Talking about hunting was something he never would bring up. Mostly because, well, he didn't try it for himself. The closest he got was for cleaning the streets.

"Fowl." she said. "They taste good and it's harder to get a good kill on a smaller target. Do... you hunt?"
She didn't know what to make of Shadow. He didn't seem to turn down her help earlier. And he was a friend of her dad's though a cop. So that would take some getting used to. But he hadn't lectured her on proper gun use or asked to see her hunting license even though she had one. He wasn't making a big deal out of her helping him catch a criminal/wannabe crocodile either. Also weird. The whole day was weird. Here she was hoping just to get some hunting urges out of the way. She did but this was odd, even in her book.

"Not counting people and monsters giving innocent citizens hell? No."
Well, that was the truth. Hearing it out loud sounded weird. To the people of Bellerouge, Shadow and his squad were the monsters. Them taking out vampires and demons every other Wednesday was just a scary movie to them. Besides, Jane saw his lack of hunting experience first hand. He looked over at her truck. So she wasn't a ranger, just someone shooting for food or venting purposes. But, having back up was, he hated to admit it, worth it. Sunshine was making sympathy calls while he did the heavy work.
"I won't keep you if you need to get some more in..."

"You're joking, right?" she laughed. "I think I've had my fill for the day. Besides, we just bagged the biggest croc in the bayou."
And this was. She was tired. She had been calling it quits before Killer Croc and Shadow threw a wrench in that plan. Croc might have been a manic killer, but he was still semi-game. Jane would take this as a victory. Still, this was enough excitement for the day. Next on her list was to go home and get something to eat. Something non-crocodilian. A pizza would work just fine. Maybe a beer. It was one of those sort of days. Full of excitement and well, energy. This had been a lot of fun oddly enough.
"So, listen, do you need help hauling him somewhere? I can tow him in the truck..." she offered.
She might not have liked cops, but she would have been croc food if she didn't know that he was out there. The least she could do was offer Shadow a free tow back into town or wherever this trap of his was.

Shadow chuckled. Well, shooting a giant monster did take a lot of the adrenaline out. Hunting one was a bit different than looking for fowl or whatever else was needed.
"Fair enough."
Jane offered to help out again. This time by driving Croc to Shadow's trap on the other side of the bayou. He looked at the tied up Killer Croc, and then at the bed of the truck. This behemoth would probably break the car. Shadow could carry the beast by himself, but the risk of the injured shoulder reminded him of how much he'd be exerting
"Can your truck carry 580 pounds?" he asked

"Yeah, it's a tough truck. Besides, most trucks made these days can haul at least a ton." she said.
She did use the money she took from her foster parents to make sure she had a good car for herself, something sturdy and tough but still maintainable. The trouble would be getting him into the back of the truck. They could always lay down a skid and roll him onto that and drag it from behind. Or just drag him by his tail. Jane wasn't picky. If he was a people killer the least he deserved was to get knocked around a bit. Though, dragging him by his tail down the road would be amusing.

"I'll run behind." Shadow nodded. "Don't worry, these," he gestured to his jet skates, "let me go at quick speeds. Plus, I can sedate him again if anything funny happens, which I doubt will, but, better to be safe."
A big truck bed and a way back to the bayou. The best part was the trap was waiting perfectly. If anything fell in, Croc would have a light snack.
"The other perk of being a homunculus," he heaved Croc up. The weight was anit more than his liking, so he could only carry him by the rope, "stronger than most."

"Well, throw him in the truck bed and we can get going." she said.
She headed around to the driver's side of the car. She was sure that anything that Shadow could handle loading the trunk. He pythons were in a box anyways, not taking up much space. She could already imagine telling her dad about this. 'Oh hey dad, how was your day? I helped catch a serial killer in the bayou. I know! Terrible place to hide out. Pass the syrup.' It would go over so well. But she sighed once she got to the front of the truck.
"And you can sit shot gun if you want. I don't know where you want to go unless you show me." she said.

Shadow nodded wordless. Croc was out like a brunt lamp, which was both good and bad. Good because the chances of him escaping or falling out of the truck were close to nill. Bad because with each breath and slouching, he was getting trickier to carry, even with the hogtie. He was sure he looked ridiculous toting the repitlian backpack until he flung the beast into Jane's truck, and he stretched to get all his joints back into proper working.
"How about I lead you?" Shadow suggested. "Like I said, faster than I look." And it would avoid the awkwardness of having a cop in her car.

"Suit yourself." she shrugged.
She had offered. Tried to play nice. So she got into the truck and put her gun away safely on the gun rack behind her seat. She gave a careful look to her newest passenger before she turned the truck on. She was ready and waiting for Shadow to lead her... wherever it was they were going. She assumed a prison where this big fellow would be locked away for eternity. Hopefully. No more prison busts. Namine's little heart wouldn't be able to take it if her father 'almost' got out again.

(just going to time skip) Six leagues later, the trap was perfectly in sight. The metal cage, complete with an electric-shock door if Killer Croc tried anything funny, was waiting. The path had been, surprisingly, smooth. Or at least Shadow chose the path he knew the truck couldn't handle without buckling. He checked the doors for any critters that could have gone in. The only creature he had to shoo out was a squirrel, leaving the grate available for only one individual.
He went to the back of the truck and hauled Croc out. He was still out cold. Good. He was pretty sure Jane would find humor in him dragging a huge monster to a large cage, and well, it would be worth a paycheck in the end. As he settled the criminal in and bolted the door, he dusted his hands.
"Just so you know," he said, "I don't say this to a lot of people, but...thank you. For both keeping me on my toes and getting Croc in here."

Jane put the car in park when they reached the large cage. She watched as Shadow checked over the cage before hauling Croc out - like a sack of flour before tossing him in gracelessly. She smiled. It was pretty funny to see the criminal treated like yesterday's garbage. Not to mention, Shadow was deceptively strong for his smaller stature. But her smile quickly faded and she folded her arms across her chest. Everyone knew how she felt about the police. She hadn't exactly been quiet about it. She had to set the record straight.
"Listen, I don't like cops, but I'm not heartless. I could't leave you out here alone to face him."

"Your father was about as vocal about it as you are now," Shadow muttered dryly. "Look, I get why you don't like cops, and I'm sorry some asshole decided to abuse his authority and rip you two apart, but you don't have to put a cold shoulder to every one of us."
The Others Unit, his unit, already suffered enough hatred because they were different. In Louisiana, commuting a hate crime against the police was illegal, but that didn't stop the hatred from working into the unit's cases. The Grey Dawn had been proof of it. But boring Jane with obvious stuff when, like she said she had a heart, would be pointless
